  • The goal of this study is to examine what sort of books people read repeatedly, what are the different preferences between men and women, how much the repeatedly-read books are related to the most memorable books and how the repeatedly-read books are connected to reading habits. A questionnaire was provided to college students and their repeated reading experiences were searched. The results of the statistical analysis are summarized : 1) Most college students have experienced repeated reading more than twice. 2) The number of college students who have experienced repeated reading twice is the highest and next, those who have read repeatedly 3 times. Also, the number of times of repeated reading tends to be similar between male and female students. 3) The books which many students read repeatedly more than twice are : a) Romance of 3 Kingdoms b) Little Prince c) Da Vinci Code d) Alchemist e) Chinese nine spine stickle back f) Meu Pe do Larania Lima g) Harry potter. 4) About half of the students have read the most memorable books many times. 5) The importance of books was evaluated on the basis of the number of repeated readers and the number of readings. The order of the important books is Three Romans of 3 kingdoms, Little Prince, Da Vinci Code, Meu Pe do Larania Lima, Tuesdays with Mollie, Harry Potter, and The Myth of Greece and Rome. 6) The preferred books by male college students are mostly the stories of fighters while female likes books that contain deep emotion and morality. More than half of the males' repeated reading was Romance of 3 Kingdoms while the preferred books of females are distributed widely.

  • Masonry structure is a style of building which has been widely applied as residential facilities of low and middle stories, commercial and public facilities etc. But it is possible to destroy by loss of adhesive strength or sliding when lateral forces, such as earthquake, occurs. This study proposes a seismic retrofit method for masonry structure and its seismic performance is demonstrated by shaking table test. Two specimens per each shaking direction were made, having out-of-plane(weak axis) and in-plane(strong axis) direction. External load of 1 ton was also applied for each specimen during the test, to model the behavior of reinforced masonry wall. As a result of shaking table tests, it is shown that the specimen applying the proposed seismic retrofit method showed acceptable behaviors in both of Korea building design criteria(0.14g) and USA seismic criteria suggested by IBC(0.4g). However, it was observed that stiffness of the specimen toward out-of-plane was rapidly decreasing when seismic excitations over 0.14g were loaded. In comparison of relative displacements, maximum relative displacement of specimens which were accelerated toward out-of-plane with 0.4g at once was 29~31% of maximum relative displacement when specimens were gradually accelerated from 0.08g to 0.4g, while the maximum relative displacement of specimens accelerated toward in-plane has similar value in both cases. Therefore, it is concluded that the wall accelerated toward out-of-plane is more affected by hair crack or possible fatigues caused by seismic excitation.

  • Steel intermediate moment frames (IMFs) have been generally used as seismic load resisting systems (SLRSs) of a building to provide resistances against strong ground shaking. However, most of low and mid-rise steel buildings in Korea were constructed during pre-seismic code era or before the introduction of well-organized current seismic codes. It has been recognized that the seismic performance of these steel IMFs is still questionable. In order to respond to such a question, this study quantitatively investigates the seismic capacities of steel IMFs. Prototype models are built according to the number of stories, the levels of elastic seismic design base shear and the ductilities of structural components. Also, the other prototype models employing hysteretic energy dissipating devices (HEDDs) are considered. The collapse mechanism and the seismic performance of the prototype models are then described based on the results obtained from nonlinear-static and incremental-dynamic analyses. The seismic performance of the prototype models is assessed from collapse margin ratio (CMR) and collapse probability. From the assessment, the prototype model representing new steel IMFs has enough seismic capacities while, the prototype models representing existing steel IMFs provide higher collapse probabilities. From the analytic results of the prototype models retrofitted with HEDDs, the HEDDs enhance the seismic performance and collapse capacity of the existing steel IMFs. This is due to the energy dissipating capacity of the HEDDs and the redistribution of plastic hinges.

  • In this paper, the quantitative damage index for reinforced concrete (RC) columns with non-seismic details were presented. They are necessary to carry out the postearthquake safety evaluation of RC buildings under 5 stories without seismic details. The static cyclic test of the RC frame sub-assemblage that was an one span and actual-sized was first conducted. The specimen collapsed by the shear failure after flexural yielding of a column, lots of cracks on the surfaces of columns and beam-column joints and the cover concrete splitting at the bottom of columns occurred. The damage levels of these kinds of columns with non-seismic details were classified to five based on the load-displacement relationship by the test result. The residual story drift ratios and crack widths were then adapted as the quantitative index to evaluate the damage limit states because those values were comparatively easy to measure right after earthquakes. The highest one among the residual story drift ratios under the similar maximum story drift ratio decided on the residual story drift ratio of each damage limit state. On the other hand, the lowest and average ones among the respective residual shear and flexural widths under the similar maximum story drift ratio decided on the residual shear and flexural widths of each damage limit state, respectively. These values for each damage limit state resulted in being smaller than those by the international damage evaluation guidelines that are for seismically designed members under the same deformations.

  • This study examines the procedure of successful novel adaptation. It is well known from precedent studies that narrative structure of novels should change forms to suit the media characteristics of films. But, the changing forms of narrative structure is not a sufficient condition of successful novel adaptation, but a necessary condition. A successful adaptation could be completed with filmic expressions on the presented narrative structure. The core of filmic expression is cinematic language which means the composition and array of image and sound. The novel, Kirishma Thing deals with everyday life of high school students and it consists of six stories which are narrated by one student each in first person point of view. The film, Kirishma Thing implemented a different strategy. It reveals the same events several times to show many characters over in each person's point of view in the first half. In the second half, all the characters gathers at the rooftop of the school to have an unilinear narrative structure over one event. This film utilize all kinds of cinematic language to achieve these structures including the widescreen aspect ratio which exposes as many characters as possible in one shot, picture composition which shows the same event in a different point of view, contrast in lighting and music which differentiates and empowers the last sequence of the film.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate public art in Mullae art Village based on Adorno's Mimesis and explore a wide range of possibilities of new genre of public art. This study found out the new possibility of not only artist network, but also networks of local villagers and iron factory workers, and considered in-depth analysis of new genre public art in Mullae art village focusing on their active participations in art programs. By analyzing the artists' stories through interviews, low-cost rental accommodation brought a influx of artists into the village, and they formed their artist networks working by themselves. At this point, this could be judged a critical phenomenon in accordance with Adorno's mimesis. However, by external pressures such as government policies for setting up Mullae Art factory or downtown redevelopment, artists sought independent role in Mullae-dong and doing active public art programs grounded on mimesis. Artists were seeking a way to cope with the economy mechanism doing new genre of public art based on mimesis, and found out the possibility of formation of relationships with local residents and iron factory workers. This study was seemed to suggest the direction of new genre of public art through Mullae art village case, and considers new political measure plans for culture and art policy.

  • This study explores the patterns of meal related activities of couples of pre-retirement age in Korea. Using 2004 Time Use Survey of Korea conducted by Korea National Statistics Office, the study examines whether the couple have breakfast and dinner together, who prepares the meal and who does the dishes after meal. The descriptive and statistical analysis, as expected, shows the patterns of such activities are heavily influenced by the working status of the couple. Currently working men or women are less likely to have meals together nor do participate in preparing meals or doing dishes. Nonetheless, it is apparent that women are more likely to involve preparation and clean-ups regardless of their working status. As a whole, the activities of meal preparation and doing the dishes remains in the domain of women's work while the proportion of married women working outside home is substantial.

  • In this study, the stone used for three storied pagoda of Bulguksa Temple, which is easy to access due to works for dismantle and restore will be analyzed on the basis of petrographic study, magnetic susceptibility, and ${\gamma}$-ray spectrometer, and identify petrographic characteristics. Also we will select candidate areas of fresh rock to change the stone used for three storied stone pagoda as from its provenance is presumed. According to the results of visual inspection, the stones used for the three storied stone pagoda are similar to the features of Namsan granite, which is distributed around Gyeongju-si, and when it comes to the section of the stupa finial, the features of all the parts from the stupa finial is similar to Namsan granite except for the section of Jeweled cover. On the other hand, the color, the composition, and the mineral size of the stones in the section from the part of jeweled cover are similar to Tohamsan granite. As a result of none-destruction inspection, it seems that the stones used for the three stories stone pagoda except for the section of jeweled cover are similar to the values for the magnetic susceptibility and the ${\gamma}$-ray spectrometer. On the other hand, Jeweled cover and the values of Tohamsan granite are alike. Namsan granite is appropriate in case that the stone used for three storied stone pagoda must be replaced to fresh rock because of damage by weathering. Meanwhile, Namsan granite is seperated from Yangsan fault. Due to this fact, Namsan granite appears to not only Mt. Namsan in Gyeongju, but also Dongcheon-dong, Gyeongju, and Huenggok-ri, Pohang. As a result, these two areas are suitable to the candidate area to change the stone used for three storied stone pagoda.

  • The purpose of this study is to pay attention to the expression of good and evil which has Been significantly developed out of the existing dichotomous good and evil in animation films and to identify for them. Even though 3D animation films provides us with a sense of realistic existence due to surprising technical powers, the stories contained in such films tend to remain in the limit of family films. However, recently, some films have been presented beyond such limit with a scenario that makes people introspect their inner side. Among them, this study considered the expression of good and evil of , which extended the meaning of didactic morality into the dimension of 'Philosophy of Dionysian yes', as significant for research purpose. More specifically, this study looked at and discussed this film in more details in the aspect of focusing on the value of good and evil for eliminating the boundary of the existing perspective and pursuing positive overcoming. The frame of the concept for discussion used the philosophical statements of Kant and Hegel as well as Nietzsche who explained the meaning of good and evil with Dionysian view. As to the method of research, this study attempted to understand the theoretically related concepts and discuss the meaning, along with the presentation of examples, by inputting such meaning into the expression of good and evil presented in the film. This study has the implication in identifying that an animation film, as a virtual world, plays a role of opening a new prospect for conversion of thought in our real world and expecting a future progress.

  • 'Beauty and the Beast' was generated as a novel in 1740 and descended to date with the musical movie in 2017. This study is to understand what contents has been derived and expanded from one story for 277 years upon analyzing 'Beauty and the Beast' with the background of the times. Due to the limitation to include all the folktales and stories, the subjects of this study are limited with the contents that had been known and recorded as 'Beauty and the Beast.' 'Beauty and the Beast' has been expanded to 7 types of contents including novel, fairytale, movie, drama, animation, musical and film opera. It was created as a novel in the eighteenth century, made as a fairytale, and developed as a movie by Jean Cocteau, a movie director. With Industrial Revolution and the development of science, 'Beauty and the Beast' which derived into animation, drama, and musical contents, has been developed as the film opera thanks to the new trial of Philip Glass and the development of music industry. 'Beauty and the Beast' is still regenerating with a variety of contents continuously upon the development of computer technology and the fad of global remake. With anticipation of further analytical studies on 'Beauty and the Beast,' it is expected that the data of this study can be contributed as a reference in the other studies.
