This paper analyses a deterministic scheduling problem concerned with manufacturing two types of components at a pre-assembly stage which consists of two independent feeding machines each producing its own type of component. Each type represents a unique component which may have variations in its size or quality. Therefore, the completion time of each component depends on both its type and quality (size) variations. Such manufactured components are subsequently assembled into various component dependent products. The problem has the objective measure of minimizing the total weighted completion time of a finite number of jobs(products) where the completion time of each job is measured by the latest completion time of its two components at the pre-assembly stage. The problem is shown to be NP-complete in the strong sense. A WSPT rule coupled with a machine-aggregation idea is developed for good heuristics which show the error bound of 2.
In tins paper, the method of analysis of induction heating is proposed. It's a coupled problem. First, eddy current problem with current source is analyzed using 2-D finite element method, from which eddy current distribution is obtained. And the second, heat source can be calculated directly by the eddy current. Also the temperature distribution is obtained using 2-D finite element method. Eddy current problem and heat transfer problem are dealt with under steady state in this paper.

In this paper, the forced vibration problem of an Euler-Bernoulli beam that is joined with a semi-infinite field of a compressible fluid is considered as a boundary value problem (BVP). This BVP includes two partial differential equations (PDE) and some boundary conditions (BC), which are introduced comprehensively. After that, the closed-form solution of this fluid-structure interaction problem is obtained in the frequency domain. Some mathematical techniques are utilized, and two unknown functions of the BVP, including the beam displacement at each section and the fluid dynamic pressure at all points, are attained. These functions are expressed as an infinite series and evaluated quantitatively for a real example in the results section. In addition, finite element analysis is carried out for comparison.

Single-phase full-bridge inverters have shoot-through problems. Dead time is an essential way of solving these issues, but it distorts the output voltage and current. Dual-buck inverters are designed to eliminate the abovementioned problems. However, these inverters result in switching power loss and electromagnetic interference due to the diode reverse-recovery problem. Previous studies have suggested reducing the switching power loss from diode reverse-recovery, but their proposed methods have complex circuit configurations and high system costs. To alleviate the switching power loss from diode reverse-recovery, the current work proposes a dual-buck inverter with a coupled inductor. In the structure of the proposed inverter, the current flowing into the original diode is divided into a new diode. Therefore, the switching power loss is reduced, and the efficiency of the proposed inverter is improved. Simulation waveforms and experimental results for a 1.0 kW prototype inverter are discussed to verify the performance of the proposed inverter.

A coupled variational equation for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems is derived from a steady state Navier-Stokes equation for incompressible Newtonian fluid and an equilibrium equation for geometrically nonlinear structures. For a fully coupled FSI formulation, between fluid and structures, a traction continuity condition is considered at interfaces where a no-slip condition is imposed. Under total Lagrange formulation in the structural domain, finite rotations are well described by using the second Piola-Kirchhoff stress and Green-Lagrange strain tensors. An adjoint shape design sensitivity analysis (DSA) method based on material derivative approach is applied to the FSI problem to develop a shape design optimization method. Demonstrating some numerical examples, the accuracy and efficiency of the developed DSA method is verified in comparison with finite difference sensitivity. Also, for the FSI problems, a shape design optimization is performed to obtain a maximal stiffness structure satisfying an allowable volume constraint.

This paper is concerned with the application of perturbation method to the dynamic analysis of floating flexible body. In dealing with the dynamics of free-floating body, the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are analyzed separately. However, the rigid-body motions cause vibrations and elastic vibrations also affect rigid-body motions in turn, which indicates that the rigid-body motions and elastic vibrations are coupled in nature. The resulting equations of motion are hybrid and nonlinear. We can discretize the equations of motion by means of admissible functions but still we have to cope with nonlinear equations. In the previous paper, we proposed the use of perturbation method to the coupled equations of motion and derived zero-order and first-order equations of motion. The derivation process was lengthy and tedious. Hence, in this paper, we propose a new approach to the same problem by applying the perturbation method to the Lagrange's equations, thus providing a systematic approach to the addressed problem. Theoretical derivations show the efficacy of the proposed method.

Graphene is a carbon based material and it has intriguing features, such as phenomenally strong, thin, flexible, transparent and conductive, those make it attractive for a broad range of applications.Unfortunately, graphene is extremely sensitive to contamination. When we fabricate graphene devices, electrical properties of graphene are altered [1], and the charge carrier mobility drops accordingly by orders of magnitude. This significant impact on electron mobility occurs because any surrounding medium could act as a dominant source of extrinsic scattering, which effectively reduces the mean free path of carriers [2,3]. The dominant contaminant is generated through fabrication stage by polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) [4], or photo resist (PR). Surface contamination by these residues has long been a critical problem in probing graphene's intrinsic properties. If we clearly solve this problem, we can get highly performed graphene devices. Here, we will report on graphene cleaning process by Induced Coupled Plasma (ICP). We demonstrated how much decomposition of residue impact on improving electrical properties of graphene.

In this paper, optimal tuning of a cross-coupled controller linked with the feedforward controller and the disturbance observer is studied to improve contouring and tracking accuracy as well as robustness against disturbance. Previously developed integrated design and optimal tuning methods are applied for developing the robust tuning method. Strict mathematical modeling of the multivariable system is formulated as a state-space equation. Identification processes of the servomechanism are conducted for mechanical servo models. An optimal tuning problem to minimize both the contour error and settling time is formulated as a nonlinear constrained optimization problem including the relevant controller parameters of the servo control system. Constraints such as relative stability, robust stability and overshoot, etc. are considered for the optimization. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed optimal tuning procedure, linear and circular motion experiments are performed on the xy-table. Experimental results confirm the control performance and robustness despite the variation of parameters of the mechanical subsystems.
A coupled method, that combines the Ritz method and the finite element (FE) method, is proposed to solve the vibration problem of rectangular thin and thick plates with general boundary conditions. The eigenvalue partial differential equation(s) of the plate is (are) first reduced to a set of eigenvalue ordinary differential equations by the application of the Ritz method. The resulting eigenvalue differential equations are then reduced to an eigenvalue algebraic equation system using the finite element method. The natural boundary conditions of the plate problem including the free edge and free corner boundary conditions are also implemented in a simple and accurate manner. Various boundary conditions including simply supported, clamped and free boundary conditions are considered. Comparisons with existing numerical and analytical solutions show that the proposed mixed method can produce highly accurate results for the problems considered using a small number of Ritz terms and finite elements. The proposed mixed Ritz-FE formulation is also compared with the mixed FE-Ritz formulation which has been recently proposed by the present author and his co-author. It is found that the proposed mixed Ritz-FE formulation is more efficient than the mixed FE-Ritz formulation for free vibration analysis of rectangular plates with Levy-type boundary conditions.
Most electrical machines like motor, generator and transformer are symmetric in terms of magnetic field distribution and mechanical structure. In order to analyze these problems effectively, many coupling techniques have been introduced. This paper deals with a coupling scheme for open boundary problem of symmetric and periodic structure. It couples an analytical solution of Fourier series expansion with the standard finite element method. The analytical solution is derived for the magnetic field in the outside of the boundary, and the finite element method is for the magnetic field in the inside with source current and magnetic materials. The main advantage of the proposed method is that it retains sparsity and symmetry of system matrix like the standard FEM and it can also be easily applied to symmetric and periodic problems. Also, unknowns of finite elements at the boundary are coupled with Fourier series coefficients. The boundary conditions are used to derive a coupled system equation expressed in matrix form. The proposed algorithm is validated using a test model of a bush bar for the power supply. And the each result is compared with analytical solution respectively.
