Numerical Simulation of Mixing and Combustion in a Normal Injection of the Scramjet (초음속 연소기에서의 혼합과 연소현상에 관한 수치해석)

  • The flowfield of transverse jet in a supersonic air stream subjected to shock wave turbulent boundary layer interactions is simulated numerically by Generalized Taylor Galerkin(GTG) finite element methods. Effects of turbulence are taken into account with a two-equation $(k-\varepsilon)$ model with a compressibility correction. Injection pressures and slot widths are varied in the present study. Pressure, separation extents, and penetration heights are compared with experimental data. Favorable comparisons with experimental measurements are demonstrated.

  • 본 논문은 2차원 해면효과의 수치계산 결과를 정리하였다. 지면으로부터의 높이변화에 따른 점성유동장을 계산하기 위하여 지배방정식으로는 비압축성 RANS방정식을, 시간에 대하여 서는 음해법으로 프로그램을 구성하였다. 압력항은 가상압축성을 도입 4차 수치확산항을 추가하는 것에 의해 계산하였으며, 높은 레이놀즈수에서의 효과적인 계산을 위해 Baldwin-Lomax 난류 모델을 도입하였다. 해면효과가 없는 무한유중에서의 NACA-0012단면 계산결과를 실험데이터와 비교하는 것에 의해 프로그램의 타당성을 확인하였다. NACA-6409와 두께비 $4.6\%$의 날개에 대하여 해면효과를 고려한 계산을 수행하였다. 높이의 변화에 따라 계산된 무차원계수, 압력 및 속도분포는 해면효과의 특성을 잘 보여주고 있다.

  • Objective of the present study is to examine the convergence characteristics of the various multi-stage Runge-Kutta methods in solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations of a time-marching from casted by the artificial compressibility method. Convergence characteristics are examined over 2-stage, 4-stage and hybrid type (using 4-, 3-, 2-stages sequentially) Runge-Kutta methods for a laminar lid-driven cavity flow, and also for a turbulent bump channel flow using Chien's low-Reynolds number turbulence model. Efforts are made to establish a stable and fast convergent multi-stage Runge-Kutta method with minimal artificial dissipations.

  • In order to construct the farm road in Shi-Hwa project, coarse soils excavated from hillsides have been used as road materials for reclamation. Suitable borrow pits available in land are now limited and also they bring about environmental problems when soils are excavated at the borrow pits and transported to the site. When using fine and wet materials as fill, however, many engineering problems can be encountered. Usually, the materials have high water contents, low strength, and high compressibility. In order to use them, we need research that can improve the inherent properties of those materials. In order to tackle with the problems, researches on soil improvement involve mixing lime geo-cement to the fine wet soils. A lab model test is necessary to verify effectiveness and comparison of those techniques. A field test is also required to show applicability and to find problems that may exist in the design and construction stages.

  • In resin infusion process(RIP), the fiber and the resin are in contact with each other for an impregnation step and often results in flow-induced defects such as poor fiber wetting and void formation. Resin flow characteristics in transverse direction and process modeling for woven fabric were studied, and the process modeling was applied to the manufacturing of hybrid composite materials. This study also considered the compressibility of woven fabrics in a series of compression force, and it was fitted well to an elastic model equation. Void formation was varied with the processing conditions in the stage of manufacturing composites using RIP. It was concluded from this study that proper combination of pressure build-up and dynamic heating condition makes important factor for flow-induced composite processing.

Effect of suction on volume change and shear behaviour of an overconsolidated unsaturated silty soil

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the effect of suction on compressibility and shear behaviour of unsaturated silty soil under various types of loading. A series of laboratory experiments were conducted in a double-walled triaxial cell on samples of a compacted silty soil. In the experiments the soil samples were subjected to isotropic consolidation followed by unloading and subsequent reloading under constant suction and prescribed overconsolidated ratio. The experimental results are presented in the context of an elasto-plastic model for unsaturated soil. The effects of suction on mechanical behaviour of unsaturated silty soil are presented and discussed. It is shown that increasing suction affects the shear behaviour of unsaturated soils, but there is a limit beyond which, further increase in suction will not result in any significant change in the behaviour.

  • Consolidation in cohesive soils mainly focuses on compressibility of soils, but it affects solute transport in some cases. The consolidation process takes on particular significance for fine grained soils at high water content, such as dredged sediments, but has also been shown to be important for compacted clay liners during waste filling operation. Numerical investigation using CST1 and CST2 was reviewed on consolidation-induced solute transport in this paper, especially with the development of CST2 model, verification by comparing experimental results with numerical simulations, and cases studies regarding transport in a confined disposal facility (CDF) and during in-situ capping. The importance of the consolidation process on solute transport is accessed based on simulated concentration or mass breakthrough curves. Results indicate that neglecting transient consolidation effects may lead to significant errors in transport analyses, especially with soft contaminated cohesive soils undergoing large volume change.

  • Two-dimensional, unsteady, incompressible and compressible Navier-Stokes codes are developed for the computation of the viscous turbulent flow over high-lift airfoils. The compressible code involves a conventional upwind-differenced scheme for the convective terms and LU-SGS scheme for temporal integration. The incompressible code with pseudo-compressibility method also adopts the same schemes as the compressible code. Three two-equation turbulence models are evaluated by computing the flow over single and multi-element airfoils. The compressible and incompressible codes are validated by predicting the flow around the RAE 2822 transonic airfoil and the NACA 4412 airfoil, respectively. In addition, both the incompressible and compressible code are used to compute the flow over the NLR 7301 airfoil with flap to study the compressible effect near the high-loaded leading edge. The grid systems are efficiently generated using Chimera overlapping grid scheme. Overall, the κ-ω SST model shows closer agreement with experiment results, especially in the prediction of adverse pressure gradient region on the suction surfaces of high-lift airfoils.

Dynamic Correction of DES Model Constant for the Advanced Prediction of Supersonic Base Flow (초음속 기저유동의 우수한 예측을 위한 DES 모델상수의 동적 보정)

  • The DES analysis of strong compressibility flow, LES mode is intentionally performed in boundary layer with the conventional empirical constant $C_{DES}$ value of 0.65. In this study, an expression is suggested to determine the $C_{DES}$ value dynamically by using a distribution function of the ratio of turbulence length scale and wall distance which is used in S-A DDES model for RANS mode protection. The application of the dynamic $C_{DES}$ presents better prediction than previous results those used constant but different $C_{DES}$ values.
