  • In light of extreme value distribution probability, an improved prediction method of the Recurrence Period Wind Speed (RPWS) is constructed considering wind direction, with the Equivalent Independent Wind Direction Number (EIWDN) introduced as a parameter variable. Firstly, taking the RPWS prediction of Beijing city as an example, the traditional Cook method is used to predict the RPWS of each wind direction based on the measured wind speed data in Beijing area. On basis of the results, the empirical formulae to determine the parameter variables are fitted to construct an improved expression of the non-exceedance probability of the RPWS. In this process, the statistical model of the optimal threshold is established, and thus the independent wind speed samples exceeding the threshold are extracted and fitted to follow the Generalized Pareto Distribution (GPD) model for analysis. In addition, the Extreme Value Type I (EVT I) distribution model is used to predict and analyze the RPWS. To verify its wide applicability, the improved method is further used in cities like Jinan, Nanjing, Wuxi, Shanghai and Shenzhen to predict and analyze the RPWS of each wind direction, and the prediction results are compared against those gained via the traditional Cook method and the whole direction. Results show that the 50-year RPWS results predicted by the improved method are basically consistent with those predicted by the traditional method, and the RPWS prediction values of most wind directions are within the envelope range of the whole wind direction prediction value. Compared with the traditional method, the improved method can readily predict the RPWS under different return periods through empirical formulae, and avoid the repeated operation process and some assumptions in the traditional Cook method, and then improve the efficiency of prediction. In addition, the improved RPWS prediction results corresponding to the GPD model are slightly larger than those of the EVT I distribution model.

  • This study aims to analyze the causes and characteristics of conflicts arising from the relocation of national defense facilities, focusing on the Jeonju Aviation School relocation project, and to explore effective conflict management strategies. As urbanization progresses, military facilities initially located on the outskirts of cities have been integrated into urban areas, increasing the need for relocation. This process frequently results in conflicts among the government, the military, and local residents due to differing interests. This study employs a combination of literature review and surveys to examine perceptions of conflict causes and resolution strategies. The findings reveal that the primary conflict factors include inadequate information provision and consultation, noise and property value decline, and unilateral decision-making processes. Participatory decision-making was found to be effective in resolving conflicts. Based on these findings, the study proposes policy recommendations such as institutional improvements, enhanced information disclosure and communication, comprehensive compensation systems, and strengthened expertise in conflict management. This research is significant in empirically confirming the importance of participatory decision-making in national defense facility relocation projects and providing specific policy suggestions for conflict management.

  • The suburban residential areas encircling major Japanese cities, established during the era of rapid economic growth, grapple with a formidable challenge as their original residents age swiftly. The migration of individuals toward city centers and proximity to train stations, coupled with an aging populace and diminishing birthrate, portends a diminishing functionality of these towns, significantly impacting residents' lives and posing a potential threat to their future. Within the context of a rapidly aging society, the effective utilization of the substantial existing housing stock emerges as a critical issue, essential for shaping future housing policies in a super-aging society. This thesis investigates vacant rooms within detached houses, a segment of spatial stock, with the goal of comprehending the mechanisms instigating their occurrence. The aim is to predict their future through the formulation of a mathematical equation encapsulating the conditions leading to their formation. Through the analysis of data from 76 houses out of 118 questionnaires and 36 interviews, where respondents acknowledged having vacant rooms, the study seeks to elucidate the governing mechanisms. It identifies factors exhibiting correlation or causal relationships with the emergence of vacant rooms by scrutinizing the timing and circumstances of the current vacant rooms. The thesis asserts that the genesis of vacant spaces can be explicated by a simple equation, notably linked with life plans. It introduces three scenarios-optimistic, intermediate, and pessimistic-and provides recommendations for addressing potential outcomes. In the backdrop of a diminishing and aging population, understanding available spatial resources is pivotal. The thesis contends that the detailed exploration of each scenario offers crucial insights for cultivating sustainable residential communities, extending beyond urban planning to encompass area management, individual decision-making, and the development of commercially viable housing aligned with these decisions.

  • The purpose of this study was to research modern reinterpretation of traditional Chinese culture and design development of fashion items in the context of globalization and technological advancements, reflecting fashion demands of young female consumers in their 20s in China. To achieve this, this study investigated fashion preferences of young women in major Chinese cities, focusing on design elements such as form, details, patterns, and colors in 'New Chinese Style' fashion. Results indicated a high preference for overlapping collars, Mandarin collars, oblique front pieces, and slit sleeves. Additionally, there was a strong preference for natural and eco-friendly materials such as plant dyes and embossed velvet. Based on survey results and analysis of the popular brand 'TUYUE,' this study proposed two design themes. The first theme, 'natural symbiosis,' focused on casual wear with a soft and free image with a simple design. The second theme, 'chivalrous guest,' targeted work attire with minimal designs emphasizing power and confidence. Both themes aimed to meet aesthetic and practical needs of modern women by incorporating overlapping collars, asymmetrical front pieces, slit sleeves, and preferred colors and patterns. In conclusion, although this study was limited to design preferences of young Chinese women in their 20s, results offer valuable direction for future design innovation, contributing to sustainable development of the fashion industry and the preservation and innovation of traditional culture.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the current status of ordinances enacted by local governments in relationship to the promotion and revitalization of smart tourism cities and to present the direction and improvements of ordinances to local governments through the content analysis of the ordinances. The ordinances of 15 local governments that have enacted and implemented smart tourism promotion ordinances as of June 2024 were analyzed by an analysis framework consisting of targets, promotion projects, delivery systems, and financial funding based on Gilbert and Terrell's policy analysis model. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the smart tourism promotion ordinances of local governments have recently been enacted and are in the attractive stage, focusing on technology, content, and service items applied to smart tourism rather than reflecting regional characteristics. As a result of analyzing the provisions related to the target, promoting projects, delivery systems, and financial funding in the composition of the ordinance, it was found that local governments were somewhat lacking in promoting smart tourism projects overall. Based on the analysis results, the direction of development of the smart tourism promotion ordinance was suggested.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to map the incidence of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) among under-5 children in Indonesia, address the triple burden of malnutrition, and analyze the impact of malnutrition on ARIs, taking into account the environmental and wealth disparities in Indonesia. Methods: This study utilized an ecological design, analyzing aggregate data from the Indonesia Nutrition Survey, 2022. It encompassed 33 provinces and 486 districts/cities, involving a total of 334 878 children under 5 years of age. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was employed to investigate the relationships among wealth, environment, malnutrition (stunting, wasting, and underweight), and ARIs. Results: The proportion of ARI cases in Indonesia was generally concentrated in central Sumatra, the western and eastern parts of Java, and eastern Papua. In contrast, the northern part of Sumatra, central Kalimantan, central Sulawesi, and central Papua had a higher proportion of malnutrition cases compared to other regions. Negative associations were found between malnutrition and ARIs (path coefficient=-0.072; p<0.01) and between wealth and environment (path coefficient=-0.633; p<0.001), malnutrition (path coefficient=-0.399; p<0.001), and ARIs (path coefficient=-0.918; p<0.001). Conclusions: An increasing wealth index is expected to contribute to reducing ARIs, malnutrition and environmental burdens in the future. This study emphasizes the necessity for focused strategies that address both immediate health challenges and the underlying socioeconomic determinants to improve child health outcomes in the Indonesian context.

  • During the last two decades, Korea has achieved remarkable economic growth. In this process the nation has become urbanized and industrialized. But we have also encountered widening regional disparity, housing shortage of larger cities, transportation congestion, environmental pollution and many other problems. Rapid increasing urbanization and continuous migration toward Seoul since the late 1960s have been one of the major concerns of government. Government has sought ways to moderate the population increase in Seoul. The regulation which include new town development near Seoul and dispersion strategies of higher education and other administration and living facilities outside of Seoul havemade a great expansion of the spatial influence of Seoul city. Seoul metropolitan reaion has evolved as the most powerful center of political and economical spaces. Generally within a metropolitan region, there exists a growing mutual interdependence economically, as well as socially between a central city and its surrounding area. Seoul metropolitan region manifests itself not only as a coherent system of urbanized regions, but also as an integral part of the daily urban system. The surrounding Gyunggi province and Seoul city become closely linked both economically and functionally, constituting true functlonai urban system. This study is primarily undertaken with the purpose of delineation of the sphere of influence of Seoul city in 1990. At the time of 1985, Seoul metropolitan region was delineated according to the result of the study which was performed by Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements. Afterward, the rapid speed of metropolitanization process with dramatic increase in mobility through the provision of wider transportation system across the Capital region have evolved, resulting in the great expansion of the spatial influence of Seoul city. So this study examines the expanded area of Seoul metropolitan regin during the period of 1985-90. In order to delineate Seoul metropolitan region, the indices of urbanization and functional linkage are selected. Variables included in the measurement of the urbanization level are agricultural structure, population characteristics, manufacturing and service industries, and cultural aspects such as newspaper circulation, the ratio of car ownership and piped water supply. Variables included in the measurement of functional linkage are commuting, shopping pattern, centralized service such as medical facilities and trade of agricultural products. The standardization method and factor analysis are employed in making the delineation of Seoul metropolitan region. According to the result of this study, 2 cities, 8 Eups and 46 Myuns are included Seoul metropolitan region in 1990. If we compare this delineated area in 1990 to that of 1985, we can find the distinctive pattern of expanded axes according to the main transportation routes such as Seoul-Suweon, Seoul-Gwangju, Seoul-Incheon. In 199O, all the Gyunggi province, except a few Myuns located at the north and northwest part of Gyunggi province, are included in Seoul metropolitan region. Furthermore, this study attempts to the analysis of regional structure of Seoul metropolitan region according to the functional characteristics of each city and Gun. Variables included in this analysis are the new residential function, manufacturing function, service function, education and infermation function, public facility function and agricultural function. Factor analysis and cluster analysis are employed in making regionalization. Seoul metropolitan reaion is subdivided into four subregions which reflect different functional specialization. The first group is the specialized region of newly formed residential function. The second group is the specialized reaion of manufacturing function. The third group is the specialized region of service function. And the fourth group has little specialized in terms of manufacturing, service, and residential function. But this region has some potentiality of development when Seoul metropolitan region grow continuously. Seoul metropolitan region accounted for 43% of national population, despite 11.8% of national land size in 1990. Although Seoul metropolitan region enjoys important agglomeration economies, it also has huge social cost in the form of transportation congestion, housing shortage, rapid increase of land value, environment pollution, and etc. Efficient metropolitan plan making is a vital element in promoting Seoul's economic development and providing high quality living environment at low cost. In the light of the result of this study, the outer ring of Seoul metropolitan region, especially northeastern part, are underdeveloped compared to overdeveloped southwestern area. It is needed to develop the guidelines for the implement of the growth control and management plan, inducing more balanced development for whole Seoul metropolitan reaion.

  • The purpose of this study is to derive political implications and to look into the establishment of new directions for the biotope mapping across the Korean territory so that such biotope mapping process could be used as a means of actual plan for natural environment preservation through the comparative study of biotope mapping methodology with that of the biotope mapping pioneer-Germany. As for research methodology, this study collected literature and data related to the biotope mapping of Korea and Germany and examined the general characteristics and inclinations about biotope mapping of both country, at a level of the national territory, federal government, provincial government, city and settlement areas. As a result of the examination, first, it was found that Germany drew up a landscape eco-type map and ecological landscape grade map throughout the nation in order to preserve and manage effectively by differential landscape eco-type unit. In contrast, Korea drew up a map on which Degree of Green Naturality and Ecological Nature Status are reflected for natural environment preservation at a nationwide unit. Secondly, the biotope mapping of German was worked centering on natural areas and their corresponding areas at German provincial government level and it drew up a Red-list by each province, while Korea has yet to carry out biotope mapping at a provincial level corresponding to Germany's. Thirdly, the biotope mapping on German cities and settlement areas includes not only big city areas but also medium & small cities and rural areas whereas Korean biotope mapping is conducted mainly centering on urban areas. In conclusion, this study suggests that the biotope mapping including natural areas and anti-natural area, not limited to city areas should be revitalized in order to be a real means of the all territory's balanced natural environment and biotope preservation & management. In addition, for this purpose, this study suggests that research on biotope pattern catalog and biotope red-list applicable to all territory should be preceded.

  • The Anyang-cheon is one of the Han River tributaries in Seoul Metropolitan area. It is 35.1km long, has a basin area of 287km2 and touches seven cities of Kyounggi Province and part of Seoul. The purpose of this study were 1) to reconstruct the ancient stream network and to investigate the change of landuse in Anyang-cheon watershed between 1957 and 1991,2) to measure the change of the hydrologic ¬acteristics with urbanization, 3) to suggest the institutional solutions to reduce natural hazard as the area has urbanizedThe main results are as follows: 1.Anyang-cheon river basin has experienced the rapid urbanization and industrialization since 1957. Anyang-cheon stream network was oversimplified in the watershed. The total stream length decreased atributaries in the upper part of river basin have eliminated or buried undergrolmd in pipes. 2.Urbanization impacted to all of the area of Anyang-cht'On watershed. Urbanization in Anyang-cheon watershed corresponds to the large portion of flat area, especially flood - prone zone of river side, and the small portion of Greenbelt to constrain urban expantion in cities. 3.The urbanization of Anyang-cheon watershed produces fundamental changes in watershed hydrology. As infiltration is reduced by the creation of extensive pavement, concrete surface, and sewer pipe, runoff moves more quickly from upland to stream. As a result, runoff from the watershed is flashier, increasing flood hazardAs urban area continue to grow we will need to better utilize stream by protecting and enhancing stream systems.otecting and enhancing stream systems.tems.
