  • In this paper, we propose a maximum entropy-based emotion recognition model using the individual average difference of emotional signal, because an emotional signal pattern depends on each individual. In order to accurately recognize a user's emotion, the proposed model utilizes the difference between the average of the input emotional signals and the average of each emotional state's signals(such as positive emotional signals and negative emotional signals), rather than only the given input signal. With the aim of easily constructing the emotion recognition model without the professional knowledge of the emotion recognition, it utilizes a maximum entropy model, one of the best-performed and well-known machine learning techniques. Considering that it is difficult to obtain enough training data based on the numerical value of emotional signal for machine learning, the proposed model substitutes two simple symbols such as +(positive number)/-(negative number) for every average difference value, and calculates the average of emotional signals per second rather than the total emotion response time(10 seconds).

  • The emotional interface is essential technology for the robot to provide the proper service to the user. In this research, we developed emotional components for the service robot such as a neural network based facial expression recognizer, emotion expression technologies based on 3D graphical face expression and joints movements, considering a user's reaction, behavior selection technology for emotion expression. We used our humanoid robots, AMI and AMIET as the test-beds of our emotional interface. We researched on the emotional interaction between a service robot and a user by integrating the developed technologies. Emotional interface technology for the service robot, enhance the performance of friendly interaction to the service robot, to increase the diversity of the service and the value-added of the robot for human. and it elevates the market growth and also contribute to the popularization of the robot. The emotional interface technology can enhance the performance of friendly interaction of the service robot. • This paper proposes an image retrieval system which integrates metadata, contents, and emotions in textile images. First, the proposed system searches images using metadata. Among searched images, the system retrieves similar images based on color histogram, color sketch, and emotion histogram. To extract emotion features, this paper uses emotion colors which was proposed on 160 emotion words by H. Nagumo. To enhance the user's convenience, the proposed textile image retrieval system provides additional functions as like enlarging an image, viewing color histogram, viewing color sketch, and viewing repeated patterns.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method of representing human emotions that are conveyed during conversations. In order to develop a robot that comes close to thinking, acting, and expressing like humans, many researches have been conducted. Among these researches, the proposed method is developed based upon 6 emotion identification systems. The proposed method first analyzes conversations between humans, decides an emotion on the basis of the analysis, and represents the emotion by an action, an image, and a sound. We implemented the proposed method using a hand-sized robot.

  • Providing personalized services customized to users' needs and preferences becomes highlighted as a key area of user-context computing. It is essential for context-aware technology to be developed more intelligent and meaningful services by being widely applied to a variety of sectors and domains. SDO (Standard Development Organization) such as MPEG and W3C has been actively developed to be standardized services and to improve context-awareness services. Yet current standards related to context-aware technology, such as MPEG-7, MPEG-21, MPEG-V, and emotionML, are not capable enough to support various systems and diverse services. Against this backdrop, the MPEG User Description, referred to also as MPEG-UD Standard, is to ensure interoperability among recommendation services, which take into account user's context when generating recommendations to users. In this light, we introduce standards related to the user context and propose the structure for RD-Engine and the Remote Responsive User Interface(RRUI) system in reference to MPEG-UD. This system collects unit resources matching specific condition according to the user's contexts described by MPEG-UD. In so doing, it improves adaptive user interface considering device features in real-time. By automatically generating adaptive user interfaces tailored to an individual's contexts, the proposed system aims to achieve high-quality user experience for a complex service.

  • In this study, emotional word logging software,'VideoTAME' was developed as an effective measurement tool for complementing the current psychological measuring methods. With the software, we measured the user's emotional changes while they interact with a product. The main goal of this study is to reveal the influence of usability on human emotions by analyzing the user's emotional changes while using a product. In this research, we asked 30 subjects to examine their emotional changes with watching the video clip recorded when they performed a series of tasks with a cellular phone in the experiment room. The results of this research indicated that negative emotion such as 'Uncomfortalbeness' was elicited mostly while they performed tasks which were difficult due to usability problems. On the other hand, positive emotion such as 'Satisfaction in Usability' was elicited for tasks which were easy to perform because of good usability. The reason for the user's emotional changes while they interact with a product can be assumed that the emotional changes were caused by specific situations they face when performing a task rather than the characteristics of task itself. We expect to clarify how usability of a product impact user's emotions in depth with more data collected and analyzed with the help of 'VideTAME'.

  • Recently, consumers are tend to purchase the user-centered designed product using interface enginnering and human factors techniques. Therefore, it is important that the designer's requirements should be analyzed focused on the human machine interface. This paper described the interface usability evaluation technique(suvjective evaluation) for the interface between user and product. This methodology is the integrated interface usbility evaluation method AHP and Conjoint Analysis. AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) is a multicriteria decision model to give priority after expressing hierarchically for decision making problem. Conjoint Analysis enduavors to unravel the value, or partworths, that consumers place on the product or service's attributes from experimental subjects' evluation of profiles based on hypothetical products or services. A new usability test methodology proposed by this paper includes techniques jointed both consistency test by AHP and experimental subjective evaluation of profiles by Conjoint Analysis for evaluating the user's emotion and impression.

  • In Korea, it is not satisfactory in the product design since Kansei engineering or Ergnomics is not very active and well considered. When designing a mini-component, the user's emotion was not considered well. It is typical to have a rectangular shape, dark- colored outside in a mini-component design. Therefore, the users have to select with available choice from the manufacture's traditional designs. In this study, a new smin- component was designed to be suitable for a new generation's (10 to mid-20) sensation. First of all, an ergonomic problems were investigated. And then, the survey was per- formed to consider the emotion of the new generation. After that, the new design was made to reflect the new generation's trend and preference. In addition, the high-touch (human-centered design) and human touch (the product to give a sensible satisfaction for human) concepts were added.
