  • Anthropometric data is most basic materials in the all studies related with it. Therefore, in anthropometric data, not only consideration of the state of variance, but more various analysis is needed. This study selected the 13 parts that properly show a whole characteristics of human body and, anthropometric data were obtained through the actual measurements for male and female workers who were engaged in production factory. And, to interpret anthropometric data, principal component analysis of multivariate analysis methods was applied.

  • Since anthropometric data are essential to the design of industrial products, the national anthropometric survey was performed three times in Korea. An Anthropometric Data Manager system (ADaM) was implemented based on the 1992 national anthropometric survey to promote the utilization of the data. The system provides graphic user interface to facilitate usability. Anthropometric information can be obtained in various ways by the following statistical analyses; multivariate features analysis, correlation analysis, and regression. In addition, recommendations for design parameters of industrial products were provided in this system.

  • In this study, anthropometric analysis and usability evaluation for four-wheeled walker were carried out and then ergonomics design guidelines were proposed. In anthropometric analysis, design factors of four-wheeled walker were firstly identified and anthropometric design guidelines were made using Korean human scales. Design suitability for two typical four-wheeled walkers was analyzed in based on anthropometric design guidelines. Usability evaluation for two typical walkers was also performed through observation method and expert evaluation. Several usability problems were identified and design solutions were proposed for the design improvement of four-wheeled walker. Finally a design model of four wheeled walker considering analysis results was proposed.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for elderly women's clothing design and to develop dress forms that can reflect the characteristics of their bodies. Three hundered twenty subjects, between the ages of 60 .approx. 85, were chosen and the data were collected from anthropometric data. Principal component analysis which is one of the basic methods in factor analysis was applied to the interpretation of anthropometric data. As a result of analysis, the data are able to be decided into appropriate group.

  • In this study, when physician make a diagnosis of Sasang constitution of patients, anthropometric data are applied to seek the classification function into Sasang constitution. Data used in the analysis are the anthropometric data of 550 patients who had been treated in nine oriental medical hospital, and our data have no missing value in 12 anthropometric variables. In order to improve the accuracy of classification function into Sasang constitution, we consider one method of variable transformation of anthropometric data based on oriental medicine.

  • The purpose of this study is to extract typical body shapes of Korean adults based on the three-dimensional Korean anthropometric data measured through 5th national anthropometric survey and to examine the suitability of the 3-D human shape data for the interior packaging. 36 three-dimensional anthropometric variables related to the design of vehicle interior were considered for the appraisal of typical body shapes. Four major factors were extracted by the factor analysis and factor scores were calculated for all subjects. Typical or standard drivers of Korean adults were selected by the minimum deviation criteria for the four factor scores with respect to 5th, 50th, and 95th percentiles, respectively. Typical drivers of Korean adults were visualized by the CATIA-HUMAN program due to the absence of proper application software for three-dimensionally scanned human body data. There are considerable differences between the anthropometric data of Korean adults and those provided by CATIA-HUMAN program, which shows that the modeling data provided by CATIA-HUMAN should not be directly applied to the ergonomic evaluation for the vehicle design. This suggests the necessity for the development of suitable software for scanned human shape data. It is also expected that the anthropometric data of typical drivers extracted from this study help design package layouts and improve the suitability of ergonomic evaluation for Korean customers.

  • The primary objective of the research is to develop a mathematical method to incorporate the variability of anthropometric body dimensions and joint strengths of individuals in a biomechanical analysis. A multivariate normal simulation model estimated anthropometric body dimensions and joint strengths of the random link-person, based on the assumptions that the vari- ables of body dimensions and joint strengths are correlated and follow normal distributions. Statistical comparative analysis demonstrated that the random link-person represented a more realistic human-like form in an anthropometric sense than the proportional link-person whose body dimensions were estimated proportionally. Estimated joint strengths for the random link-person, however, did not match the measured joint strengths as closely as the estimated body dimensions. The random link-person will allow biomechanical analysis of manual materials handling tasks to be individualized with respect to the anthropometry and a static strength.

  • Objective: This study aims to investigate relationship between representative anthropometric dimensions and income levels for Korean from 1958 to 1989. The anthropometric dimensions include stature and body weight, and GNP per head was used as an index of income level. Background: Although anthropometric dimensions were affected by varying factors such as genetic, environmental and socioeconomic factors, most studies on anthropometry have focused on measurement methods, providing data and their characteristics. Method: Anthropometric data were retrieved from homepages of Korean Agency for Technology and Standards, and Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism, and GNPs per head by year from Korean Statistical Information Service. Results: During analysis period, statures and body weights for males and females increased by 6.4cm and 6.1cm, 10.7kg and 4.0kg, respectively. Infants' stature and body weight nearly linearly increased with GNPs per head. Anthropometric dimensions of stature and body weight were very positively correlated with GNPs per head. Conclusion: This study revealed that income levels significantly affect stature and body weight. Application: The results would be used as a valuable basic data when establishing government policies related to anthropometry.

  • A graphical method to determine the anthropometric levels that's are lean, slightly lean, normal, slightly obese, obese by BMI, Broca and Rohrer indices was developed. On the graph of height vs. weight, regions corresponding to the anthropometric levels were separated by equations calculated with boundary conditions for BMI, Broca and Rohrer indices, respectivelyl. It was observed that the determinations of the anthropometric level was influenced by the weight to a larger extent than the hight, which magnitude was in the order of BMI>Broca>Rohrer. There appeared significant differences between the results of the anthropometric level for higher and weight by BMI, Broca and Rohrer indices, respectively. Conclusively, the graphical method was proved as a good means to analyze and compare the anthropometric levels from BMI, Broca and Rohrer indices.

  • Recently, the frequency in use of electric adjustable bed is going up by an increase in the elderly population. In bad ergonomic design for an electric adjustable bed causes some problems in the aspects of usability and safety. In particular, lots of accidents came from going up or going down an electric adjustable bed. In that case, the height of bed is very important factor for preventing an accident. This problem is related to its anthropometric factors. Therefore we carried out its anthropometric analysis and old people's standing action according the height of electric adjustable bed as an experimental study. As a result, we proposed some anthropometric design criteria and identified the effect of bed height when old people use it.
