  • The objective of this study were 1) to determine the stages of concern of HE teachers about the practical problem-based curriculum approach, as illustrated by the Ohio's Work and Family Life Curriculum (W&FLC); 2) to determine the relationships between home economics (HE) teacher's stages of concern about W&FLC and personal and professional characteristics of HE teachers; and 3) to determine aspects of interest about the practical problem-based curriculum approach, such as the Ohio W&FLC. Respondents in this study were 225 HE teachers. The data were collected during the in-service teacher training sessions after presentation about W&FLC. Concerns Based Adoption Model (CBAM) was modified to provide a conceptual framework for this study. Frequencies, SD, mean, mode, range were used to determine the stages of concern of HE teachers. To determine the relationships between stages of concerns and personal and professional characteristics of HE teachers, coefficient of Chi-Square contingency tables was used. Content analysis was used to determine aspects of interest about the practical problem-bsed curriculum approach, such as W&FLC. The median of the stages of HE teachers' concerns about W&FLC was Stage 1, Information Stage. About 60% of HE teachers were interested in learning more details about W&FLC. Chi-square revealed no statistically significant relationships between stages of concerns about W&FLC and characteristics of HE teachers. Content analysis was used to determine aspects of interest about W&FLC of HE teachers. Nine categories were found: content, teaching strategies, implementation of the curriculum, philosophical framework, how to adopt W&FLC, resource materials, students' outcomes, in-service teacher training, and HE teacher organization. The majority of HE teachers were interested in relationships with family and others, resource management, family relationships, personal development, communication skill, family life, creating a self-identity, life planning, roles of family members, homemaking management, child care, and parenting.

  • Nowadays in school mathematics, the skill and method for solving problems are often emphasized in preference to the theoretical principles of mathematics. Students pay attention to how to make an equation mechanically before even understanding the meaning of the given problem. Furthermore they do not get to really know about the principle or theorem that were used to solve the problem, or the meaning of the answer that they have obtained. In contemporary textbooks the conic section such as circle, ellipse, parabola and hyperbola are introduced as the cross section of a cone. But they do not mention how conic section are connected with the quadratic equation or how these curves are related mutually. Students learn the quadratic equations of the conic sections introduced geometrically and are used to manipulating it algebraically through finding a focal point, vertex, and directrix of the cross section of a cone. But they are not familiar with relating these equations with the cross section of a cone. In this paper, we try to understand the quadratic curves better through the analysis of the discussion made in the process of the discovery and eventual development of the conic section and then seek for way to improve the teaching and learning methods of quadratic curves.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the 6th graders' understanding of the concepts of variable on various aspects of school algebra. For this purpose, the test of concepts of variable targeting a sixth-grade class was conducted and then two students were selected for in-depth interview. The level of mathematics achievement of the two students was not significantly different but there were differences between them in terms of understanding about the concepts of variable. The results obtained in this study are as follows: First, the students had little basic understanding of the variables and they had many cognitive difficulties with respect to the variables. Second, the students were familiar with only the symbol '${\Box}$' not the other letters nor symbols. Third, students comprehended the variable as generalizers imperfectly. Fourth, the students' skill of operations between letters was below expectations and there was the student who omitted the mathematical sign in letter expressions including the mathematical sign such as x+3. Fifth, the students lacked the ability to reason the patterns inductively and symbolize them using variables. Sixth, in connection with the variables in functional relationships, the students were more familiar with the potential and discrete variation than practical and continuous variation. On the basis of the results, this study gives several implications related to the early algebra education, especially the teaching methods of variables.

  • Purpose How can be a great doctor with excellence and ethics? In this study, I wanted to find out the characteristics of human environment to make a great doctor. Methods: First, I researched factors and construct of the human environment. So I conceived a model for analyzing human environment with two construction model : Howard Gardner's System Model and Bron-fenbrenner's ecological systems model. Second, I analyzed the life of the Oliver R. Evison M.D. and Ki Ryu Jang M.D. Oliver R. Evison was the pioneer of medicine of Korea and establisher of the Severance Hospital and medical college. Dr KiRyu Jang, who was called 'Schweitzer of Korea', was a good doctor of the poor and weak patients in Korea. Third, I tried to find out a new human environment model to make a great doctor. Results One model for analyzing human environment was made of relationship based on emotion. relationship teaching knowledge and skill, and relationship communicating on value. In the light of analyzing of two great doctors. Oliver R. Evison M.D. and KiRyu Jang M.D, I found out special interrelationship, Hardie, Allen, Severance for Evison, Kyosin Kim, Kyucheol Choi etc. for Ki Ryu Jang These special people were religious actors or social thinkers. Conclusions: To be a great doctor to excel and innovate medical field, medical students should have the chance to meet with people based on religious, ethical and social action, discuss on value across social fields, and can construct the idea to make and realize higher value of medical action. In sum, another important human environment for medical students would be a person who could be communicate with true value.

  • This study was aimed to analyze - focusing on the thesis of Younes - the pronunciation error occuring mostly for Arabian speakers to learn French pronunciation for Arabians and to suggest the effective study plan to improve such errors and provide the effective studying method. The first part is on how the Arabic and French pronunciation system are distinguished, especially by comparing and analyzing the system of graphemes and phonemes, with which we focused on the fact that Arabian is a language centralized on consonants, while French is a verb-centered language. In the second part, we mainly discussed the cause and the types of errors occurring when Arabic speakers study French pronunciation. As of the category of mistakes, we separated them into consonants and verbs. We assumed the possible method which can be used in learning, focusing on /b/, /v/, /p/, /b/ - in case of non-verbs and consonants - and /y/, /ø/, - in case of verbs - which don't exist in Arabic pronunciation system. One of the troubles the professors in Arabian culture have in teaching French to native learners is how to solve the problem on a phonetic basis regarding speaking and reading ability, which belong to verbal skill, among the critical factors of foreign language education, which are listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. In fact, the problems occuring in learning foreign language are had by not only Arabian learners but also general groups of people who learn the foreign language, the pronunciation system of which is distinctly distinguished from their mother tongue. The important fact professors should recognize regarding study of pronunciation is that they should encourage the learners to reach the acceptable level in proper communication rather than push them to have the same ability as the native speakers, Even though it cannot be said that the methods suggested in this study have absolute influence in reducing errors when learning French pronunciation system, I hope it can be at least a small help.

  • This study examined how the use of learning apps in Zoom-based classes affects learners' English achievement and assessed the efficiency of app use in Zoom-based English classes. The study utilized the English Central (EC) app to induce learners to actively participate in zoom-based classes. To assess the app's efficiency, two rounds of achievement tests and an open-ended questionnaire were administered. The two tests showed that Zoom-based EC app utilization classes positively affected learners' English achievement and the questionnaire revealed that the learners were highly satisfied with using the EC app in Zoom-based classes. The participants praised this approach for "complementing insufficient class content" and facilitating "immediate feedback" (on the EC app), "English practice," and "real-time communication and sharing of opinions" (on Zoom-based classes), describing it as "not boring" and "4 skill training in English." Instructors should strive to efficiently use such new teaching tools in the evolving environment of the untact era.
