  • This paper describes the characteristic and effectiveness of combined GIL transmission line through lightning surge analysis. In addition the XLPE cable is analyzed in the same condition to compare with GIL. Lighting surge analysis is carried out by EMTP/ATP-Draw to obtain overvoltage of GIL and XLPE cable at service-point and load-out area of underground line. Propagation velocity is calculated in combined transmission lines with GIL and XLPE cable. The overvoltage is also analyzed on GIL and XLPE cable with or without arrester operation. The Analysis results show that overvoltage of GIL is occurred higher than XLPE cable at the same condition. Therefore it is evaluated that the application of GIL at the field should be considered cautiously when more detailed transient analysis, another electrical testes and economic evaluations are implemented.

  • Optimum design of the tooth surface for the reduction of transmission error is very difficult to determine analytically due to nonlinearity of transmission error under the several load condition. The design of tooth surface that can give a low noise under the various load condition is very important. Therefore, this study proposes the method to determine the optimal lead curve and robust design of the tooth surface by using the response surface method. To do so, the design variables are selected by a screening experiment. Then the fitted regression model Is built with the check of the usefulness of the model. The model with constraints is solved to obtain the optimum values for the lead curve and the robust design fur the tooth surface.

  • In this study, we set a boundary value problem (BVP) consisting of a discrete Sturm-Liouville equation with transmission condition and boundary conditions depending on generalized eigenvalue parameter. Discussing the Jost and scattering solutions of this BVP, we present scattering function and find some properties of this function. Furthermore, we obtain resolvent operator, continuous and discrete spectrum of this problem and we give an valuable asymptotic equation to get the properties of eigenvalues. Finally, we give an example to compare our results with other studies.

  • As competition is introduced in the electricity supply industry, congestion becomes a more important issue. Congestion in a transmission network occurs due to an operating condition that causes limit violations on the transmission capacities. Congestion leads to inefficient use of the system, or causes additional costs (Congestion cost). One way to reduce this inefficiency or congestion cost is to control the transmission flow through the installation of UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller). This paper also deals with an optimal siting of the UPFC for reducing congestion cost by using shadow prices. A performance index for an optimal siting is defined as a combination of line flow sensitivities and shadow prices. The proposed algorithm is applied to the sample system with a condition, which is concerning the quadratic cost functions. Test results show that the siting of the UPFC is optimal to minimize the congestion cost by the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a packet scheduling algorithm for cellular relay networks by considering relay selection, variation of channel quality, and packet delay. In the networks, mobile users are equipped with not only cellular but also user relaying radio interfaces, where base station exploits adaptive high speed downlink channel. Our proposed algorithm selects a user with good cellular channel condition as a relay station for other users with bad cellular channel condition but can get access to relay link with good quality. This can achieve flexible packet scheduling by adjusting transmission rates of cellular link. Packets are scheduled for transmission depending on scheduling indexes which are calculated based on user's achieved transmission rate, packet utility, and proportional fairness of their throughput. The performance results obtained by using computer simulation show that the proposed scheduling algorithm is able to achieve high network capacity, low packet loss, and good fairness in terms of received throughput of mobile users.

  • Packet loss, jitter, and delay in the Internet are caused mainly by the shortage of network bandwidth. It is due to queuing and routing process in the intermediate nodes of the packet network. In the Internet whose bandwidth is changing very rapidly in time depending on the number of users and data traffic, controlling the peak transmission bit-rate of a VoIP. system depending on the channel condition could be very helpful for making use of the available network bandwidth. Adapting packet size to the channel condition can reduce packet loss to improve the speech quality. It has been shown in [1] that a VoIP system with an AMR speech codec provides better speech quality than VoIP systems with fixed rate speech codecs. With the adaptive codec mode assignment. algorithm proposed in [1], in this paper, we performed the voice transmission experiments using the wireless LAN through the real Internet environment. Experimental results are analyzed and discussed with our findings.

  • DCF(Distributed Coordination Function) defined in IEEE 802.11 provides two different modes, namely, a 2-way handshake and a 4-way handshake according to the transmission procedure. If secondary transmission would not cause a collision with primary transmission, there is no need to postpone transmission unnecessarily. We study a feasible condition which can transmit data concurrently and propose a concurrent transmission scheme.

  • Recently the increasing numbers of cars and traffic jamming makes air pollution condition more severely. Especially high-density population area, in most big cities like Bejing and Seoul, can lead to lung illness and other diseases. In this study to decrease this kind of air pollution condition, a method of air pollution information transmission is proposed. For the transmission of air pollution and traffic control data, international standard technology, the TPEG is applied.

  • Cyclic prefix (CP) is one of the most important technique to OFDM system and is reducing inter-symbol interference (ISI) effects in high speed wireless mobile communication system. At the time varying channel condition, however, fixed CP length is not only increasing power consumption but also reducing data transmission rate. So in this paper, we propose the system that has adaptive CP length for high speed data transmission system. We don't control CP length of every symbol but adjust symbol interval depending on channel condition to CP reconstruction.

  • Leakage and Bragg condition of optical waveguides with blazed grating profile are evaluated in detail by using novel and rigorous modal transmission-line theory (MTLT) based on eigenvalue problem. The blazed waveguides classified as symmetric, sawtooth and asymmetric gratings occur leaky-wave stop-band at Bragg conditions and anomalies based on Rayleigh condition near Bragg conditions. Furthermore, DFB properties of blazed waveguides at Bragg conditions are analyzed by applying longitudinal equivalent transmission-line with characteristic impedance of periodic grating. The numerical results show that the reflected power of DFB waveguides is maximized at Bragg conditions in which leaky-wave stop-bands occur.
