Evaluation on the Mechanical Performance of Low-Quality Recycled Aggregate Through Interface Enhancement Between Cement Matrix and Coarse Aggregate by Surface Modification Technology

  • In this study, a quantitative review was performed on the mechanical performance, permeation resistance of concrete, and durability of surface-modified coarse aggregates (SMCA) produced using low-quality recycled coarse aggregates, the surface of which was modified using a fine inorganic powder. The shear bond strength was first measured experimentally and the interface between the SMCA and the cement matrix was observed with field-emission scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that a reinforcement of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ), a weak part of the concrete, by coating the surface of the original coarse aggregate with surface-modification material, can help suppress the occurrence of microcracks and improve the mechanical performance of the aggregate. Also, the use of low-quality recycled coarse aggregates, the surfaces of which were modified using inorganic materials, resulted in improved strength, permeability, and durability of concrete. These results are thought to be due to the enhanced adhesion between the recycled coarse aggregates and the cement matrix, which resulted from the improved ITZ in the interface between a coarse aggregate and the cement matrix.

  • This study is analyzed the effects of the number of use of aluminum form surface coating material on surface quality of concrete. The results can be summarized as follows. Surface roughness showed larger values with increase in the number of use. Values were larger in UP and AL compared to PE. While found to have bad influence on concrete surface quality, PA and W showed most excellent values for roughness. The number of surface pores increased with increasing number of use, and the number of pores on concrete surface was reduced by applying a remover. In terms of type of surface coating material, PA and W showed smallest number of pores in comparison to PE. In order to comprehensively improve surface quality of concrete, parallel use of PA coating material and remover is deemed most appropriate.

  • 부존자원의 대량소비로 인해 자원고갈 문제와 이에 따라 발생하는 폐기물처리 문제가 대두되고 있는 가운데 두 가지 문제를 동시에 해결하기 위해 현재의 사회구조를 자원소비형에서 자인순환형으로 변화하기 위할 노력이 진행되고 있다. 이런 노력의 일환으로 국내 발생 폐기물 중 가장 높은 비중을 차지하고 있는 건설폐기물에 관심이 급증하고 있지만 종합적인 처리에 대한 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 건설폐기물의 가장 많은 단일 물질인 폐콘크리트의 자원순환을 위한 고품질 순환골재 생산 공정 연구를 진행하였다. 굵은 골재, 잔골재, 시멘트 등이 수화물의 형태로 결합되어 있는 폐콘크리트를 가열전처리 방법과 Autogenous mill을 이용한 단체분리를 통해 고품질의 콘크리트용 순환 굵은 골재를 회수하였으며, 파분쇄 후 생산된 폐콘크리트 미분은 sink/float 분리를 통한 비중분리 특성을 파악한 후 간섭침강분리를 통해 정제과정을 거쳐 고품질의 콘크리트용 순환 잔골재를 생산하였다. 따라서 본 연구를 통해 전체 건설폐기물 중 가장 높은 비중을 차지하는 폐콘크리트를 고품질 순환골재로 재활용 할 수 있는 자원순환형 처리 공정을 개발하였다.

부순모래의 입형이 콘크리트의 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Grain Shape of Crushed Sand on Concrete Qualities)

  • 최근 암석을 깨어 제조한 부순모래의 사용량이 꾸준히 증가되어 전체 잔골재 사용량의 20%에 가깝게 사용되고 있고, 향후에도 부순모래의 사용량은 계속 증가할 것으로 판단된다. 그러나 부순모래 생산 시 품질에 대한 인식 부족 등으로 KS F 2527 기준을 만족하지 않은 부순모래가 콘크리트 제조 시 사용되는 것으로 조사되고 있으나, 이런 부순모래가 콘크리트에 미치는 영향에 대해 체계적으로 검토한 연구가 거의 없는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 부순모래의 입형이 콘크리트 품질에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석함으로써 부수모래를 콘크리트에 활용할 수 있는 자료를 제시하고자 한다. 현재 KS F 2527의 기준인 입자모양 판정 실적률 53% 부순모래를 사용한 콘크리트는 시공성, 공기연행성 및 내구성 등에서 문제가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 부순모래를 사용한 콘크리트의 품질을 향상시키기 위해 특히 고강도 콘크리트에서 입자모양 판정 실적률은 현행 KS 기준인 53%에서 55%으로 조절해야 할 것으로 분석되었다.

  • The Tunnel Form(T/F) system instead of traditional euro form has been tried to reduce construction duration and to improve concrete quality in reinforced concrete wall type apartment construction. To find the relationship for concrete compressive strength between cylinder mold and slab, the different curing locations of concrete cylinder mold in the room have been investigated. The test results showed that the compressive strength of the cylinder concrete with middle-upper location in the room was most near concrete compression strength with respect to slab concrete strength.

  • In this research by examining the influence that low quality aggregate has on the strength of concrete through testing, the lowering of strength according to use of low quality coarse aggregate was reviewed. The results showed that when using low quality coarse aggregate, due to the quality of aggregate a high volume of units was required, and this caused the compression strength to be lowered. In conclusion it was confirmed that if the low quality aggregate was used as is without mix correction this would lead to faulty construction and if the aggregate was corrected to about 60 kg/m3 mix correction, this would lead to an economically infeasible concrete mix.

  • This paper investigated the possibility of quality restoration of deteriorated concrete caused by long distance delivery using chemical admixtures such as superplasticizer. AE agent and retarding agent. According to test results, long distance delivery lead to reducing fluidity and air content markedly, while setting time accelerated. Quality restoration agent(QRA) was made by combining super- plasticizer. AE agent and retarding agent with the proportion of 1:0.0025:0.1. It was confirmed that deteriorated concrete achieved quality restoration with the level of target slump, air content and setting time without strength loss when using QRA with proper amount.

  • In this study, the quality of recycled aggregate for concrete was investigated as the number of recycled aggregate crushing cycles, grinder and crusher, peeling and crushing. First, the quality of density, absorption ratio and solid content was improved as the separation distance decreased and the number of crushing increased, depending on the number of crushing of recycled aggregate and the distance between mantle and cone cave. The quality of density, absorption ratio and solid content was improved as the wire mesh used in striking plate and the number of hammers increased, depending on the type of striking plate and the number of hammers.

  • Recently, the use of lightweight concrete in architectural structures are increasing. It is considered important to control the quality of lightweight concrete. The purpose of this study is to find mechanical properties of lightweight concrete using the expanded clay. Thus, slump, air content, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, length change ratio, unitweight change ratio and absorption of lightweight concrete have been investigated. As a result, it was shown that proper expanded clay replaced by coarse aggregate in concrete was considered as a good replacement of lightweight concrete.

  • The purpose of this study is recycling of ready mixed concrete sludge as artificial aggregate by product technique of artificial aggregate in the normal temerature. For the qulity test of artificial aggregate using ready mixed concrete sludge, it is tested in the various aspect. Therefor, Quality of artificil aggregate is suitable as coarse aggregate except absoption, abrasion. For the application of aggregate in cement concrete, Coarse aggregate are replaced with artificial aggregate using ready mixed concrete sludge 100% of volume. The results of test shown that the artificial aggregate using ready mixed concrete sludge could be used replacement of coarse aggregate in cement concrete.
