Amphidinium stirisquamtum sp. nov. (Dinophyceae), a new marine sand-dwelling dinoflagellate with a novel type of body scale

  • Amphidinium species are amongst the most abundant benthic dinoflagellates in marine intertidal sandy ecosystems. Some of them produce a variety of bioactive compounds that have both harmful effects and pharmaceutical potential. In this study, Amphidinium cells were isolated from intertidal sand collected from the East China Sea. The two strains established were subjected to detailed examination by light, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The vegetative cells had a minute, irregular, and triangular-shaped epicone deflected to the left, thus fitting the description of Amphidinium sensu stricto. These strains are distinguished from other Amphidinium species by combination characteristics: (1) longitudinal flagellum inserted in the lower third of the cell; (2) icicle-shaped scales, 276 ± 17 nm in length, on the cell body surface; (3) asymmetrical hypocone with the left side longer than the right; and (4) presence of immotile cells. Therefore, they are described here as Amphidinium stirisquamtum sp. nov. The molecular tree inferred from small subunit rRNA, large subunit rRNA, and internal transcribed spacer-5.8S sequences revealed that A. stirisquamtum is grouped together with the type species of Amphidinium, A. operculatum, in a fully supported clade, but is distantly related to other Amphidinium species bearing body scale. Live A.stirisquamtum cells greatly affected the survival of rotifers and brine shrimp, their primary grazers, making them more susceptible to predation by the higher tropic level consumers in the food web. This will increase the risk of introducing toxicity, and consequently, the bioaccumulation of toxins through marine food webs.

해양 음향 토모그래피에서 M-시퀀스를 이용한 해양 음향 채널 분석 (Analysis of the Ocean Acoustic Channel Using M-sequences in Ocean Acoustic Tomography)

  • 최근에 OAT(Ocean Acoustic Tomography) 분야에서 M-시퀀스를 이용한 펄스압축 (pulse compression) 기법을 이용하여 해양 구조를 분석하는 많은 연구가 이뤄지고 있다. M-시퀀스는 정합필터 (matched-filter)을 사용한 복조를 통해. 훌륭한 시간 분해능 (resolution) 및 도플러 분해능을 제공할 수 있다. 또한 수신 신호를 적절하게 처리함으로써 수신기 출력의 신호대잡음비 성능을 개선할 수 있으며, 수신 신호를 동기적으로 평균하는 것은 그것에 대한 좋은 예라고 할 수 있다. 그리고 데이터를 빠르고 효율적으로 처리할 수 있는 FHT (Fast Hadamard Transform) 또는 FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) 기법을 사용함으로써 처리 속도를 효율적으로 개선할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 동해 연안에서 수집된 데이터를 이용하여 수중 음파의 다중경로 성분과 지연 시간을 분석하며, 송수신기간의 샘플링 속도 오차에서 비롯된 현상을 설명하고 오차를 보상하는 방법을 제시한다. 그리고 채널의 scattering 함수, 지연 전력 프로파일 (delay power profile), 시간 확산 특성 등을 통하여 해양 음향 채널의 특성을 분석하도록 한다.

유류확산모델 개발 및 동해의 유류오염 사고대책 (Development of Oil Spills Model and Contingency Planning ill East Sea)

  • There has been increasing offshore oil exploration, drilling, and production activities, as well as a huge amount of petroleum being transported by tankers and pipelines through the ocean and costal environment. Assessment must be made of the potential risk of damage resulting from the exploration, development and transportation activities. This is achieved through predictive impact evaluations of the fate of hypothetical or real oil spills. VVhen an oil spill occurs, planning and execution of cleanup measures also require the capability to forecast the short-term and long-term behavior of the spilled oil. A great amount of effort has been spent by government agencies, oil industries, and researchers over the past decade to develop more realistic models for oil spills. Numerous oil spill models have been developed and applied, most of which attempt to predict the oil spill fate and behavior. For an actual contingency planning, the oil fate and behavior model should be combined with an oil spill incident model, an environmental impact and risk model and a contingency planning model. The purpose of this review study is to give an overview of existing oil spill models that deal with the physical, chemical, biological, and socia-economical aspects of the incident, fate, and environmental impact of oil spills. After reviewing the existing models, future research needs are suggested. In the study, available oil spill models are separated into oil spill incident, oil spill fate and behavior, environmental impact and risk, and contingency planning models. The processes of the oil spill fate and behavior are reviewed in detail and the characteristics of existing oil spill fate and behavior models are examined and classified so that an ideal model may be identified. Finally, future research needs are discussed.

입자수치모의를 통한 낙동강 하구 부유(해안)쓰레기 거동특성 (Characteristics of the Behavior of Floating Debris in the Nakdong River Estuary using a Simple Numerical Particle Model)

  • 본 연구는 낙동강 하구역에 유입되거나 발생된 부유(해안)쓰레기의 거동특성을 파악하기 위해 2003년 태풍 "매미" 내습시 하구둑 최대 방류량을 조건으로 해수유동장을 재현하고 재현된 유동장에 부유쓰레기로 대표되는 입자를 방출하여 입자들의 거동특성을 살펴보고자 하였다. 그 결과에 따르면 낙동강 하구역내 존재하는 부유쓰레기는 홍수유량시 72시간 경과시에 낙동강 하구역내 입자분포 및 거동이 안정상태에 도달하였다. 공간상으로는 진우도를 포함한 가덕도 동측 해안의 경우 초기 33시간까지는 40%까지 증가하나 그 외 주변해역의 경우 $20{\sim}40$ % 범위를 유지하였다.

한·일 해사분쟁해결과 중재제도에 관한 고찰 (A Study on the Arbitration and Maritime Dispute Resolution in Korea and Japan)

  • Arbitration is the dispute methods for speedy and economic resolutions in international commercial areas. In maritime disputes cases in East Asia, Korea and Japan are the regional benefits to cover and deal with the maritime cases on arbitration. And Korea and Japan are the competitive maritime industry for heavy shipbuilding industry, cargo carrier, processing and transhipment service on ports, and ship financial services in national competitive areas. Japan is the Tokyo maritime arbitration commission(TOMAC) as an uniquely capable of dealing with arbitrations involving problems arising in the sea field. TOMAC provides amended its arbitration rules 2014 aiming at matching with the maritime disputes circumstances with three maritime arbitration rules as ordinary rules, simplified rules and the rules of small claims arbitration procedure. KCAB however, as the unique commercial arbitration board in Korea is dealing on all of the commercial disputes on only the international commercial arbitration rules in 2011. Though KCAB is dealt with maritime dispute cases on international arbitration rules in Korea, it is small and simple compared with TOMAC in Japan. Maritime disputes are highly complicated and embroiled with multi-parties contract and subcontracts arising under contracts relating to bills of lading, charter parties, sale and purchase of ships, shipbuilding, ship financing and so forth. This paper is to provides a discussion and comparison on recently arbitration rules focus on the maritime aspects on Korea and Japan. We need to consider to make an independent and special institute and maritime arbitration rules including the multiparty consolidation and med-arb provisions for handling the disputes and resolution of maritime conflict cases in Korea.

남해도 미조 정치망 어장의 출현 종과 어획량 변동특성 (Composition and Catch Variation of Fisheries Resources by Set Net in the Mizo Fishing Ground off Namhae Island)

  • 남해도 미조 정치망 어획물의 종 조성과 어획량 변동양상을 알아보기 위하여 2004년의 어기(3월 말부터 12월까지) 동안 매일 조사를 실시하였다. 조사기간 중 총 어종수 39종과 총 어획량 69,147.5 kg의 수산자원이 어획되었으며, 이중 어류가 33종 66,410.2 kg, 두족류가 5종 1,126.6 kg 그리고 갑각류가 1종, 1,610.7 kg을 차지하였다. 우점적으로 어획된 수산자원으로는 갈치, 까나리, 멸치, 삼치 등이며, 전체 어획량의 81.2%를 차지하였다. 이 외 정어리, 감성돔, 새우류, 살오징어 등이 소량 혼획되었으나, 전체 어획량에서 차지하는 비율은 낮았다. 우점어종 중에서 까나리는 봄철에 주로 어획되었고, 갈치와 삼치는 여름과 가을철에 그리고 멸치는 봄부터 가을철까지 계속 어획되었다. 미조 정치망의 어획량은 봄보다는 가을철 전후에 많이 어획되었는데, 이는 우점종인 갈치와 삼치의 어획량 증가에 따른 것이며, 이는 또한 $17^{\circ}C$ 이상의 어장 적수온과 관련이 있었다.

설악산국립공원 지역의 노루 서식지 이용 특성에 관한 연구 (Characteristics of Habitat-using of Siberian Roe Deer in Seoraksan(Mt.) National Park)

  • This study was conducted to obtain the basic research about Siberian roe deer (Capreolus pygargus), and to establish a conservation area into Seoraksan(Mt.) National Park, South Korea. We recorded Siberian roe deer field signs (bedding sites, feeding areas, feces and tracks etc), and habitat variables such as nearest distance to the watercourse, trails, slope, aspect, forest type and land cover etc. from Jan. 2006 to Dec. 2007 in Seoraksan(Mt.) National Park. According to the research of habitat characteristics of Siberian roe deer inhabited in Seoraksan(Mt.) National Park preferred mixed forest consisted of aged forest and middle-aged forest on the gentle slope which was close to hydrosphere in the middle elevation area of altitude of 400~600m above sea level in Seoraksan(Mt.) National Park. The results indicated that Siberian roe deer appeared to prefer south slope or north slope during the snow season and west or east slope during the non-snow season. The area of most suitable habitat for Siberian roe deer in Seoraksan(Mt.) National Park was $128.5km^2$ (32% of the total area) followed by $244.3km^2$ buffer area (62.2% of the total area), and $22.9km^2$ unsuitable habitat area (5.8% of the total area), which means environmentally unsuitable habitat for Siberian roe deer was rare in Seoraksan(Mt.) National Park. Thus, the area classified as major area in Seoraksan(Mt.) National Park appeared to be most important for the protection of Siberian roe deer.

Modern Dinoflagellate Cysts Distribution off the Eastern Part of Geoje Island, Korea

  • Distributional characteristics of dinoflagellate cysts in surface sediments were investigated in relation to environmental factors in the eastern part of Geoje Island, Korea. Samples were collected from 10 stations in February of 2004 and water temperature and salinity were measured in February, May, September and November of 2004. Total 30 taxa of dinoflagellate cysts were identified representing 19 genera, 28 species and 2 unidentified species. Among these dinoflagellate cysts, Brigantedinium spp. of which relative proportion in th e total dinoflagellate cysts was 23.5%, was the most abundant at all stations except St. 1, and was followed by Spiniferites bulloideus (8.6%), Lingulodinium machaerophorum (8.2%) and Diplopsalis lenticula (6.7%). In addition, ellipsoidal cysts of the genus Alexandrium (Alexandrium catenella - tamarense type) and Gymnodinium catenatum, known to be causative organisms for PSP, occurred with high concentrations. Scrippsiella trochoidea was also found; however, its cyst concentration was low. Generally, species composition in the study area was similar to these reported from Jinhae Bay and Busan Harbor and several dinoflagellate cysts reflected the eutrophic condition. Cyst distribution in th e eastern part of Geoje Island seems to be influenced by the Tsushima Warm Current flowing from the southwest. The mean water temperature was $12.0^{\circ}C$ in February, $14.7^{\circ}C$ in May, $20.9^{\circ}C$ in September and $17.2^{\circ}C$ in November, which was most favorable for Alexandrium spp. growth. The abundances of dinoflagellate cysts rang e d from 528 to 2,834 cysts/g dry sediment. Higher concentrations were recognized in sediments of west area of the Jisimdo than at other stations. The cyst composition of this area was closely related to these of Jinhae Bay and Busan Harbor from which currents flow into this area. Higher cyst concentration in the west area of Jisimdo might be due to formation of the gyre.

수중구조를 위한 ICT 기반 수중통신 모니터링 장치 구현 (Implementation of ICT-based Underwater Communication Monitoring Device for Underwater Lifting)

  • 본 연구에서는 해저에서 발견한 인체를 해수면까지 운반하는 인양백을 기반으로 수중구조를 위한 ICT 기반 수중통신 모니터링 장치를 구현한다. 인양백은 에어를 주입하는 리프트백, 사이드백, CO2 카트리지 등으로 패키지화 되어 있다. 모니터링 시스템은 휴대하기 용이한 구조로 모바일 방식으로 개발한다. 수중 초음파 센서 신호는 USB 포트를 사용하여 공급되며, O/S는 리눅스로 구성한다. 수중통신동시험은 동해안에서 수심 6m~40m까지 실시간으로 측정 시험을 진행한다. 초음파 음향센서는 2,400bps로 변환되어 2원화에 따라 전송오차를 검증한다. 센서에서 모니터링까지 통신속도는 115,200bps, 제어기에서 수신부까지 통신속도는 2,400bps를 사용한다. 리프팅 장치의 상용화 단계에서 로우엔드 타입 개발이 용이하고 호환성이 넓도록 한다.

광합성율과 생물량에 기초한 Sargassum confusum의 생산성 계산 모델 (An Estimation of the Algal Production of Sargassum confusum (Phaeophyta) on the Coast of Ohori, East Sea, Korea, by Mathematical Models Based on Photosynthetic Rates and Biomass Changes)

  • 동해안 오호리에 서식하는 Sargassum confusum을 대상으로 광합성율과 생물량의 시간에 따른 변화를 조사하여 해조류의 년생산성을 예측하는 모델을 구성하였다. 즉 년생산량 P/SUB yr/를 P/SUB yr/ = .int.P/SUB t/·B/SUB t/dt (이때 P/SUB t/와 B/SUB t/는 주어진 시간에서의 광합성율과 생물량을 나타낸다)의 식을 설정하여 구하 였다. P/SUB t/는 수온과 광량의 함수로 보아 서로 다른 수온과 광도의 조건에서 광합 성을 측정하여 P/SUB t/에 대입하였다. 수온과 Sargassum confusum이 서식하는 수심 3 m를 기준으로 하였다. 모델에 의한 모의 결과는 수온이 일차생산량을 결정하는 가장 중요한 요인임을 보여주었다. 구름을 가정하여 30%의 광량을 무작위로 감소시켰을 때 해조류의 년생산량은 5%감소하였다.
