  • In this study the numerical analyses on cavity flow in supersonic flow field are conducted. According to the length-to-depth ratio of cavity, the shear layer is changed, consequently influencing on vortex structure inside the cavity. Especially in case the fluid flow outside cavity impinges inside the cavity, the oscillation of the cavity flow is identified. Another result is that though the cavity flow shows the unsteadiness, characteristics of cavity flow can be represented by pressure coefficients converged.

  • Application of the LeMoS hybrid (LH) URANS/LES method for the wake parameters prediction is considered. The wake fraction coefficient is calculated for inland ship model M1926 under shallow water conditions and compared to results of PIV measurements. It was shown that due to lack of the resolved turbulence at the interface between LES and RANS zones the artificial grid induced separations can occur. In order to overcome this drawback, a shielding function is introduced into LH model. The new version of the model is compared to the original one, RANS $k-{\omega}$ SST and SST-IDDES models. It is demonstrated that the proposed modification is robust and capable of wake prediction with satisfactory accuracy.

  • The characteristic of unsteady flowfields on gas turbine, particularly on a rotor blade surface has been numerically investigated. The unsteady flow in a rotor blade passage as a result of wake/blade interaction is modeled by the inviscid flow approach, and solved by Euler equations using a time accurate marching scheme. Unsteady flow in the blade passage is induced by periodically moving a wake model across the passage inlet. The wake model used in this study is the Gaussian wate model in which the wake flow is assumed to be parallel with uniform static pressure and uniform relative total enthalpy. Numerical results show that for the case of Ps/Pr=1.5, the velocity and pressure distribution on the blade surfaces have much more complex profiles than for the case of Ps/Pr=1.0.

  • The engineering use of CFD is recently extending to the prediction of maneuvering characteristics, response to waves, propeller performance, and so on. The focus of the research is shifting to simulation of more complex processes. Typical examples of such processes are bow or stern slamming, green water problem, propeller cavitation, hull-propeller interaction, or drag reduction by bubble injection. Those processes are characterized by keywords such as high nonlinearity, unsteadiness, multiphase flow. In this paper, two new attempts which have been recently made by the author's research grop are presented. One is the prediction of propeller cavitation and its effect to the ship hull. The others is the application to the drag reduction by use of air bubbles.

  • Numerical analysis has been carried out for two-dimensional steady and unsteady mixed convection in the annulus between co-rotating horizontal cylinders with a heated inner cylinder. The ratio of annulus gap($\sigma$) is taken from 1 to 10 and the order of mixed-convection parameter B(=Gr/(1+Re)$^2$) varies from 10$^4$to $10^0$. The flow patterns over this parameter range are steady multicellular, oscillatory multicellular or steady unicellular. The addition of co-rotating of both cylinders stabilizes the flow in the annulus and weakens the unsteadiness. Even in the large values of rotating parameter such as of $10^0$/($\sigma$=2) and 10$^2$($\sigma$=10), the flow pattern becomes asymptotic to the steady unicellular flow, like as in the rigid-body rotating flow.

  • Oscillating airfoil haw been challenged for the dynamic stalls of airfoil am wind turbines at high angle of attach. Especially, the pressure oscillation has a huge effect on noise generation, structure damage, aerodynamic performance am safety, because the flow has strong unsteadiness at high angle of attack. In this paper, the unsteady aerodynamics coefficients were analyzed for the oscillating airfoil at high angle of attack around two dimensional NACA0012 airfoil. The two dimensional unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equation with a LES turbulent model was calculated by OHOC (Optimized High-Order Compact) scheme. The flow conditions are Mach number of 0.2 and Reynolds number of $1.2{\times}10^4$. The lift, drag, pressure distribution, etc. are analyzed according to the pitching oscillation. Unsteady velocity field, periodic vortex shedding, the unsteady pressure distribution, and the acoustic fields are analyzed. The effects of these unsteady characteristics in the aerodynamic coefficients are analyzed.

  • Flow characteristics of two-dimensional closed square cavities near unsteady critical Reynolds numbers were studied numerically at four Reynolds numbers : $8{\times}10^3,\;8.5{\times}10^3,\;9{\times}10^3\;and\;9.5{\times}10^3.$ A convection conservative difference scheme based upon SOLA to maintain the nearly 2nd-order spatial accuracy is adopted on irregular grid formation. Irregular grid number is $80{\times}80$ and its minimum size is about 1/400 of the cavity height(H) and its maximum is about 1/53 H. The result shows that the critical Reynolds number indicating the emergence of flow wnsteadiness is ranging from Re=$8{\times}10^3\;to\;8.5{\times}10^3$ and their flow patterns reveal periodic fluctuation during transient and fully developed stages. But macroscopic flow behavior in terms of instantaneous and time-mean characteristics represent remarkable difference.
