  • It has been argued that Enterprise systems (ES) implementations are overshadowed by a high failure rate despite their promised benefits. One of the commonly cited reasons for ES implementation failures in the context of mandatory use is end-user's unwillingness or sabotage to adopt or use systems. Considering that the appropriate management of expectations may play an important role in making positive behavior toward newly implemented systems, this study examines the effect of outcome expectations on the system use activity in the mandatory use context of information systems from the Social Cognitive Theory perspective. Structural equation model analysis using LISREL 8.7 provides significant support for the proposed relationships. The empirical results suggest that outcome expectations and user satisfaction have positive effects on system use activity conceptualized by immersion, reinvention, and learning. Theoretical and practical implications of the study shed some light on how to improve system use activity in the mandatory use context of information systems.

  • The Industrial development and the Increase in population have brought out a rapid increase of wastewater discharge. To deal with this matter, much estimate has been spend on construction and management of a large scale sewage treatment plant. Although every effort has been carried out, river water quality has no significantly improved. Especially. the aggravation of the water quality in dry season is brought out a serious social problem. The purpose of this study Is the development of an optimal water quality management technique considering the efficient control of the multiple pollutant load associated with the total pollutant load control. A GUI(Graphical User Interface) system named 'QL2-XP' model is developed by object-oriencted language for the user convenience and practical usage. Suggested GUI system consist of hydraulic analysis. water quality analysis, optimized model calibration processes, and postprocessing the simulation results.

  • As information technology rapidly develops and the period required to enter new technology shortens, there emerges a wide variety of alternatives for consumers. When there are many alternatives in the market, users choose after making comparisons. This process of making comparisons is our research key. We established a research model to find a mixed effect that comes from new attitudes to technology adoption and alternative's continuous usage intention. The effect is revealed through a relative attractiveness (RA) factor to explain a user's process of comparison. We empirically test our research model in the new media services, such as mobile TV, web TV, and mobile IPTV. According to our research results, a continuous usage intention of an existing technology is an important factor to explain the adoption of a new technology. So, the contribution of our research is in finding a role for the RA factor in research in new technology adoption.

  • This study investigates the factors that influence the user's (postal workers') satisfaction with using PDAs in the Korea Postal Services. This study is concerned about the success of IS when employees are mandated to use IS to increase their productivity. The factors examined in this study include independent variables (information quality and system quality), dependent variables (perceived usefulness and user satisfaction), and mediator (compatibility with work). All these factors were found significant for causal relations. We especially notice the role of compatibility with work as full mediator.

  • In the era of the internet and ubiquitous computing, IS users are still facing a variety of threats. Therefore, a need of more tightened information security service increases unprecedentedly. In this sense, this study is aimed at proposing a new research model in which IT assets (i.e., network, system, and information influence) Security and Information Security Service (i.e., confidentiality, integrity, nonrepudiation, authentication) affect information security quality positively, leading to users' satisfaction eventually. To prove the validity of the proposed research model, PLS analysis is applied with valid 177 questionnaires. Results reveal that both IT assets Security and Information Security Service influence informations security qualify positively, and user satisfaction as well. From the results, it can be concluded that Korean government's recent orchestrated efforts to boost the IT assets Security and Information Security Service helped great improve the information security quality and user satisfaction.

  • Recently, information technology and information system(IS) are rapidly diffused throughout the world. In the global competitive environment, the success of IS becomes the important one among the critical success factors(CSF) of the firm. For achieving it, the firm must continually involve itself in the quality evaluation and improvement of IS. The quality concept was changed into the customer-oriented quality one. There is no exception to the quality of IS. In the past, IS quality was determined by the IS developer or IS department offering service. Now it is evaluated by the user of IS service, and then the customer-oriented user satisfaction becomes an important issue. The purpose of this study is to develope the total quality evaluation model of IS through TQM approach. First, all success factors of the domestic IS are extracted from the foreign and domestic literatures of IS success factors contained the technical and behavioral aspects. And the extracted factors are classified with evaluation levels for quality evaluation and developed into a total quality evaluation model. Finally the model usefulness is analyzed.

  • The objective of this paper is to propose a knowledge-based fuzzy post adjustment so that unstructured problems can be solved more realistically by expert systems. Major part of this mechanism forcuses on fuzzily assessing the influence of various external factors and accordingly improving the solutions of unstructured problem being concerned. For this purpose, three kinds of knowledge are used : user knowledge, expert knowledge, and machine knowledge. User knowledge is required for evaluating the external factors as well as operating the expert systems. Machine knowledge is automatically derived from historical instances of a target problem domain by using machine learning techniques, and used as a major knowledge source for inference. Expert knowledge is incorporate dinto fuzzy membership functions for external factors which seem to significantly affect the target problems. We applied this mechanism to a prototyoe expert system whose major objective is to provide expert guidance for stock market timing such as sell, buty, or wait. Experiments showed that our proposed mechanism can improve the solution quality of expert systems operating in turbulent decision-making environments.

  • In most of the recent research literature, network performance is expressed in terms of network engineering measures such as delay or loss. These performance measures are important to network owners and operators, but it is believed that user preferences should be the primary consideration which drives the resource allocation scheme. A network is only as valuable as its users perceive it to be. Therefore, it is advocated that the users themselves determine relative traffic priorities. This paper describes the role of feedback in network resource allocation, which could be part of a user-oriented framework for network operation and control. Feedback mechanism can also be used to improve the two types of efficiency in the network; network efficiency and economic efficiency.

  • Generating a project network of a specific construction project is very time consuming and difficult task in the field. To effectiviely automate and support the planning process, we design a case-based project planning expert system inspired by the fact a human expert project planner uses previous cases for planning a new project. A construction project case consist of its specific characteristics and the corresponding project network (i.e. project plan). Using frame based representation. we represent the project features affecting the progress network and the entities composing the project plan such as the buildings, construction methods, WBS (work breakdown structure), activities, and resources. The project planning process runs through most similar case retrieval, case adaptation, and user requirement satisfaction. We represent the construction domain knowledge for each procedure using constraints and rules. We develop the methodology for constraint-based case adaption. Case adaptation process mainly consist of activity generation/deletion and predecence constraint satisfaction, for which we develop the dynamic constraint generation method and connect user-level requirement representation the system-level network modification knowledge. The methodology is being applied to the prototype for apartment construction project planning.

  • By managing not only geographical information but also various kinds of attribute data. GIS presents useful information for decision-makings. Most of decision-making problems using GIS can be formulated into network-optimization problems. In this study we deal with the implementation of network optimization system that extracts data from the database in GIS. solves a network optimization problem and present optimal solutions through GIS' graphical user interface. We design a nitwork optimization system and present some implementation techniques by showing a prototype of the network optimization system. Our network optimization system consists of three components : the interface module for user and GIS the basic network the program module the advanced network optimization program module. To handle large-scale networks the program module including various techniques for large sparse networks is also considered, For the implementation of the network optimization system we consider two approaches : the method using script languages supported by GIS and the method using client tools of GIS. Finally some execution results displayed by the prototype version of network optimization system are given.
