  • A statistical procedure, which uses response surface method and Monte Carlo simulation technique, is proposed for analyzing the thermal margin of light water reactor core. The statistical thermal margin analysis method performs the best.estimate thermal margin evaluation by the probabilistic treatment of uncertainties of input parameters. This methodology is applied to KNU-1 core thermal margin analysis under the steady state nominal operating condition. Also discussed are the comparisons with conventional deterministic method and Improved Thermal Design Procedure of Westinghouse. It is deduced from this study that the response surface method is useful for performing the statistical thermal margin analysis and that thermal margin improvement is assured through this procedure.

  • For the accident prevention, it is necessary to identify common factors and characteristics contributing to the industrial accidents. This study concerned with the accident characteristics by age of injured person in the manufacturing industries. To make the statistical comparisons for the accident characteristics by age group, we derived the distributions of occupational injuries in terms of accident time, accident type, activity at time of accident, injury type, injured part of body, agency of accident, and workday losses. The results show that the characteristics of the occupational injuries by age group are not significantly different in a31 characteristics investigated in this study.

  • A Bayesian approach is suggested to the multi-proportions randomized response model. O'Hagan's (1987) Bayes linear estimator is extended to the inference of unrelated question-type randomized response model. Also some numerical comparisons are provided to show the performance of the Bayes linear estimator under the Dirichlet prior.

  • Various modeling approaches to study a long term behavior of streamflow or groundwater storage have been conducted. In this study, a Multivariate AR (1) Model has been applied to generate monthly flows of the one key station which has historical flows using monthly flows of the three subordinate stations. The Model performance was examined using statistical comparisons between the historical and generated monthly series such as mean, variance, skewness. Also, the correlation coefficients (lag-zero, and lag-one) between the two monthly flows were compared. The results showed that the modeled generated flows were statistically similar to the historical flows.

  • The generalized Neyman-Pearson lemma Is reformulated In the framework of the fuzzy set theory. Based on the result, we define the locally optimum fuzzy test and derive the locally optimum fuzzy test function. As a pratical application of the locally optimum fuzzy test, detection of weak deterministic signals corrupted by purely-adative noise Is considered, which Is an important problem In statistical signal processing. Comparisons between the locally optimum and the locally optimum fuzzy tests are also made.

  • In an attempt to enhance the visual effect of SPOT image, this study develops a neural network algorithm to transform SPOT false color into simulated true color. The method has been tested using Landsat TM and SPOT images. The qualitative and quantitative comparisons indicate that the striking similarity can be found between the true and simulated true images in terms of the visual looks and the statistical analysis.

  • Compared to modal split, the methods of forecasting traffic volumes diverted in various types of I.C.s have not been sufficiently studied. The purpose of this study is to derive a new diversion function that can represent the directional traffic volume in accordance with various geometrics of I.C.s. In general, knowing various traffic impedances and the amount of traffic production and attraction, one can estimate proper traffic volumes associated with directions by using a well-defined diversion function. This function is usually made by a series of process such as surveying directional traffic volumes on several I.C.s, analyzing with a regression method and verifying those results by statistical approaches. The function has been developed by rigorous statistical testings, mainly a regression analysis. This paper presents an effective method in planning and designing new roads, I.C.s and route choice of subway. Finally, some comparisons and improvements and suggested when one uses different types of relevant models and functions.

  • Motivated by bioequivalence studies which involve comparisons of pharmaceutically equivalent dosage forms, we propose a more general decision rule for showing equivalence simultaneously between multiple means and a control mean. Namely, this testing procedure is concerned with the situation in that one must make decisions as to the bioequivalence of an original drug product and several generic formulations of that drug. This general test is developed by considering a spherical confidence region, which is a direct extension of the usual t-based confidence interval rule formally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. We characterize the test by the probability of rejection curves and assess its performance via Monte-Carlo simulation. Since the manufacturer's main concern is the proper choice of sample sizes, we provide optimal sample sizes from the Monte-Carlo simulation results. We also consider an application of the generalized equivalence test to a repeated measures design.

  • Reliability acceptance sampling is concerned with whether to accept or reject a collection of items based upon the information obtained from life testing. Although various reliability acceptance sampling plans have been developed, little is known about their relatvie performances. This paper compares reliability acceptance sampling plans under Type II censoring, Hybrid censoring, and Time-Truncated Type II censoring assuming that the lifetimes of items in a lot follow an exponential distribution. The three plans are compared in terms of the power, the expected number of failures, and the expected time required to reach a decision. Computational experiments are conducted and the results are tabulated to provide guidelines for selecting an appropriate plan for a given situation.

  • In the present paper, various solutions for generalized canonical correlation analysis (GCCA) are considered depending on the criteria and constraints. For the comparisons of some characteristics of the solutions, we provide with certain unifying stationary equations which might to also useful to obtain various generalized canonical correlation analysis solutions. In addition, we suggest an approach for the generalized canonical correlation analysis by exploiting the concept of maximum eccentricity originally de-signed to test the internal independence structure. The solutions, including new one, are compared through unifying stationary equations and by using some numerical illustrations. A type of iterative procedure for the GCCA solutions is suggested and some numerical examples are provided to illustrate several GCCA methods.
