  • The transition metal oxides have been of interest as bifunctional electrocatalysts for bifunctional air electrodes. The amorphous citrate precursor (ACP) process has been optimized to prepare perovskite (La0.6Ca0.4CoO3) and pyrochlore (Pb2Ru2O6) powders with high surface area, and consequent improvement of The electrocatalytic performance in an air electrode with thermal treatment. PTFE -bonded gas diffusion electrodes loaded with perovskitc and pyrochlore catalysts showed good bifunctional performances. The electrodes were fairly stable up to 100 hour in the galvanostatic mode at ${\pm}25mA/cm^2$, from which these electrodes offer promise as practical bifunctional air electrodes.

  • To produce acetoin as a precursor of the tetramethylpyrazine flavor compound from citrate by Lactococcus lactis ssp. lactis biovar. diacetilactis FC1, fermentation factors such as inital pH of culture media, temperature, concentration of Na-citrate, thiamin-HC1 and sugars were examined. The best acetoin production was achieved with initial pH in the culture media of 5.5, fermentation temperature of $34^{\circ}C$, Na-citrate concentration of 3%, addition of thiamin-HC1 at 2 mg/l and galactose as a carbon source. When fermentation was carried out under the optimum conditions, the exhaustion of Na-citrate and the production of acetoin took simultaneously and acetoin reached the maximum content, 80 mmole/l after 20 hours.

  • The sol-gel technique has been studied to fabricate a homogeneous Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst. Ambient effects (air, Ar, and $H_2$) on thermal decomposition of the citrate precursor have been systematically investigated to fabricate an Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst. Severe agglomeration of metal catalyst was observed under thermal decomposition of citrate precursor in air atmosphere. Ar/$H_2$ atmosphere effectively restricted agglomeration of bimetallic catalyst and formation of highly-dispersed Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst with high specific surface-area due to the formation of Fe-Mo nanoclusters within MgO support. High-quality thin-multiwalled carbon nanotubes (t-MWCNTs) with uniform diameters were achieved on a large scale by catalytic decomposition of methane over Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst prepared under Ar-atmosphere. The produced t-MWCNTs had outer diameters in the range of 4-8 nm (average diameter ~6.6 nm) and wall numbers in the range of 4-7 graphenes. The as-synthesized t-MWCNTs showed product yields over 450% relative to the utilized Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst, and indicated a purity of about 85%.

  • In this study, YDC powders with uniform composition and particle size were synthesized by a citrate method and their thin film deposition was conducted by electrospray deposition method. Polymeric precursor was prepared first by reaction of metal salts with citrate acid and ethylene glycol. Fluorite crystalline YDC powders were obtained by calcining the precursor at $750^{\circ}C$ for 3 h. The electrospray deposited films prepared at the optimum conditions became dense and defect-free after heat treatment at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 3 h. The film thickness was linearly varied with the deposition time.

  • To investigate the development and densification YBa2Cu3O7-x(1-2-3) superconducting phase, the 1-2-3 phase powders have been prepared by citrate and nitrate processes with changing calcination temperature. Nearly pure 1-2-3 phase peaks have been obtained by calcining the precursor in air at 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 2.5h in citrate process but at 95$0^{\circ}C$ for 2.5h in nitrate process. The sintering density of citrate derived sample calcined at 80$0^{\circ}C$ has been about 4% higher than that calcined at 90$0^{\circ}C$, although the compacting density has been lower at 80$0^{\circ}C$ calcination. This can be explained that the 1-2-3 phase particles formed at 80$0^{\circ}C$ have reactive sub-micron size which has good sinterbililty.

  • Nanosized $BaCeO_3$ powders with the stoichiometric composition of a molecular level were synthesized by the citrate process based on the Pechini method. Polymeric precursor was formed by use of citric acid and ethylen glycol, as chelating agent of metal ions and reaction medium, respectively. Single phase orthorhombic structured $BaCeO_3$powders, about 100 nm sized and uniform shaped were obtained through the calcination of the polymeric precursor at $900^{\circ}C$ for 4 h. Extremely small quantities of carbonate ions($CO_^{2-}$) were completely decomposed at over $1100^{\circ}C$. The mean size of the powders was increased twice, however, it has very uniform distribution in its size and shape.

  • The effects of allylisothiocyanate on the biosynthesis of various fungus metabolites such as sterigmatocystin, lipid, protein, citrate RNA and AMP from the culture of Aspergillus Parasiticus R-716 were investigated. The content of sterigmatocystin, the precursor of aflatoxin, was lower in the culture added with 50ppm allylisothicoyanate after 48 hours, however was rather higher after 144 hours compared to that of the control. The addition of allylisothiocyanate resulted in the increase of lipid, protein, RNA in mycelium and the content of citrate in the media, but the amount of AMP was low.

  • The mechanical process followed by hydrometallurgical treatment has been developed in order to recover cobalt and lithium from spent lithium ion battery. In the previous study, a citrate precursor combustion process to prepare cathodic active materials from the leaching solution was elucidated. Resynthesis of electrode materials should be more valuable in spent battery recycling. Conventional slurry mixing of $LiCoO_2$ and carbon cannot make uniform distribution, and therefore the cathode cannot reach the theoretical charge-discharge capacity and is easily degraded during the charge-discharge cycling. In this study, ultra-fine $LiCoO_2$ powders has been prepared by modification of the combustion process and fabricated the enhanced cathode by modification of mixing method of $LiCoO_2$ and carbon added.

  • High Tc superconducting with a BiSrCaCuO was prepared by the citrate method. The solid precursor produced by the dehydration of the gel at $120^{\circ}C$ for 12h is not in the a morphous state as expected but in a crystalline state. X -ray diffraction peaks of nearly the same angular position as the peaks of high Tc phase were observed in the precursor.
