This study explores the relationship of mother's perceptions on child development, achievement pressure and parenting stress. The participants were 275 mothers of preschool-age children in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. The results were as follows. Maternal perception of child development, achievement pressure and parenting stress were significantly different according to gender, birth order of the child and the employment status of the mother. Maternal perception of child development, achievement pressure and parenting stress were related to each variable. The results of the regression analysis indicated that the maternal perception of child development and achievement pressure were significant variables in predicting the parenting stress of mothers.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between job stress, turnover intention, and the moderating roles of motivation for child care work. The subjects were 238 child-care teachers who were worked at child-care centers in Seoul. Questionnaires were used to rate job stress, turnover intention, and the motivation for child care work of teachers. The collected data were mainly analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test, Pearson's correlation and the multiple regression analysis. The main results of this study were as follows. First, there were differences in turnover intention according to individual characteristics such as career at the current child-care center and total career. Second, job stress was positively correlated with turnover intention, and negatively correlated with active motivation and material motivation. And turnover intention was negatively correlated with active motivation and material motivation. Third, a moderator effect of the active motivation was found in the relationship between the job stress and the turnover intention. Especially the active motivation is suggested to reduce the negative results of job stress and turnover intention. Therefore, the results indicate the importance of the active motivation which is considered as an aptitude, interest, affection for children and self realization when child-care teachers make a decision to enter the child-care work profession.

Purpose: Although Hemophilia is a relatively rare hereditary disease, and is treatable with blood products, the parenting stress and guilt of hemophilic patients and their mothers are always high. This study was done to assess the extent of parenting stress, guilt, parenting attitude and parenting satisfaction of mothers with a hemophilic child. Method: The participants in this study were 119 mothers with a hemophilic child who were registered members of the Korea Hemophilia Foundation, and 287 mothers with a healthy child. In order to measure the dimensions related to parenting stress, guilt, parenting attitude and parenting satisfaction, the Questionnaire on Parenting Stress Index, Maternal Guilt Scale, Parenting Attitude Scale & Parenting Satisfaction Scale were administered. We analysed the differences between mothers with a hemophilic child and a healthy child in the questionnaire scores using the SPSS program. Result: Parenting stress and guilt of mothers with a hemophilic child were higher than with a healthy child. Parenting attitude and parenting satisfaction of mothers with a hemophilic child were lower than with a healthy child. Conclusion: The results may help medical professionals understand mothers with a hemophilic child and give basic assistance to develop a nursing intervention by exploring possible ways to alleviate such parenting stress and guilt.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of sand play therapy on the parenting stress and saliva cortisol levels of parents undergoing child counseling programs. The study was conducted with 13 parents who were undergoing child counseling programs. The sessions were held every week for 45 minutes from July, 2011 to September, 2011. To evaluate the effects of sand play therapy, pre test and post test were conducted and the results were then analyzed. The therapy sessions consist of parents making sand boxes, and this was done without consideration of any particular theme. The instrument used was Abidin (1990)'s Parenting Stress Instrument (PSI). Saliva cortisol levels were obtained at the pre-post stage of the sand play therapy. The data were analyzed by means of frequency and the Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test was conducted by the SPSS. The major findings were as follows; There were significant differences in terms of the decreases in the areas of perception of all the parenting stresses examined, including daily life stress, child temperament stress, child relationship stress, and learning-expectation stress, as well as in saliva cortisol levels. Finally, this study suggests that parenting stress and saliva cortisol levels have a positive relationship, and the effects of sand play therapy were significant with decreases in parenting stress and saliva cortisol levels. There is a clear need for parents undergoing child counseling programs to engage in sand play therapy to decrease parenting stress and saliva cortisol levels.
This study examined how child care teachers' background characteristics, self-efficacy and job stress relate to their job satisfaction. Participants were 400 child care teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi, Korea. Structural equation models were developed based on the authors' hypothesized model, which proposed that teachers' self-efficacy and job stress have a mediating effect in the relationship between teachers' background characteristics and job satisfaction. The results revealed that career directly influenced on self-efficacy and job stress but had no direct effect on job satisfaction. Education level was found to have a direct effect on job stress but had no direct effect on self-efficacy and job satisfaction. Teachers' self-efficacy affected job stress and job satisfaction and job stress affected job satisfaction. Furthermore, self-efficacy mediated the effects of career on job stress and job satisfaction. Additionally, job stress mediated the effects of education level and self-efficacy on job satisfaction. These results suggested that teachers' self-efficacy and job stress were key predictors and mediating variables in the relationship between background characteristics and job satisfaction.
This study examined whether any relationship exists between teachers' and children's perceptions of the teacher-child relationship and how factors such as the child's self-regulation and stress, and the teacher's self-efficacy and stress affect the teacher-child relationship. The participants for this study consisted of 101 kindergarteners and 17 teachers. Most of the children (88%) and teachers (88%) perceived teacher-child closeness. On the other hand, 22% of children and 11% of teachers perceived teacher-child conflict. The child's self-regulation affected both children's and teachers' perceptions of teacher-child closeness and conflict. The teacher's self-efficacy affected both children's and teachers' perceptions of teacher-child closeness. It also affected teachers' perceptions of teacher-child conflict. The child's and teacher's stress affected both children's and teachers' perceptions of teacher-child conflict. These findings were discussed with respect to implications for the classroom and future research.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to develop programs that help students adjust to school and provide basic data for the students who have difficulty adjusting to school by analyzing the influence of elementary school students' stress and their relationship with parents on school adjustment. Methods: The study surveyed fourth graders in 3 elementary schools in G district. The researcher used convenience sampling to select the 3 elementary schools. The combined 158 students were selected for the analysis, and the survey was conducted for a month in September 2011. The stress monitoring tool used in the 5th year of Korean Youth Panel Survey was mobilized to measure levels of stress among the participants. To measure the parent-child relationship, the Korean Parent-Child Relationships Scale was used. For the measurement of school adjustment, a tool designed to identify the school adjustment of elementary school students was used. The SPSS 21 software and a two-sided test under the significance level of ${\alpha}=0.05$ were used to analyze data. The regression analysis was also used to identify the relative influence of the stress and parent-child relationship on children's adjustment to school. Results: The regression analysis has found the following: the higher peer stress (B=-0.175) and parental strictness (B=-0.159) grow, the lower the level of school adjustment gets; the higher the level of intimacy between parent and child gets, the higher the level of school adjustment grows; and intimacy between parent and child (${\beta}=0.400$) has the largest influence on the child's school adjustment. Conclusions: For elementary school students to be well adjusted to school, their stress and relationships with their parents should be managed. In particular, using the programs that can reduce stress from peers and increase parent-child intimacy will be effective in helping students adjust to school.
This study examined the effects of paternal participation in child care and social support on planning for a second childbirth, focusing on the mediating effect of the mother's parenting stress. The 887 subjects studied in this paper were mothers who have a first child, and were selected from a sample of the 2nd Panel Study of Korean Children(PSKC) by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education(KICCE), conducted in 2009. Data was analyzed using a Structural Equation Model(SEM) to identify a structure and relationships among factors. The significance of indirect effects to test the mediating effect of maternal parenting stress was identified via bootstrapping. Results indicated that maternal parenting stress partially mediated the relationship between the father's participation in child care and planning for a second childbirth, and absolutely mediated the relationship between social support and planning for a second childbirth. The findings reveal the importance of reducing parenting stress, given its substantial impact on planning for a second childbirth.
This study was performed to clarify which variables affected a mother‘s empathic behavior shown in a mother-child play session. Mother’s empathy was videotaped and recorded during mother-child twenty minute play sessions. The variables considered in the research were the mother‘s parenting stress, age and education level, and the child’s sex and birth order. Twenty four mothers volunteered to participate in this study. The age of their children was restricted to 5 years. The results were as follows; First, mothers were verbally more accepting to their second or third child, and allowed their second of third child to lead more than their first child. And older mothers were more likely to accept their children's lead. Seconds, the mothers' parenting stress for acceptance of their children and stress of depression were higher in college graduate mothers than high school graduate mothers. Third, the mother's empathy and level of parenting stress did not show any significant relationships.

Objectives : We investigated the parenting stress and depressive mood of mothers with developmentally-delayed children and the effects of participation in a mother-child development promotion program on same. Methods : Subjects were the mothers of 20 developmentally-delayed children. The severity of the mothers' parenting stress was evaluated via the Korean version of the Parenting Stress Index, Short Form (K-PSI-SF) and the severity of their depressive symptoms were evalueted by the Korean version of the Beck Depression Inventory (K-BDI). Results : The mean K-PSI-SF score and mean K-BDI score for these mothers were 93.35 (SD=10.47) and 23.25 (SD=10.42), respectively. These scores correspond to high parenting stress and moderate depression. The mothers who participated in a mother-child attachment- promotion program showed significant decreases in their K-PSI-SF and KBDI scores. Conclusion : Our data suggest that a mother-child attachment promotion program with emphasis on child development is effective in reducing parenting stress and depressive mood in mothers of developmentally-delayed children.
