Friedel's salt is an important product of chemical adsorption between cement hydrate and chloride ions because it contains chlorine in its structure. When cement reacts with water in the presence of chloride ions, the $C_3A$ phase, and $C_4AF$ phase react with chloride to produce Friedel's salt. If chloride ions penetrate into concrete from external environments, many calcium aluminate hydrates, including AFm, can bind chloride ions. It is very important, therefore, to investigate the chloride binding isotherm of $C_3A$ phase, $C_4AF$ phase, and AFm phase to gain a better understanding of chloride binding in cementitious materials. Meanwhile, the adsorption isotherm can provide us with the fundamental information for the understanding of adsorption process. The experimental results of the isotherm can supply not only the quantitative knowledge of the cement-Friedel's salt system, but also the mechanism of adsorption and the properties of their interactions. The purpose of this study is to explore the time dependant behaviors of chloride ions adsorption with $C_3A$, $C_4AF$ and AFm phases. The chloride adsorption isotherm was depicted with Langmuir isotherm and the adsorption capacity was low in terms of the stoichiometric point of view. However, the chloride adsorption of AFm phase was depicted with Freundlich isotherm and the value was very low. Since the amount of the adsorption was governed by temperature, the affecting parameters of isotherm were expressed as a function of temperature.
The early hydration characteristics of the system $C_3S-C_3A-C_4AF$ according to the clinker composition variations, in order to establish the mutual interactionof clinker minerals during the portland cement hydration, have been studied. The early hydration rate of $C_3S$ was greatly effected by the change of $C_3S/C_3A$ ratio. The lower the $C_3S/C_3A$ ratio was, the faster the apex reaching time and the rate of heat liberation of the 2nd exothermic peak originating from the formation of $Ca(OH)_2$ were. The effect of $C_3S/C_3A$ ration on the amounts of $Ca(OH)_2$ formation was decreased, in process of hydration time, but the effect of $C_3S$ content was increased.
Recent study shows that ordered alloy of $L1_2$$XPt_3$ (M = V, Cr, Mn, Co, and Fe) exhibits various magnetic phases such as ferromagnetic-to-antiferromagnetic transition at the $MnPt_3$ surface. Moreover, it has been argued that $CrPt_3$, in particular, possess large magnetocrystalline anisotropy and Kerr rotation with possible violation of Hund's rule. As such, we extend our work to thickness dependence of the magnetic structure of $CrPt_3$ thin film using density functional theory. Magnetic ground state of the bulk $CrPt_3$ turns out to be ferromagnetic (FM), where other magnetic phases such as A-type (A-AF), C-type (C-AF), and G-type antiferromagnetic (G-AF) state have higher total energies than FM by 0.517, 0.591, and 0.183 eV, respectively, and magnetic moments of Cr in bulk are respectively 2.807 (FM), 2.805 (A-AF), 2.794 (C-AF) and $2.869_{{\mu}_B}$ (G-AF). We extend our study to $CrPt_3$(001) thin films with CrPt-and Pt-termination. The thickness and surface-termination dependences of magnetism are investigated for 3-9 monolayers (ML), where different magnetic phases from bulk emerge: C-AF for CrPt-terminated 3 ML and G-AF for Pt-terminated 5 ML have energy difference relative to FM by 8 and 54 meV, respectively. Furthermore, thickness- and surface-termination-dependent magnetocrystalline anisotropies of the $CrPt_3$(001) films are discussed.
As a basic study for recycling molten converter slag as an ordinary portland cement (OPC) by a conversion process, the reaction mechanism and the rate of the formation of $C_4AF$ which is one of the main components of OPC were investigated. The converter slag whose basicity was controlled by adding reagent grade $SiO_2$ was melted and hold for 30 minutes in MgO crucible at $1300^{\circ}C{\sim}1350^{\circ}C$. Then, the sintered CaO pellet heated at the same temperature was dipped into the molten slag and hold for $10{\sim}30$minutes. After the reaction, the crucible was cooled in air and the specimen was cut off to the horizontal direction of the crucible. The dissolution rate of $C_3A$ pellet was measured by the change of radius of the sintered $C_3A$ pellet, and the formed phase of $C_4AF$ was observed by SEM/EDX. As a result, the dissolution rate of $C_3A$ pellet into molten slag was increased from $0.75{\times}10^{-4}(cm/sec)$ at $1300^{\circ}C$ to $1.67{\times}10^{-4}(cm/sec)$ at $1350^{\circ}C$, and the mixed layer of $C_4AF$ and $C_{12}A_7$ was found between slag and $C_3A$ pellet.
In this study we mainly dealt with the effects of organic retarder(calcium lignosulfate) on the early hydration process of clinker minerals. From a consideration of the hydration process of tricalcium silicate $(C_3S)$ tricalcium silicate $(C_3S)$-tricalcium aluminate $(C_3A)$ tricalcium silicate $(C_3S)$-tetracalcium aluminof-errite $(C_4AF)$ systems with calcium lignosulfate the following results were obtained. 1. when 0.25wt% of CLS was added to $C_3S$ the hydration process was progressed normally but adding of 0.5wt% its hydration was greatly retarded. 2. The hydration of $C_3S$-$C_3A$ system was progressed normally up to 0.5wt% but by adding gypsum its hydration was retarded slightly. 3. The hydration of $C_3S$-$C_4AF$ system was greatly retarded even with 0.25wt% of CLS but by adding gypsum its hydration process was recovered normally.
Experiments were conducted to determine the efficacy of modified montmorillonite nanocomposite (MMN) to reduce the toxic effects of aflatoxin (AF) in growing/finishing pigs. 96 weaned pigs were assigned to four dietary treatment groups (0 g of MMN and 0 mg of AF/kg feed, 3 g of MMN/kg feed, 0.1 mg of AF/kg feed, and 3 g of MMN plus 0.1 mg of AF/kg feed). Body weight gain (BW gain), feed/gain ratio, serum biochemical values and enzyme activities were evaluated. Compared with the control, AF alone markedly reduced BW gain and resulted in a significantly higher feed/gain ratio. There were no differences in BW gain and feed/gain ratio between 0.3% MMN or 0.3% MMN plus AF and the control. These results suggested that the deleterious effects of AF were ameliorated by MMN addition. AF intake markedly increased relative organ weights of liver, kidney, spleen and pancreas, and resulted in significant alterations of serum parameters. However, these parameters for pigs fed diets containing MMN and AF returned to normal values, indicating that MMN had the ability to recover the AF-decreased performance, organ damage and to correct aberrations in serum parameters. These findings in our study suggested that MMN can effectively modulate the toxicity of AF in growing/finishing pigs and may offer a novel approach to the preventive management of aflatoxicosis in animals.
A lactic acid bacterium having antifungal activity was isolated from kimchi. It was identified as Lactobacillus plantarum based on its morphological and biochemical properties, and 16S rRNA sequence, and designated as Lb. plantarum AF1. This isolate inhibited the growth of Aspergillus flavus ATCC 22546, A. fumigatus ATCC 96918, A. petrakii PF-1, A. ochraceus PF-2, A. nidulans PF-3, Epicoccum nigrum KF-1, and Cladosporium gossypiicola KF-2 under a dual culture overlay assay. Also, the antimicrobial activity was found to be active against various species of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The antifungal activity was found to be stable after heat ($121^{\circ}C$, 15 min) and proteolytic enzyme treatment, but it was unstable over pH 5.0. The antifungal compound(s) was estimated to have a low molecular mass (below 3,000 Da).
1) Many bacterial strains identified as Bacillus megeterium, Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis were aboundantly found in summer jokal kimchi, but the most dominant strains in summer kimchi were Lactobacillus plantarum and Loctobacllus buchneri. 2) Bacillus groups found in kimchi were sensitive in a low concentration of AF-2, but groups of lactic acid bacteria were resistant to a high concentration of AF-2. 3) Allowable concentration of AF-2 in Korean kimchi is less than 10 p.p.m. 4) AF-2 was not suitable for the juicy kimchi as a preservative because the color of juicy kimchi was somewhat changed into orange red when 10 p.p.m. of AF-2 was added. 5) High concentration of AF-2 leads the hetero-fermentation of kimchi bacteria to the homofermentation. 6) Microflora of kimchi was influenced even in the concentration of 10 p.p.m. but it was impossible to check the acidification of kimchi in summer with 50 p.p.m. concentration of AF-2. 7) About 25% of AF-2 was consumed in kimchi fermentation for day at $23^{\circ}-25^{\circ}C$.

In the course of search antagonistic fungi from soil in green house, four kind of fungi (AF1, AF2, AF3, AF4) were isolated, which have activities against Phytophthora capsici, Botrytis cinera, Rhizoctonia solani, Pythium ultimum and Fusarium oxysporum. The AF2 was identified according to the morphological description of Aspergillus terreus. This antagonistic fungus inhibiting various plant pathogens was effective to reduce disease incidence of cucumber seedlings caused by mixed inoculum of Rhizoctonia solani, Pythium ultimum and Fusarium oxysporum. Antifungal compound I was isolated and purified by fresh chromatography from A. terreus. The $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ assignment of compound I was achieved from two-dimensional $^1H-^1H\;COSY$, HMQC, HMBC with the add of homonuclear and heteronuclear double resonance experiment. The compound I was identified butyrolactone I (${\alpha}$-oxo-${\beta}$-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-${\gamma}$-(p-hydroxy-m-3,3-dimethyl-allylbenzyl)-${\gamma}$-methoxycarbonyl-${\gamma}$-butyrolactone, $C_{24}H_{24}O_7$, M.W.=424).
Changes in glutamatergic nervous activities following intracerebroventricular (icv) administration of ethylcholine aziridinium (AF64A) were studied in rats. The levels of total glutamate, those of glutamate in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and in extracellular fluid (ECF) of striatum, the activities of glutamine synthetase (GS), glutaminase and glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) and the specific binding sites of $[^3H]$MK801 in striatum, hippocampus and frontal cortex were assessed a week after the infusion of AF64A (3 nmol) into lateral ventricle. The levels of total glutamate were significantly decreased in striatum, hippocampus and frontal cortex after AF64A treatment. Although the levels of glutamate in CSF weren't changed after AF64A treatment, the levels of glutamate in ECF of striatum were significantly decreased (62.6%). GS activities in striatum were significantly decreased. But, glutaminase activities in striatum were significantly increased. However, the activities of GS and glutaminase in frontal cortex and hippocampus weren't changed. Although GDH activities in frontal cortex were significantly decreased, those in striatum and hippocampus weren't altered. The striatal densities of $[^3H]$MK 801 binding sites were increased without changes in its affinity. Also, the specific binding sites of $[^3H]$MK801 were increased in frontal cortex but not in hippocampus. These results indicate that the glutamatergic nervous activities were altered with the infusion of AF64A into lateral ventricle. Furthermore, it suggest that the decreased levels of glutamate after AF64A treatment may affect the change in the other parameters of glutamatergic neuronal activities.
