A numerical study has been performed to obtain the air-side flow and heat transfer characteristics for a two-row lanced finned tube heat exchanger with 7 mm tube outer diameter. The increases of dimensionless local heat flux at the leading edge of slit and bottom surface of the fin were noticed. The temperature of air at downstream of the 2nd row of the lanced fin becomes more uniform than that of the plain fin because the mixing of energy increases by the slit and the side-slit. As the inlet velocity increases, the contribution of the 1st row to heat transfer decreases and that of 2nd row increases.

An anodic electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technique is used to create a uniform TiO2 thin film coating on boiling thin steel plates (1.1 mm by 90 mm). All of the effective parameters except time of the EPD method are kept constant. To investigate the effect of gamma irradiation on the critical heat flux (CHF), the test specimens were irradiated in a gamma cell to different doses ranging from 100 to 300 kGy, and then SEM and BET analysis were performed. For each coated specimen, the contact angle and capillary length were measured. The specimens were then tested in a boiling pool for CHF and boiling heat transfer coefficient. It was observed that irradiation significantly decreases the maximum pore diameter while it increases the porosity, pore surface area and pore volume. These surface modifications due to gamma irradiation increased the CHF of the nano-coated surfaces compared to that of the unirradiated surfaces. The heat transfer coefficient (HTC) of the nano-coated surfaces irradiated at 300 kGy increased from 83 to 160 kW/(㎡ K) at 885 kW/㎡ wall heat flux by 100%. The CHF of the irradiated (300 kGy) and unirradiated surfaces are 2035 kW/㎡ and 1583 kW/㎡, respectively, an increase of nearly 31%.

Heat transfer performance are studied for the turbulent flow of water in 3 smooth tube coils having ratios of coil to tube diameter of 16, 21 and 27, and a corrugated-coiled tube having a ratio of coil to tube diameter of 29, for Reynolds numbers from 8000 to 60000 and is also compared with the limited results available to data. The experiments are carried out for the fully developed turbulent flow of water in tube coils under the condition of uniform heat flux. This work is limited 0 tube coils of R/a between 10 and 30. The tube having a ratio of coil to tube diameter of 27 among the 3 smooth tube coils shows the best heat transfer performance. The performance of coiled tube best transfer performance. The performance of coiled tube with a similar curvature ratio is better for a corrugated-coiled tube(R/a=17) than for a smooth coiled tube(R/a=16). An empirical relation which correlates most of the data within $\pm$25% was also developed. Test result shows that the Nusselt number is found to be affected by a secondary flow due to curvature.
The present work investigates the heat transfer characteristics for laminar fully developed forced convection in an internally finned tube with axially uniform heat flux and peripherally uniform temperature through analytical models of convection in a porous medium. Using the Brinkman-extended Darcy flow model and the two equation model fur heat transfer, analytical solutions fur fluid flow and heat transfer are obtained and compared with the exact solution for fluid flow and the numerical solutions for conjugate heat transfer to validate the porous medium approach. Using the analytical solutions, parameters of engineering importance are identified and their effects on fluid flow and heat transfer are studied. Also, the expression fur total thermal resistance is derived from the analytical solutions and minimized in order to optimize the thermal performance of the internally finned tubes.
An experiment was performed to obtain the local heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number in a circular duct with a 180$^{\circ}$ bend for Re=6 x 10$^4$, 8 x 10$^4$ and 1 x 10$\^$5/ under swirling flow and non-swirling flow conditions. The test tube with a circular section was made from stainless steel having a curvature ration of 9.4. Current heat flux of 5.11 kW/㎡ was applied to the test tube by electrical power and the swirling motion of air was produced by a tangential inlet to the pipe axis at 180$^{\circ}$. Measurements of local wall temperatures and the bulk mean temperatures of air were made at four circumferential positions at 16 stations. The wall temperatures showed a reduced distribution curve at the bend for the non-swirling flow, but this effect did not appear for the swirling flow. The Nusselt number distributions for the swirling flow, which was calculated from the measured wall and the bulk temperatures, were higher than that of the non-swirling flow. The average Nusselt number of the swirling flow increased by about 90-100%, compared to that of the non-swirling flow. The Nu/Nu$\_$DB/ values at the 90$^{\circ}$ station for non-swirling flow and swirling flow were approximately 2.5 and 4.8 at Re=6x10$^4$ respectively. The values agree well with Said's results for non-swirling flow.
It is derived for the temperature profile in a cylindrical and planar shape capillary pumped loop evaporators subject to a uniform heat flux prior to the initiation of boiling using the finite difference method. The results of the analysis allow for the determination of applied power levels for which nucleation is likely to occur only within the vapor grooves of the evaporator while maintaining subcooling in the liquid core, thereby increasing the likelihood of a successful startup. Also, limits are found for which additional increases in the applied heat flux do not increase the temperature difference between the vapor grooves and the wick-liquid core interface. Several advantages of larger diameter evaporators observed experimentally in startup are explained and quantified by the model. This analysis is appropriate for standard capillary pumped loop evaporators during a fully-flooded startup as well as starter pump designs and loop heat pipes.
In this study a channel cavity flow was performed. The channel has small size in the upper cavity region. At the gap is supplied by driven flow for Reynolds number. The experimental study was carried out in a channel cavity with square heat surface by visualization equipment with Mach-Zehnder interferometer and laser apparatus. Heat source was uniform heat flux($0.4W/cm^2,\;0.8W/cm^2,\;1.2W/cm^2$). When the bottom wall is heated, the tendency of natural convection flows are vigorous increasing heat flux.

It has been investigated for the temperature profile in a planar evaporator of micro-cooler subject to a uniform heat flux prior to tole initiation of boiling. The results of the analysis allow for the determination of applied power levels fur which nucleation is likely to occur only within the vapor grooves of the evaporator while maintaining subcooling in the liquid core, thereby increasing the likelihood of a successful startup. Also, limits are fecund for which additional increases in the applied heat flux do not increase the temperature difference between the vapor grooves and the wick-liquid core interface. This analysis is appropriate for the microscale evaporators of micro-cooler during a fully-flooded startup as well as starter pump designs and micro-CPLs(capillary pumped loops). The results are useful in the initial basic design of microscale heat transfer devices.

In this study, a numerical analysis was performed for the natural convection heat transfer in a vertical channel which was consisted of two finite-thickness vertical walls with heat source. The ratio of the thermal conductivity of wall to air played an important role in the analysis. The case for which one side wall has protrusion resistances was also examined. The governing equations for the system was discretized by control volume formulation and solved by SIMPLE method. As the result of this study, it was found that the uniform heat flux boundary condition could be applied when the conductivity ratio was below approximately 50 and the uniform temperature boundary condition could be used when the conductivity rat io was over approximately 15,000. However, when the conductivity ratio was between 50 and 15,000, the thermal conductivity ratio value should be considered for the analysis. It was also found that the existence of protrusion resistance influenced the thermal field up to the distance of 3-4 times of the protrusion length.

Optimization study has been carried out to design an energy efficient, high temperature vacuum furnace which satisfies users' design requirements. First of all, the transient temperature distribution and the uniform temperature zone results have been compared with the steady state results to validate the feasibility of using steady state solution when constructing the thermal analysis DB. In order to check the accuracy, the interpolated results using thermal analysis DB have been compared with the computational and the experimental results. In this study, total heat flux is selected as the objective function, and the geometry parameters of vacuum furnace including the thickness of insulator, the heat zone sizes and the interval between heater and insulator are the design variables. The Uniform temperature zone sizes and the wall temperature are imposed as the design constraints. With negligible computational cost a high temperature vacuum furnace which has $40\sim60%$ reduction in total heat flux is designed using thermal analysis DB.
