Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate food hygiene and safety knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) among the elementary school children, and furthermore, to explain the interrelations among these three variables. A second purpose was to compare gender differences of KAP. Methods: A self-administered, structured questionnaire was designed and completed by 376 elementary school children. A five-point Likert scale with twenty questions was used to gather information. Data was analyzed by frequency analysis, Pearson's correlation and analysis of variance or Student's t-test. Results: Children generally had good knowledge of food hygiene and safety, and knowledge of children was superior to the attitudes and also to their practices (p < 0.05). The attitude score was mediated between knowledge and practice scores. Significant differences (p < 0.05) were found between boys and girls in an item of knowledge, three items of attitudes, and six items of practices. A significant positive correlations were observed between knowledge and practices (${\gamma}$ = 0.70, p < 0.001), and between attitudes and practices (${\gamma}$ = 0.45, p < 0.001), as well as between attitudes and practices (${\gamma}$ = 0.51, p < 0.001), revealing that increased knowledge and even attitudes toward food hygiene safety could result in positive change in practices or behaviors. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that despite good knowledge and attitudes of children, their practices toward food hygiene and safety are not acceptable. Gender differences in practices were highlighted. In order to create effective educational interventions on the food hygiene and safety of children, a better understanding of their awareness and the required related information is necessary.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting credit card attitudes, financial management practices, and sound credit card use among college students, and to conceptualize a theoretical model. Earlier studies identified a number of antecedent variables (such as gender, year in college, job experience, amount of allowance, family income, living with parents, having taken a personal financial management course) and intervening variables (such as attitudes towards credit cards and financial management practices) as useful predictors of sound credit card practices. Four hundred and thirty four undergraduate students in Daejeon participated in this study. Stepwise multiple regression and path analysis were conducted. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Students' attitudes towards credit cards were affected by their you in college, whether they were living with their parents, and the amount of their allowance. Similarly, students' financial management practices were affected by their year in college, whether they were living with their parents, the amount of their allowance, and whether and not they had taken a personal financial management course. 2. Sound credit card practices were influenced by students' gender, their year in college, the amount of their allowance, attitudes towards credit cards, and financial management practices. 3. The path-analysis model demonstrates the relationships among the antecedent variables, intervening variables (credit card attitude, financial management practices), and sound credit card use.
The purpose of this study was to examine how college students' attitudes toward the use of money and credit cards have affected their financial management practices. The data were collected from 231 college students in Seoul using by a self administered questionnaire. Frequencies, factor analyses, t-tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression were conducted using by SPSSWIN 12.0. The results from this study were as follows. First, results of the factor analysis of attitudes toward the use of money were divided into 5 dimensions such as instrument of ostentation, sufficiency of desire, source of anxiety, diligence and economy, and instrument of preparation for the future. Attitudes toward the uses of credit cards were divided into 3 dimensions, such as positive affection, cognition of reverse function, and attitudes of use-behavior. Financial management practices were divided into 2 dimensions: planning and performing. Second, social-demographical & economical factors, among such as gender, allowance, financial stress, number of credit -cards possessed, and expenses of credit -cards totals each month were significant in the regression analyses for the financial management practices. The results indicate that attitudes toward the use of money have a bigger effect on financial management practices than attitudes towards credit cards. Specifically, attitudes toward the use of money as an instrument of preparation for the future had the most effect on the financial management practices. These results imply that for sound financial management practices to take place, there needs to be education on attitudes toward the use of money.
The purpose of this study was to analyze university students' attitudes toward hair care as well as their hair care practices and spending. The analytical tools include the chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The major findings were as follows: (1) The mean of university students' attitudes toward hair care was 18.5(out of a possible 30). (2) The variables that significantly influenced students' attitudes toward hair care were gender, school year and monthly spending money. (3) Hair care practices differed according to demographic variables and attitudes toward hair care. (4) The average monthly expenditure on hair care was 31,769 won. The variable that most influenced monthly hair care expenditures was gender. In sum, this study found that the variable with the largest effect on hair care attitudes, practices and spending was gender.
The objectives of the study were to determine 1) energy uses for residential requirements, 2) if energy consumption and adoption of energy conservation attitudes and practices vary with independent variables family size, stage of family life cycle, homemaker's level of education, income, heating system, and number of electrical household items, and 3) if there is a correlation between energy conservation attitudes and practices. Questionnaires were given to the randomly selected homemakers I Seoul in the summer (September, 1979) and the winter (February, 1980). Analysis of variance and correlation were used to analyzed the data which consisted of 537 usable responses of 895 returned in the summer and 554 responses of 794 returned in the winter. The results are as follows: 1) The order of consumption rate of the direct energy uses for residential requirements was found to be heating and air conditioning, cooking, refrigeration, T.V., lighting, and miscellaneous. 2) Energy consumption and adoption of energy conservation attitudes and practices were significantly related to family size, homemaker's level of education, and the stage of family life cycle. (1) Families of five members revealed higher scores in attitudes and practices than families less than five or more than six. (2) The higher the homemaker's level of education, the more energy consumption and the higher scores I attitudes and practices were found. (3) Families in the middle stage of family life cycle tend to use more energy than younger or older families, but their scores in attitudes and practices were high. 3) There was a significant correlation between energy conservation attitudes and practices. However, the scores of the conservation practices were not as good as the attitudes. It may be attributed to either a lack of knowledge and/or financial difficulties, or a dissonance between the concept and implementation of energy conservation. 4) Recommendations for the energy-saving and energy-related public policies are: (1) to use such human resources as attitudes, values, feelings of agreement, and cooperation, as well as nonhuman resources for the energy conservation, (2) to develop a educational program and a creative system I order to implement energy conservation programs, and (3) to consider direct as well as indirect energy uses I selecting goods and services.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate mothers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices of infection prevention for their children. Methods: In this descriptive study, data were collected using a questionnaire. A total 157 mothers of young children were surveyed regarding their knowledge, attitudes, and practices of infection prevention. Results: The mean score of knowledge, attitudes, and practices of infection prevention in mothers was found to be above average. There were significant differences in knowledge according to whether the mother was employed (t=2.82, p=.005) and in attitudes according to the mother's age (t=2.13, p=.035). In addition, a significant correlation was found between knowledge and attitudes (r=.16, p=.014), and between attitudes and practices (r=.50, p<.001). Conclusion: This research provides baseline information to understand mothers' approaches to infection prevention for their children, and it may serve as a basis for providing educational programs that help infection prevention.
The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships between parents'attitudes toward emergent literacy and home literacy practices with toddlers and preschoolers. The researcher developed the instrument based on a literature review and on other researchers'(Fitzgerald, Spiegel, & Cunningham, 1991; DeBaryshe & Binder, 1994) questionnaires for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. The researcher did a pilot study to examine the appropriateness of the questionnaires with 68 parents. A total of 274 parents who sent their children to daycare centers participated in this study in central Pennsylvania. To analyze the data for this study, The researcher employed Frequency, Mean, Standard Deviation, Pearson's correlations, Multiple Regression Analysis. Demographic characteristics and parents'attitudes toward emergent literacy which consisted with writing and reading attitudes of literacy were related to home literacy practices for toddlers and preschoolers.. Writing attitudes and verbal participation in reading were the most predicting variables in home literacy practices. The results of this study addressed the importance of the role of belief systems in literacy teaming between parents and children.
Teachers' attitudes and beliefs are related to teaching practices and are dependent upon their teaching domain. The present study compares conceptual models of creative student oriented teaching practices of mathematics teachers in two OECD countries, South Korea and Turkey to provide an insight for teacher educators and policy makers. Teaching and Learning International Survey 2008 (TALIS 2008) data are used to test the fit of a path analysis model with a subsample of l337 middle school mathematics teachers ($N_{Korea}$ = 562 vs. $N_{Turkey}$ = 775). The study showed that Turkish teachers were younger and less experienced, whereas Korean teachers were better educated. Despite the statistical differences in attitudes, beliefs and practices between countries, it was found that the teaching practices of mathematics teachers in both countries were more complex than to be explained only through attitudes and beliefs.
This study explored culture adaptive attitudes and donning practices of traditional dress among Chinese marriage immigrant women. Quantitative research was conducted on Korea-Chinese multicultural families. Participants were 291 married women in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The data was analyzed using frequency analysis, factor analysis, t-test and correlation analysis. The findings are as follows: First, positive relationship was found between Hanbok acceptance attitudes and Qipao transmission attitudes. The level of Qipao transmission attitudes was higher than Hanbok acceptance attitudes especially in the part of knowledge. Han Chinese showed stronger Qipao transmission attitudes than Korean Chinese. Immigrants without Korean nationality had stronger Qipao transmission attitudes. Higher education group and higher income group showed higher level both on Hanbok acceptance attitudes and Qipao transmission attitudes. Second, more than 50% of Chinese marriage immigrant women wore Hanbok once or twice per a year. On the other hand, only 24% of them wore Qipao. This result shows that there exists a gap in the Qipao transmission attitudes and donning practices. 44% of women wore both Hanbok and Qipao in their own wedding ceremony, 32% wore only Hanbok, and 19% wore only Qipao. 64% of women had an experience of wearing Hanbok on special days such as traditional holidays or family affairs, whereas only 29% had worn Qipao.
This study investigated the correlations of five constructs - health concerns, healthy eating practices and attitudes, food choice motives, attitudes toward organic foods - in the formation of behavioral to the purchasing intentions of organic foods. An instrument encompassing health perception, attitudes, habits and personal traits was developed through the comprehensive reviews of the literature and the assured validity and internal reliability of the contents. The questionnaire was administered to the students of three universities at Daegu, Kyungpook province. A total of 288 questionnaires were collected for a response rate of 96.0%. The correlations of five constructs and purchasing intention were tested simultaneously using structural equation modeling. Healthy eating practices and attitudes toward organic foods were found to be the determinants which directly influence the intention to purchase organic foods. Health concerns didn't show direct relation to the purchasing intention of organic foods. The hypothesized path from the health concerns to the purchasing intentions was not supported. The results indicated that food choice motives and healthy eating attitudes should be managed to achieve higher behavioral intention to purchase organic foods.
