Development of a truncation artifact reduction method in stationary inverse-geometry X-ray laminography for non-destructive testing

  • In an industrial field, non-destructive testing (NDT) is commonly used to inspect industrial products. Among NDT methods using radiation sources, X-ray laminography has several advantages, such as high depth resolution and low computational costs. Moreover, an X-ray laminography system with stationary source array and compact detector is able to reduce mechanical motion artifacts and improve inspection efficiency. However, this system, called stationary inverse-geometry X-ray laminography (s-IGXL), causes truncation artifacts in reconstructed images due to limited fields-of-view (FOVs). In this study, we proposed a projection data correction (PDC) method to reduce the truncation artifacts arisen in s-IGXL images, and the performance of the proposed method was evaluated with the different number of focal spots in terms of quantitative accuracy. Comparing with conventional techniques, the PDC method showed superior performance in reducing truncation artifacts and improved the quantitative accuracy of s-IGXL images for all the number of focal spots. In conclusion, the PDC method can improve the accuracy of s-IGXL images and allow precise NDT measurements.

스테레오 X-선 검색장치를 이용한 3차원 정보 가시화에 관한 연구 (The Geometric Modeling for 3D Information of X-ray Inspection)

  • In this study, using X-ray cargo container scanning device and to differentiate the concept of three-dimensional information extraction applied for X-ray scanning device as an ingredient in the rotation of the X-Ray Linear Pushbroom Stereo System by introducing the geometric How to model was introduced. Three-dimensional information obtained through the matching of a single voxel space filled with a random vector operations for each voxel in the three dimensional shape reconstruction algorithm using the definition, and in time, the time required for each step were analyzed. Using OpenCV in each step by applying parallelization techniques approximately 1.8 times improvement in the processing time of the check, but do not meet the target within one minute levels.   • To diagnose the vascular diseases from the viewpoint of hemodynamics, we need detailed quantitative hemodynamic information of related blood flows with a high spatial resolution of tens micrometer and a high temporal resolution in the order of millisecond. For investigating in-vivo hemodynamic phenomena of vascular circulatory diseases, a new diagnosing technique combining a medical radiography and PIV method was newly developed. This technique called 'Angiographic PIV system' consists of a medical X-ray tube, an X-ray CCD camera, a shutter module for generating double pulse-type X-ray, and a synchronizer. Through several preliminary tests, the feasibility of the Angiographic PIV technique was verified. For in-vivo applications to real blood flows, we developed tracer microcapsules, which were optimized to this system, made of a contrast material of iodine and a matrix material of PVA (polyvinylpyrrolidone). In near future, the Angiographic PIV technique will be used for understanding hemodynamic phenomena of vascular diseases and for their early detection.

X-선 비례계수관용 상승시간 선별회로 제작 (DESIGN OF A RISE TIME DISCRIMINATION CIRCUIT FOR X-RAY PROPORTIONAL COUNTER)

  • 비례계수관에서 생성되는 신호의 상승시간을 비교하여 X-선과 비 X-선 신호를 구분하는것이 가능하다. 과학로케트 탑재형 비례계수관에 응용하여 백그라운드를 제거하기 위한 간단한 상승시간 선별회로를 개발하였다. 제작된 전체 회로는 상승시간 측정회로, 측정된 시간을 진폭으로 변환시켜주는 시간-진폭 변환회로로 구성되며, 시산 대 진폭을 검교정할 수 있는 회로를 부가하였다. 제작된 회로를 X-선 검출 시스템에 적용한 결과 2~12 keV에너지 범위에서 전반적인 백그라운드 제거율을 80% 이상 얻을 수 있었으며, 약 12 keV 이상의 높은 에너지내에서는 상승시간 선별법을 사용하기 어려운 제한성을 확인하였다.

X-선 영상 시스템의 정밀 캘리브레이션 기법 (An Accurate Calibration Technique for X ray Imaging System)

  • This paper presents an accurate algorithm for geometric calibration of X-ray imaging system. Calibration is a very important process for improving an imaging system performance. There has been a lot of previous works using linear camera modeling technique, where lens distortion is neglected and/or center of distortion is assumed to be known. Geometrical distortion of image intensifier, however, is very large and its center of distortion should be calculated. This paper presents a new calibration method to estimate the intensifier position and orientation, scale factor, distortion coefficient, magnification factor, and center of distortion using the least square method. We investigate the properties of the algorithm by computer simulation. Simulation results show that the parameters can be estimated accurately using the proposed algorithm.

  • X선은 강한 투과성과 직진성으로 인하여 비파괴 검사법으로써 다양한 분야에서 활용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 고건축물과 같은 목조 건축물에 사용되고 있는 구조부재의 열화를 현장에서 탐지할 수 있는 비파괴 검사법을 개발할 목적으로 X선 CT시스템의 적용가능성을 검토하였다. 먼저 이전 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 CT영상을 구성하는 체계를 확립하고, 얻어진 CT영상을 실제 부재의 단면 형태와 비교함으로써 개발된 시스템의 적용가능성을 확인하였다. 개발된 X선 CT시스템의 적용을 통해 결함의 형태와 크기, 위치뿐만 아니라 결함에서의 밀도 또한 비교적 정확하게 탐지할 수 있음이 확인되었다. 이러한 결과는 건축물에서 사용되고 있는 목재 부재에 열화가 발생하였을 경우에, 열화 발생의 원인을 파악하고 그에 따른 효과적인 대처방안을 수립하는데 있어서 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 그러나 현재의 시스템은 개발 초기단계로 측정에 따른 소요시간이나 측정회수, 측정 정밀도에 있어서 여러 제약을 받는다. 따라서 이러한 제약을 극복하기 위한 추가적인 연구가 요구된다.

  • We introduce an x-ray micro tomography system capable of high resolution imaging of a local region inside a small animal. By combining two kinds of projection data, one from a full field-of-view (FOV) scan of the whole body and the other from a limited FOV scan of the region of interest, we have obtained zoomed-in images of the region of interest without any contrast a nomalies. We have integrated a micro tomography system using a micro-focus x-ray source, a $1248\times1248$ flat-panel x-ray detector, and a precision scan mechanism. Using the cross-sectional images taken with the zoom-in micro tomography system, we measured trabecular thicknesses of femur bones in postmortem rats. To compensate the limited spatial resolution in the zoom-in micro tomography images, we used the fuzzy distance transform for the calculation of the trabecular thickness. To validate the trabecular thickness measurement with the zoom-in micro tomography images, we compared the measurement results with the ones obtained from the conventional micro tomography images of the extracted bone samples.

일반촬영을 위한 셀레늄 기반의 엑스선 검출기 시스템 (System of a Selenium Based X-ray Detector for Radiography)

  • Amorphous selenium based flat panel detectors convert incident x-ray to electric signal directly. Flat panel detectors gain more interest real time medical x-ray imaging. TFT array and electric readout circuits are used in this paper offered by LG.Philips.LCD. Detector is based on a $1536{\times}1280$ array of a-Si TFT pixels. X-ray conversion layer(a-Se) is deposited upper TFT array with a $400{\mu}m$ by thermal deposition technology. Thickness uniformity of this layer is made of thickness control system technology$({\leq}5%)$. Each $139{\mu}m{\times}139{\mu}m$ pixel is made of thin film transistor technology, a storage capacitor and collecting electrode having geometrical fill factor of 86%. This system show dynamic performance. Imaging performance is suited for digital radiography imaging substitute by conventional radiography film system.

해부학적 계측점을 이용한 PC-기반3차원 치과수술 시스템 (3-Dimensional Dental Surgery System based on PC using anatomical landmarks)

  • 본 논문에서는 PC기반의 치과 수술 시스템을 설계하였다. 이 시스템은 수술 후의 3차원 영상을 예측할 수 있다. 따라서 환자는 수술 후에 CT를 다시 촬영하지 않아도 되며 방사선에 노출시킬 필용가 없다. 수술 전, 후의 두부(Cephalometry) X-ray 정보와 수술 전의 CT 데이터로부터 수술 후의 환자의 두개골을 예측한다. X-ray 필름과 수술 전의 CT를 해부학적 불변 계측점(anatomical landmarks) 방법을 기반으로 한 특이값 분해(SVD: singular value decomposition) 로 레지스트레이션(registration)을 하였으며, 이를 표면 재구성 영상화 시스템으로 설계하였다. 설계된 시스템의 유용성을 검증하기 위하여 건조 두개골 모델 실험과 실제 임상환자에 대한 임상실험을 시행하였으며 유의수준 0.05에서 유의차가 없는 것으로 나타났다.

  • We developed a digital x-ray medical imaging system using commercially available amorphous silicon image sensor plate. The image readout could be accomplished within 3.5 sec after radiation exposure and be displayed on a monitor through computer interface. This system needs not the conventional x-ray films and film processors, and also provides digital radiographic images. This system is the fastest digital radiography system developed so far, and expected to replace many of the conventional x-ray film systems or digital radiography systems.
