  • This study aims to identify factors of life satisfaction of the adults with developmental disabilities, focusing on the comparison between young and old. Data are collected through in-depth interview of the adults with developmental disabilities as well as via workers proxy responses at the group home. Regression model analysis is conducted based on 387 cases. The result shows that the young adults with developmental disabilities are more likely to satisfied with life when they evaluate job performance of workers at the group home and when they are more actively involved in community activities. For the old adults with developmental disabilities, life satisfaction is positively associated with their evaluation of job performance of workers at the group home as in the young adults. In addition, life satisfaction of the old adults is higher when they feel less fatigue. It is also higher for those with more choices on residence and higher level of social activities. The findings reveals that enhancement of life satisfaction for the old adults with developmental disabilities dwelling at group home require supports and services for health and social activities different from other ages. It shares the general ideas that service efforts should be made for needs and desires of the recipients. The present study suggests to expand our research interests to include the disabled in danger of early aging, such as the persons with Down Syndrome and the persons with intellectual disability and cerebral palsy, and look into their particular needs.

  • This research aimed to examine the problems in a current national emergency management system that does not consider the disabled in the face of manmade catastrophes and natural disasters, and to conduct an expert opinion survey to explore the direction of disabled-inclusive public disaster management system. As a result of the analysis, the respondents of the survey revealed a need for a designated government department for disaster management systems for the disabled and the experts preferred the Ministry of Public Safety and Security (50%) than the Ministry of Health and Welfare (37.5%). However, 12.5% of the surveyed experts perceived cooperation between the two Ministries, rather than selecting a certain ministry, as necessary to establish a disaster management system for the disabled. Additionally, the experts recognized the response period (43.8%) of the disaster management life cycle to be the most important phase. Thus, at the disaster response period, the experts suggested utilizing an emergency alarm system to effectively rescue the disabled in the face of disaster. Based on this discussion, the paper explores ways to establish a disabled-inclusive public disaster management system.

  • This research aims to examine whether depression has mediating effects in the effects of socioeconomic deprivation, especially of lower variables of socioeconomic deprivation on life satisfaction of the elderly. For this purpose, the 12th year(2017) data of the Korea Welfare Panel Study were used. The mediated effect analysis method of Baron and Kenny(1986) were used, and mediating effect of depression was validated through Sobel Test. The results of this research are as follows. Firstly, the lower variables of socioeconomic deprivation of the elderly -deprivation of housing, deprivation of dietary life, social deprivation, deprivation of employment, and deprivation of healthcare- had partial mediating effects of depression in life satisfaction. It was verified that as the elderly experienced deprivation of housing, deprivation of dietary life, social deprivation, deprivation of employment and deprivation of healthcare, depression increased and life satisfaction was lowered. Therefore, it was suggested that to enhance the living satisfactions of the elderly, policies and services reflecting the personal characteristics of socioeconomic deprivation and depression must be made, and that criteria to identify the multidimensional poverty and deprivation experienced in everyday life must be prepared in addition to poverty focusing on income.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate factors affecting the assessment of objective and subjective masticatory ability in the elderly, and to evaluate masticatory ability assessment more accurately. Methods: A total of 112 participants were recruited after oral examination in senior citizen welfare facilities. The participants' masticatory ability was evaluated objectively (Mixing ability index; MAI), and subjectively (Key food intake ability; KFIA). Participants' general characteristics and oral health-related variables were also recorded. Based on masticatory ability assessment, participants were classified as either high or low. IBM SPSS Statistics Ver.23.0 was used for all analyses, including descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test, Spearman rank correlation, and Logistic regression analysis. Results: Higher masticatory ability was positively correlated with higher scores on MAI and KFIA. Additionally, there was a significant positive correlation between MAI and KFIA. When analyzing factors affecting objective and subjective masticatory ability assessments, Functional tooth units (FTUs) were revealed as a related factor. In subjective masticatory ability assessment, oral moisture, difficulty in chewing, and the Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) were also influential factors. Conclusions: In order to accurately assess masticatory ability, it is necessary to use both objective and subjective measures. Additionally, to improve the masticatory ability in the elderly, treatment should be provided to improve overall oral health and satisfaction.

In particular, I would like to search the current status of in-service education, including on-line special job competency education, which is responsible for one of the pillars of in-service education, and present the problems and measures to improve them. Methods: To that end, the present study conducted an analysis of issues based on the previous research on in-service education of childcare teachers' education, and conducted a literature examination focusing on laws, policies, and foreign cases related to in-service education. Results: In-service education for childcare teachers was categorized into educational process diversification and professionalism, educational method diversification, qualification management, and educational support, which were again organized into 14 core tasks. In addition, as a recent phenomenon that has not been discussed in detail in the preceding study, the phenomenon of increased participation in on-line special job competency education at the site of in-service education was analyzed and the problems were presented. Conclusion/Implications: Based on the results of this study, I proposed development measures such as changing the term 'in-service education' and recognizing the diversity of job competency education, the credit rating banking system for job competency education, the provision of on-line job competency education curriculum (basic courses/enhancing courses) for collective education courses, the expansion of education support for promotion to a higher grade courses and the conversion of the mandatory evaluation system for in-service educational institutions.
