  • This paper proposes a method of h-type adaptive mesh generation for the finite element analysis of two dimensional elasticity problem. The error energy norm of a posteriori error estimation is difined based on the complementary energy of each element. Computer codes are developed and some examples are investigated. It is shown that the approach to the optimized mesh in this paper is effective and useful.

  • Due to the powerful correcting performance, turbo codes have been adopted in many communication standards such as W-CDMA(Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), CDMA2000, etc., and implemented by hardware in many kind of fields. Although several hardware structures and improved algorithm have been proposed, these problems such as hardware area, operating speed and power consumption are still a major issue to be solved in practical implementations. In this paper, we designed the turbo-code decoder using MAX -SCALE operation derived from the posterior probability optimization. The proposed circuit has been measured their performance on Matlab and MaxPlusII and implemented on the FPGA As a result, when implementing the proposed algorithm on the FPGA, this circuit only occupies 616 logic elements. And comparing the performance with the MAP(Maxirnum a Posteriori) decoding algorithm, the operating speed was increased by about 40%(56.48MHz) and BER(Bit Error Rate) was increased by 6.12.

  • The most important work for early detection of liver cancer and decision of its characteristic and location is good segmentation of a liver region from other abdominal organs. This paper proposes a fully automatic liver segmentation algorithm based on the abdominal morphology characteristic as an easy and efficient method. Multi-modal threshold as pre-processing is peformed and a spine is segmented for finding morphological coordinates of an abdomen. Then the liver region is extracted using C-class maximum a posteriori (MAP) decision and morphological filtering. In order to estimate results of the automatic segmented liver region, area error rate (AER) and correlation coefficients of rotational binary region projection matching (RBRPM) are utilized. Experimental results showed automatic liver segmentation obtained by the proposed algorithm provided strong similarity to manual liver segmentation.

  • The objective of numerical analysis is to devise and analyze efficient algorithms or numerical methods for equations arising in mathematical modeling for science and engineering. In this article, we present some recent topics in computational mathematics, specially in the finite element method and overview the development of the mixed finite element method in the context of second order elliptic and parabolic problems. Multiscale methods such as MsFEM, HMM, and VMsM are included.

  • A novel boundary stress resolution method is suggested in this paper, which is based upon the displacements of finite element analysis and of high precision with stress boundary condition strictly satisfied. The method is used to modify the Zienkiewicz-Zhu ($Z^2$) a posteriori error estimator and for the h-version adaptive finite element analysis of crack problems. Successful results are obtained.

  • In digital mobile communication system, the transmission errors affect the quality of output speech seriously. There are many error concealment techniques using a posteriori probability which provides information about any transmitted parameter. They need knowledge about channel transition probability as well as the 1st order Markov transition probability of codec parameters for estimation of transmitted parameters. However, in applications of mobile communication systems, the channel transition probability varies depending on nonstationary channel characteristics. The mismatch of designed channel transition probability of the estimator to actual channel transition probability degrades the performance of the estimator. In this paper, we proposed a new parameter estimator which adapts to the channel characteristics using short time average of maximum a posteriori probabilities(MAPs). The proposed scheme, when applied to the LSP parameter estimation, performed better than the conventional estimator which do not adapt to the channel characteristics.

  • In this paper, to have a better a posteriori error bound of the average case error between the true value of I(f) and the Trapezoidal rule on subintervals using zero mean-Gaussian, we prove that a new average error between the difference of the true value of I(f) from the composite Trapezoidal rule and that of the composite Trapezoidal rule from the simple Trapezoidal rule is bounded by $c_rH^{2r+3}$ through direct computation of constants $c_r$ for r ${\leq}$ 2 under the assumption that we have subintervals (for simplicity equal length h) partitioning [0, 1].

  • Since error compensation schemes guaranteeing high reliability are required in wireless communication systems for the transmission of the large amount of data, as an efficient error compensation scheme the turbo HARQ scheme combining automatic repeat request and turbo coding has been studied in many places in the literature. In the case of conventional turbo HARQ schemes, the transmitter recognizing NAK signals repetitively sends the whole unit packet to the receiver although the received packet can be partially correctable. Through two successive processes, selection of uncorrectable error data and retransmission of only the relevant parts of the information data, transmission efficiency can be improved. In this paper, we present an error data selection criterion for retransmission using the sign transitions of A Posteriori values and propose a tubo HARQ scheme based on the partial retransmission technique. Through a computer simulation, we show and analyze the performance of the proposed scheme with transmission efficiency.
