  • Many measures to detect multicollinearity in linear regression have been proposed in statistics and numerical analysis literature. Among them, condition number and variance inflation factor(VIF) are most popular. In this study, we give new interpretations of condition number and VIF in linear regression, using geometry on the explanatory space. In the same line, we derive natural measures of condition number and VIF for logistic regression. These computer intensive measures can be easily extended to evaluate multicollinearity in generalized linear models.

  • The purpose of the study was to develop the parenting style scale which is reflecting cultural background of Korean parent's parenting for their children. The instalment was designed based on the literature reviews and on the Baumrind's parenting style. A total of three hundred and sixty two mothers whose children from first and second grade in elementary school completed the Questionnaires. The questionnaires consisted with the items addressing different types of parenting style which include love and care, encouragement of independence, enjoyment in parenting, communication, control, control of aggressiveness, strategies of control , request of maturity. Factor of analysis was applied to examine validity of Korean parenting style scale. Based on the factor analysis, 33 items selected for final questionnaire and two factors discovered. The first factor which named 'warmth'included 20 items such as love and care toward their children, communication, enjoyment in parenting, encouragement toward independency. The second factor which named'control'included 13 items such as control of children's behavior and discipline of children. Warmth factor accounted for 46% of variance and control factor accounted for 18% of variance. Internal consistency was also checked. Although warmth and control factor represented a moderate internal consistency, control factor showed lower correlations then warmth factor. The reliability estimates (Cronbach alpha) were. 87 and 71 for warmth and control factor respectively. Korean parenting style scale can be used to address the appropriateness of Baumrind's theoretical assumptions in parenting style as well as to examine parenting style for Korean population. However, this instalment was developed with Korean mothers only. Further analysis need to be addressed with fathers.

  • During the last two decades, many industrial complexes for heavy and chemical industries have been established along the Korean coastline, thereby increasing the pollution materials burden on the coastal environment of seawater. Masan Bay is one of the most polluted coastal areas in Korea and the main soures of pollutants are domestic and industrial wastewater from Masan, Changwon. This study was aimed to evaluate relationships among the physicochemical parameters in the bottom water of Masan bay and to examine environmental factors affecting to pollutions of seawater by factor analysis. 'rife factor loading, 1 is showed higher increasing inclination after 1989 year in station 1. The variance of pollutant materials is showed 43.7% in which the coastal inflow water is indicated external loadings(factor 1 : NO3--N, TN, factor 4 : SiO2-Si) corresponded to domestic sewage, industrial wastewater, and earth-sands in the bottom water of Masan bay And the internal loadings(factor 2 : SS, salinity, factor 3 . W.T., DO) are explained 33.8%'corresponded the phenomena of sedimentary layer and oxygen concentration. Therefore, The external loadings are explained by the higher factor pollutantal variance in Masan bay.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with sanitation and cleanliness regarding the importance of family restaurant employees in the Ulsan and Busan areas. Accordingly, this study conducted a suey questionnaire consisting of 28 measures of food-service as well as major subject descriptors. From the results, the frequency, descriptive, factor, correspondence analysis, major findings and marketing implications could be summarized as follows: First, 6 factors were extracted: cooking and control factor, food and tableware handling factor, personal cleanliness condition factor, purchase and receiving factor, unit food material store factor and Kitchen utensil sanitation factor. KMO and Bartlett' stest statistics showed that the data fitted the factor analysis well. Results of factor analysis, average variance extracted estimates and shared variance showed that the convergent and discriminant validity of 6 factors are supported and Cronbach's alpha showed that the internal consistency of the 6 factors was supported. Second, correspondence analysis indicated that statistically significant relationships existed between some of the family restaurant employee sanitation and cleanliness factors and the family restaurant enterprise.

  • For the balanced variance component model, sometimes intraclass correlation coefficient is of interest. If there is little information about the parameter, then the reference prior(Berger and Bernardo, 1992) is widely used. Pettit nd Young(1990) considered a measrue of the effect of a single observation on a logarithmic Bayes factor. However, under such a reference prior, the Bayes factor depends on the ratio of unspecified constants. In order to discard this problem, influence diagnostic measures using the intrinsic Bayes factor(Berger and Pericchi, 1996) is presented. Finally, one simulated dataset is provided which illustrates the methodology with appropriate simulation based computational formulas. In order to overcome the difficult Bayesian computation, MCMC methods, such as Gibbs sampler(Gelfand and Smith, 1990) and Metropolis algorithm, are empolyed.

  • The purpose of this study was to classify and analyze the lower body of adult female and to provide it'stotal data for clothing construction. The subjects were 82 Korean adult females and their age range is from 19 to 24 years old. 42 variables (10 variables from the direct anthropometric data, 2 variables from the multiplication method and 30 variables from the indirect anthropometric data) in total were applies to analyze(means, standard deviations, factor analysis, cluster analysis) The result of factor analysis indicated that 10 factors were extract'cd through factor analysis and orthogonal rotation by the method of varimax and those factors comprise 82. 5 percent of total variance. The obesity of lower body was closely related to hip angle indicated the degree of drooping hip was extracted a independent factor, not influenced by other variance. And somatotype of lower body is classified by cluster analysis, using the FASTCLUS of SAS. To classify the lower body, two kinds of silhouette, front- back and side were applied to analize. The front- back silhouette was subdivided into five groups and the side silhouette four.

  • A simplified statistical methodology is developed in order to both reduce over-conservatism of deterministic methodologies employed for PWR fuel rod internal pressure (RIP) calculation and simplify the complicated calculation procedure of the widely used statistical methodology which employs the response surface method and Monte Carlo simulation. The simplified statistical methodology employs the system moment method with a deterministic approach in determining the maximum variance of RIP The maximum RIP variance is determined with the square sum of each maximum value of a mean RIP value times a RIP sensitivity factor for all input variables considered. This approach makes this simplified statistical methodology much more efficient in the routine reload core design analysis since it eliminates the numerous calculations required for the power history-dependent RIP variance determination. This simplified statistical methodology is shown to be more conservative in generating RIP distribution than the widely used statistical methodology. Comparison of the significances of each input variable to RIP indicates that fission gas release model is the most significant input variable.

  • The visual preference of interiors focusing on lobbies was investigated as a function of six predictor variable on the base of the Informational Approach: complexity, coherence, mystery, spaciousness, brightness, plant. The Common Fcator Analysis of preference ratings yielded six common factors which helped to account for 22.3 percent of the variance in preference response to the scene. Among these factors, the factor defined as 'bright with many plants' was the most preferred and the factor defined as 'simple and closed' was the least preferred. The environmental attributes reflected in six groups of scenes were colour, resting place, window and the six predictors. In the commercial building scenes, complexity, spaciousness, coherence, brightness and mystery out of six predictors accounted for 74 percent of preference variance as the significant contributors. In the business building scenes, three predictors which are brightness, complexity, spaciousness accounted for 84 percent of preference variance. 'The amount of plant' not only influenced the preference indirectly through the intervening variable, complexity, but also was moderately correlated with brightness. The overall pattern of the resulted confirmed the usefulness of the Informational Approach to predict the preference in interiors focusing on lobbies.
