This paper describes a multi-physics analysis of a high resolution winding type resolver and rotary transformer using FEM (Finite Element Method). The rotary transformer boosts the input voltage to a high voltage which can be input into the rotor windings of the resolver. Through multi-physics models of the transformer and resolver, the characteristics of the output signals for the resolver system with high resolution can be derived. Moreover, the circuit model of the interface part between the transformer and resolver should be considered, because of the calculation of the input current to the resolver. The winding type resolver is composed of 32x and 1x stator windings for high resolution. Then, the output signals of the stator windings, which make sinusoidal SIN and COS waves with a $90^{\circ}$ phase difference, are verified.

The non-pathogenic, non-glycopeptide-producing actinomycete Streptomyces coelicolor carries a cluster of seven genes (vanSRJKHAX) that confers inducible, high-level resistance to vancomycin. The van genes are organised into four transcription units, vanRS, vanJ, vanK and vanHAX, and these transcripts are induced by vancomycin in a vanR-dependent manner. vanHAX are orthologuous to genes found in vancomycin resistant enterococci that encode enzymes predicted to reprogramme peptidoglycan biosynthesis such that cell wall precursors terminate in D-Ala-D-Lac, rather than D-Ala-D-Ala. vanR and vanS encode a two-component signal transduction system that mediates transcriptional induction of the seven van genes. vanJ and vanK are novel genes that have no counterpart in previously characterised vancomycin-resistance clusters from pathogens. VanK is essential for vancomycin resistance in S. coelicolor and it is required for adding Gly branch to stem peptides terminating D-Ala-D-Lac. Because VanK can recognise D-Lac-containing precursors but the constitutively expressed femX enzyme, encoded elsewhere on the chromosome, cannot recognize D-Lac-containing precursors as a substrate, vancomycin-induced expression of VanHAX in a vanK mutant is lethal. Further, femX null mutants are viable in the presence of glycopeptide antibiotics but die in their absence. Bioassay using vanJp-neo fusion reporter system also showed that all identified inducers for van genes expression were glycopeptide antibiotics, but teicoplanin, a membrane-anchored glycopeptide, failed to act as an inducer.

Beam-column joints play a significant role in static and dynamic performances of reinforced concrete frame structures. This study contributes a numerical approach of topologically optimal design of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) to retrofit existing beam-column connections with crack patterns. In recent, CFRP is used commonly in the rehabilitation and strengthening of concrete members due to the remarkable properties, such as lightweight, anti-corrosion and simplicity to execute construction. With the target to provide an optimal CFRP configuration to effectively retrofit the beam-column connection under semi-failure situation such as given cracks, extended finite element method (X-FEM) is used by combining with multi-material topology optimization (MTO) as a mechanical description approach for strong discontinuity state to mechanically model cracked structures. The well founded mathematical formulation of topology optimization problem for cracked structures by using multiple materials is described in detail in this study. In addition, moved and regularized Heaviside functions (MRHF), that have the role of a filter in multiple materials case, is also considered. The numerical example results illustrated in two cases of beam-column joints with stationary cracks verify the validity, benefit and supremacy of the proposed method.

To improve the shock-resistance of piezoresistive high-g accelerometer, we propose a design of piezoresistive high-g accelerometer. The accelerometer employs special-shaped proof masses system with a cross gap. Four tiny sensing beams are bonded above the cross gap. The expression of the deformation, natural frequency and damping is deduced, and the structural parameters are optimized. The accelerometer structure is simulated and verified by finite element method (FEM) simulation. The results show that the range of the accelerometer can reach 200,000 g, the natural frequency is 453.6 kHz, and the cross-axis sensitivity of X-axis and Y-axis is 0.25% and 0.11%, respectively, which can apply to the measurement of high shock. Contrastively, the cross-axis sensitivity of X-axis and Y-axis is respectively, reduced by 93.2% and 96.9%. The sensitivity of our accelerometer is 0.88 μV/g. It is of great value for the application of piezoresistive high-g accelerometer with high shock-resistance.
Internal and external corrosion are common in pressure pipes used in a variety of industries, often resulting in defects that compromise their integrity. This economically and industrially significant problem calls for both preventive and curative technical solutions to guarantee the reliability of these structures. With this in mind, our study focuses on the influence of composite and metallic patch repairs on the limit loads of pipes, particularly elbows, the critical component of piping systems. To this end, we used the nonlinear extended finite element method (X-FEM) to study elbows, a priori corroded on the internal surface of the extrados section, then repaired with composite and metallic patches. In addition, the effect of the geometry of composite materials and metal patches was examined, in particular the effect of their thickness and material on the increase in limit loads of repaired structures. The results obtained provide information on the effectiveness and optimization of patch repair of corroded elbows, with the aim of increasing their service life.

The thesis is established on the basis of model tests on the central core dam. With variations in the upstream water level, the quantity of seepage in the downstream boundaries were obtained for each specific water level. Seepage alignment and equipotential lines to these occasions were also researched and measured. By making use of the resulting data from the experiment, the flow velocities and seepage quantity computed to the flow rate of each element of flownets by the Finite Element Method was compared with the values produced by experiments and approximate theoretical formula. Further to this, transitions of water level related thereto was also examined in the thesis. During the high water level, seepages shown by the experiment were larger than that of the F.E.M. Meanwhile, the in-between differences were found to be quite small during the low water level. In the flow rate of each element with which the flow-nets are constructed, flow velocities of the X and Z axis were faster on account of the variations in water level. Flow velocities of the Y axis were extremely small enough to be disregarded.

In order to examine the effect of beam location n the performance of bridge type piozoresistive silicon accelerometer, three sensors having different location of beams were simulated by FEN(finite element method) and fabricated by RIE(reactive ion etching) and KOH etching method using SDB(silicon direct bonding) wafer, Results of the FEM simulation present that the 1st resonace frequency and Z axis sensitivity of each sensor are identical but the 2nd, and the 3rd resonace frequency and X, Y axis sensitivity are different. Even though the 1st resonance frequency and Z axis sensitivity measured from fabricated sensors do not perfectly coincide with each other, all 3 type sensors present 180 ~ 220N/G of Z sensitivity at 5 V supply voltage and 1.3 ~ 1.7kHz of the 1st resonance frequency and about 2% of lateral sensitivity.
In this paper, the displacement behavior characteristic of hollow rollers with various cross sectional area profiles and circular plate for load supporting capacity increment has been presented using a finite element method. The FEM results present that the hollow roller with X-shaped or Y-shaped columns between outer tube, middle tube and inner tube reduces a maximum displacement at the middle length of hollow rollers. And the circular plate, which is inserted at the middle of the hollow roller, is very useful to reduce the maximum displacement of hollow rollers with the plate thickness of 30~40mm. This paper presents the weight vs the maximum displacement ratio in which is represented for the optimized design as a function of a hollow roller total weight. The FEM analyzed results recommend the design model 4, 5 and 6 of hollow rollers for decreasing the ratio of maximum displacement and total weight of hollow rollers.
Bi-directional pile load test (briefly called 'BDH PLT') cannot be performed at loading levels where ultimate bearing capacity could be assessed in field, it is not possible to precisely determine both ultimate load and yield load and under loading. Since the load is transmitted separately to the skin and the end unlike the static pile load test (briefly called 'SPLT') and the direction of loading on the skin is opposite, such methods could have a result different from actual movements of shafts. In this study, three-dimensional finite element method (briefly called '3D FEM') analysis was conducted from results of the BDH PLT, made with barret piles, which were large-diameter cast-in-place concrete piles, and the calculated design constants were applied to the 3D FEM analysis of the SPLT to interpret them numerically and then, actual behaviors of cast-in-place concrete piles were estimated. First, using the results of the BDH PLT with cast-in-place concrete piles, behaviors of the piles made by loading upwards and downwards were analyzed to calculate load-displacement. Second, the design constants, calculated by the 3D FEM analysis and the back analysis, were applied on the 3D FEM analysis for the SPLT, and from these results, behaviors of the SPLT through the BDH PLT was analyzed. Last, the results of the 3D FEM analysis of the SPLT through the BDH PLT was expressed in relationships as {A ratio of bearing capacity of the SPLT and of the BDH PLT (y)} ~ {A ratio of reference displacement and pile circumference (x)}, and they were all classified by reference displacement at 10.0 mm, 15.0 mm, and 25.4 mm.

As a result of vehicle maintenance of rocker arm shaft for 4-cylinder SOHC engine, failure stress analysis of rocker arm shaft is needed. Because more than 30% of vehicles investigated have been fractured. Failure stress analysis is classified into an naked eyes, microscope, striation and X-ray fractography etc. Failure stress analysis by using striation is already established technology as means for seeking cause of fracture. But, although it is well known that striation spacing corresponds to the crack growth rate da/dN, it is not possible to determine ${\sigma}_{max}\;and\;{\sigma}_{min}$ under service loading only from striation spacing. This is because the value of striation spacing is influenced not only by ${\Delta}K$ but also by the stress ratio R. In the present paper, we determine the stress ratio using orthogonal array and ANOVA, and propose a prediction method of failure stress which is combined with FEM and striation.
