  • This study was done as a pilot study to develop a color test measuring children's dental anxiety. The subjects of study were 511 preschool children aged from 3 to 6. Caries experience was examined. Children's drawings of the dentist were collected and analyzed by the method of human figure drawing test modified by Sonnenberg and Venham. Colors of high dental anxiety level were black, brown, purple, red, yellow, pink, green, orange, blue, gray, yellow ochre, and white in that order. Colors of high frequency of use were yellow ochre, green, blue, red, orange, pink, black & purple, yellow, brown, gray, and white in that order. As the age increased, white & gray, yellow ochre, and blue increased and black, purple, and pink decreased. Boys liked green and blue, and girls liked orange and yellow. Filled teeth rate was highest in yellow ochre group and very low in black group. Children who had an educational dental visit before the test used green color more than the rest of children.

  • The purpose of the study was to observe the association between the main colors of school children's drawings of dental treatment situation and their dental anxiety. The subjects of study were 688 school children from 2nd to 4th grade. Caries experience was investigated by oral examination. Questionnaire survey was done regarding children's attitude toward the dentist and dental treatment and their experience of pain and fear during the dental treatment. Colors with high frequency of use were green, blue, yellow, orange, pink, purple, gray, brown, yellow ochre, red, white, and black in order. Boys used green and blue, and girls used yellow and orange, more than each other. As the grade increased, white, yellow, and blue increased and brown decreased. Colors with high dental anxiety level were black, brown, red, white, blue, orange, yellow and green, yellow ochre, gray, pink, and purple in order, and the upper four represented 10.5% of the subjects. Children with high decayed teeth rate had a tendency to use colors of high dental anxiety level. Black color had the most obvious association with the pain and fear of dental treatment.

황토팩 제품의 규격 (Standard of Hwangtoh Pack Product)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate main ingredients of Hwangtoh (Korean yellow ochre), especially ferric oxide $(Fe_{2}O_{3})$ content. In this study, X-ray fluorescence spectrophotometry was employed to analyze the ingredients of Hwangtoh. The ferric oxide $(Fe_{2}O_{3})$ contents of Hwangtoh from Hwa Sun, Ham An, Chil Gok, Sun Chun, Ha Dong, San Chung, Go Chang, Kim Che and Jeong Eup were 1.5, 5.66, 11.76, 6.63, 2.74, 11.4, 4.84, 7.21 and 6.23%, respectively. Based on the above results, any Hwangtoh sample didn't meet the ferric oxide $(Fe_{2}O_{3})$ content criterion.

A Characteristic Analysis on Clay Pigments of Mural Paintings in Sri Lanka

  • Sri Lanka has four types of mural painting styles; Classic, Late Classic, Kandyan, and Southern styles, but there is little research on scientific analysis for mural paintings. In this study, we analyze white, yellow, and red clay pigments which were collected from ancient producing sites. Analyzing pigment samples shows that samples are containing aluminum oxide(Al2O3) and silicon dioxide(SiO2) which are connected to the soil. And a degree of iron oxidation determines yellow or red colors. To understand the characteristics of clay pigment samples, we go over previous pigment analyses of mural paintings in Sri Lanka. Kaolin is identified after the 17th century, yellow and red ochre are applied in early periods, Classic and Late Classic styles. The change in raw materials of pigments occurred in the 17th century.

  • 점버섯목의 점버섯속은 자낭각을 지닌 노란색이나 탁한 황토색의 자좌를 형성하며, 각진 입방형의 자낭포자를 지닌다. 열대지역인 말레이지아에서 발견된 Hypocrea microufa를 형태적으로 유사한 H. rufa, H. microsplendens와 비교하여 동정하였다. 본 H. microrufa는 열대지방에서는 최초로 발견 기록되며, 또한 전자현미경을 이용한 최초의 보고이다. 전자현미경을 이용한 자낭포자의 표면무늬도 검색표의 주된 분류 동정기준으로 사용하였다.

뉴욕시 초고층주거 외장재 연구 (A study on the Exterior materials of Super High Rise Housing in New York City)

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate the exterior materials of super high-rise housing more than 30 stories which were built in New York City between 1924 and 2004. The result of examining 153 buildings was as follows; Exterior materials of super high-rise housing which were used bricks, of the salt-glazed bricks, terra-cotta and ceramic tiles, jumbo bricks and bricks were preferred among them. The colour of bricks was yellow, yellow ochre, clear brown, brown, dark brown, orange, vermilion and red. Exterior materials of super high-rise hotel and hotel apartment were bricks and ceramic tiles in the early days but stones, curtain wall and glass(green glass, green-tinted glass, brown-tinted glass, black glass) after 1980s. The main colour of buildings extended gray, green, blue-tinted brown-tinted and black.

정색반응(呈色反應)에 의(依)한 싸리속(屬)의 분류학적(分類學的) 연구(硏究) (Taxonomic Study of the Genus Lespedeza by Means for Colour Reactions)

  • 화학약품(化學藥品)에 의(依)한 목재(木材)의 정색반응(呈色反應)을 이용(利用)하여 지피조성용(地被造成用), 사료자원, 밀원자원, 공예자원, 및 섬유자원으로서 중요시 되고 있는 우리나라의 싸리 속(屬) 중에서 다음 7 수종(樹種)에 대한 분류상(分類上)의 식별점(識別點)을 조사(調査)하였다. (1) Lespedeza bicolor Turcz 싸리 (2) Lespedeza bicolor var. melanantha(Nak.) T. Bacillus brevis 로 제조한 된장의 품질 (The Quality of Doenjang (Soybean Paste) Manufactured with Bacillus brevis)

  • We investigated the quality of soybean paste(Doenjang) fermented by BAcillus brevis. The results obtained were as follows : soybean paste fermented by Bacillus brevis had alkaline pH and yellow ochre color. Dextrinizing activity was about 98 D.P. unit from 5th to 25th day of fermentation at 3$0^{\circ}C$ and after that day somewhat decreased . Saccharifying activity was respectively 6.1, 7.2, 6.8, 6.4 S.P. unit on 5, 15, 25 and 35th day of fermentation. Protease activity suddenly increased after 15th day of fermentation and was 250, 275, 299 unit on15, 25, 35 th day of fermentation , respectively. The most abundant free amino acid was found to be glutamic acid (561.8mg%) in soybean paste fermented by Bacillus brevis. In case of free sugar and non-volatile organic acid, fructose and oxalic acid showed highest content of 10.25mg% on 25th day and 12.20mg% on 15th day. The contents of free amino acids, free sugars, organic acids in soybean paste fermented by B.brevis were most abundant after 25 days of fermentation and this results were similar to that of traditional soybean paste. The odor of soybean paste fermented by Bacillus brevis was improved to be a nice soybean paste odor on 25th day of fermentation. However, sensory evaluation value of the taste of it decreased after 10 th day of fermentation.

황토의 일반적 특성 및 산화철 함량 (General Properties and Ferric Oxide Content of Hwangtoh(Yellow Ochre))

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the general properties and main ingridients of Hwangtoh, which is the Korean loess. It is well known as a raw material of pottery shown to be widely scattered on the earth, especially in Korea. It belongs to primary clay that was found to be rich on mountain surface or field. In this study, XRF Spectral method was employed to analyze the chief ingredients of Hwangtoh, being found to consist of $43{\sim}50%\;SiO_2,\;2{\sim}34%\;Al_2O_3,\;2{\sim}3%\;Mg,\;2{\sim}3%\;Na\;and\;1{\sim}2%\;K$. The ferric oxide contents of Hwangtoh from San Chung, Ha Dong, Ko Ryung, Ouk Chong, Bang Gae and Song Kwang were 6.46, 7.96, 11.26, 9.36, 9.06 and 9.28 %, respectively. The general characteristics of Hwangtoh from different places were studied by determining the content of water and the capacity to maintain temperature. Based on the above results, Hwangtoh could be said to have better quality than primary clay of Kaolin dose, and also would be able to find an application in construction formulations.

봉정사 영산회괘불도 화기에 기록된 안료명에 대한 고찰 (A Consideration of Pigments name on Ceremonial writing of Youngsan Ritual Ceremony Buddhist Painting, BongJeongsa)

  • 이 연구에서는 안동 봉정사 영산회괘불도에 대한 비파괴성분 분석과 현미경 관찰을 통해 괘불에 채색된 안료의 화학적 성분 및 채색 기법을 해석하였고 이를 바탕으로 괘불의 화기에 명시되어 있는 채색 재료의 명칭에 대한 화학적 특성을 규명하였다. 백색 안료는 연백, 황색 안료는 석황, 유기염료, 적색 안료는 진사/주, 연단, 대자, 적색 염료을 사용하였으며, 녹색 안료는 석록 또는 녹염동광, 청색 안료는 석청, 쪽, 흑색은 먹을 사용한 것으로 추정된다. 화기에 명시된 안료 이름은 주홍, 중청, 하엽, 황단, 황금 등으로 주홍은 진사(천연) 또는 주(인공), 중청은 석청, 하엽은 석록 또은 녹염동광, 황단은 석황, 황금은 금박인 것을 확인하였다.
