  • Analytical threshold voltage model of small size ion-implanted MOSFET's is proposed. Yau's model which is only applicable to MOSFET's with constant doping concentration was modified to handle the MOSFET's with nonuniform channel doping concentration and bird's beak, whereby the short and narrow-channel effect was quantitively described. Threshold voltage model for short-channel MOSFET's was derived by approximating the SUPREM result of channel impurity profile to a 2-step profile, and the narrow width be-haviour was successfully described using thr'weighting factor'to accommodate the doping profile in the bird's beak region.

  • In this paper, when the pulses propagate on a uniform microstrip line, the distortion of pulse signal caused by dispersion is investigated in time domain. We analyzed dispersion characteristics according to dielectric constant and structure of transmission line, and compared propagating characteristics for square and gaussian pulse according to pulse width, pulse amplitude, and propagation velocity. The results of this paper are compatible to the trade-off determination of relative permittivity, substrate height, strip width and pulse width of signal pulse when a design of MIC and MMIC is necessary.

  • This study was conducted to develop a speed control system of a DC motor which drove a barley seeder mounted on a combine harvester. Barley seeder mounted on a combine has been known to reduce labor and cost of barley cultivation. However, development of the seeder has been unsuccessful because the combine, a dedicated rice and barley harvester has not enough space and proper power take-off for barley seeder. To develop a barley seeder, small powered motor speed controller was required. A proximity sensor for detecting working speed of the combine and a programmable one board microprocessor was used to develope a control system. Motor parameters and motor constant, relationship between seeding rate, motor speed, groove volumes of a tested roller, torque were measured. The proximity sensor sent a frequency signal to the microprocessor. In laboratory experiments, the excitation voltage of the motor was shown not to be proportional to the size of pulse width (duty ratio). A table transforming frequency signal, that represented for working speed to proper pulse width was developed from seeding rate experiments. However, seeding rate at low frequency signal was not proportional to the working speed. Seeding rate control proportional to the frequency signal was achieved by shifting of the frequency signal.

  • Characteristics of DBD(Dielectric Barrier Discharge) plasma actuator as design parameters were investigated for plasma flow control. Flow velocity and power consumption of the DBD plasma actuator were measured according to the design parameters such as discharge voltage and frequency, gap, width and length of electrode, and the thickness of dielectric barrier. The flow velocity and power consumption increased as the discharge voltage and frequency increased. As the electrode gap increased, the flow velocity increased with decreasing the power consumption, whereas high voltage was required for the plasma discharge. The flow velocity increased as the upper-electrode width decreased, and as the lower-electrode width increased at the constant power consumption. The performance of the DBD plasma actuator can be estimated at the given discharge and geometry conditions.

  • Thermoplastic microfluidic devices are used in BioMEMS for medical and biotechnology applications, such as gene extraction, DNA analysis, and virus detection. In this research, a simple fabrication protocol with a commercially available pneumatic hot press is proposed and demonstrated for polycarbonate microfluidic devices. Microfluidic channels with a width of 200 ㎛ and a height of 10 ㎛ were designed and machined onto a brass plate as a mold insert using a CNC milling machine. The resulting microfluidic channels on the mold insert were assessed and found to have an actual width of 198 ㎛ and a height of 10 ± 0.25 ㎛. The microfluidic channels were replicated on a polycarbonate sheet using the proposed replication technique at 146℃ for 20 minutes under a constant load of 2400 kgf. The devices were then naturally cooled to 100℃ while maintaining the same pressure. It was found that the microchannels were successfully replicated in the polycarbonate, with a width of 198 ㎛ and a height of 10.07 ㎛. The proposed replication technique thus offers the rapid mass production of high-quality microfluidic devices at a low cost with a process that, unlike conventional photolithography systems, does not require expensive equipment.

  • This paper investigates the influence of the Circulating Water Channel (CWC) side wall and support struts on the hydrodynamic coefficient prediction for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) experiments. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method has been used to model the CWC tests. The hydrodynamic coefficients estimated by CFD are compared with the prediction of experiments to verify the accuracy of simulations. In order to study the effect of side wall on the hydrodynamic characteristics of the AUV in full scale captive model tests, this paper uses the CWC non-dimensional width parameters to quantify the correlation between the CWC width and hydrodynamic coefficients of the chosen model. The result shows that the hydrodynamic coefficients tend to be constant with the CWC width parameters increasing. Moreover, the side wall has a greater effect than the struts.

  • This study was carried out to obtain basic information on racking resistance of shear walls and the factors affecting racking resistance of shear walls. Shear walls constructed by larch lumber nominal 50 mm × 100 mm framing and various sheathing materials were tested by applying monotonic and cyclic load functions. Shear walls with various stud spacing such as 305 mm, 406 mm, and 610 mm were tested under both of monotonic and cyclic loads and shear walls with various aspect (height-width) ratios were tested under cyclic load functions. The effect of hold-down connectors in shear walls was also tested under cyclic load functions. Racking resistance of shear walls has very close linear relation with stud spacing and width of shear walls. The ultimate racking strength of shear walls was reached at around or before the displacement of 20 mm. It was proposed in this study that the minimum racking strength and minimum width for shear wall be 500 kgf and 900 mm, respectively. Load-displacement curves obtained by racking tests under monotonic load functions can be represented by three straight line segments. Under cyclic load functions, envelope curves can be divided into three sections that can be represented by straight lines and the third section showed almost constant or decreasing slope.

  • Measurements of interface states in a MOS capacitor by DLTS system using wideband monophase lock-in amplifier are discussed. A new signal analysis method that takes into account the bias pulse width and the gate off width is presented to remove the errors in the measured parameters of interface states resulting from the traditional method which neglects the effect of those widths. Theoretical calculations are made for the parameters related to the rate window, signal to noise ratio, and the energy resolution. On the grounds of this discussion, interface states of the MOS capacitor on p-type substrate of (110) orentation are measured with the optimal gate-off width with respect to the S/N ratio and the energy resolution. The results are interface state density of the order of 10**10 (cm-\ulcornereV**-1) to 10**11 (cm-\ulcornereV**-1) in the energy range of Ev+0.15(dV) to Ev+0.5(eV), and constant capture cross section of the order of 10**-16 (cm\ulcorner.
