Spending as much time outside of school as in school, gifted youth are affected by non-school aspects including parents, other family members, peers, mentors, mathematics competitions and camp participations. These influences have been known to shape children's intellectual development, academic achievement, interests, and eventually college and career choices. From interviews with five former Olympians from Korea to identify out-of-school influences on their academic achievement and development, we discovered, in addition to confirmation of previously identified factors, additional sources of positive influence seldom previously mentioned and more common to Korean culture were gleaned - mathematics workbooks and Ha-Gwon. The findings of this study are informative for teachers and parents who are interested in development of gifted youth in providing ways to accommodate their special needs and in showing how they can carefully individualize those sources to be positively affecting intellectual development as well as academic achievement.
The purpose of this study is to provide basic information on the current status of elementary school teachers' perception of gifted education. For this purpose, this study wi1l analyze elementary school teachers' perception of the gifted education (i.e., general perception of gifted education, characteristics of gifted children, identification of gifted children, programs for gifted education, and teachers of gifted education). A questionnaire survey was used for the purpose and research questions of this study. The questionnaire used in this study was constructed by taking into account the results of surveys conducted in previous studies and the literature on gifted education. Before conducting the research, a preliminary inquiry was made to identify problems that may occur while the subjects were participating in the survey, as well as to determine the appropriateness of the questionnaire and the amount of time needed. The preliminary inquiry was conducted with ten randomly selected elementary school teachers who did not participate as subjects in the actual research. The results were later used as initial data for the actual research. The subjects of this study were teachers who were teaching in8 elementary schools under each office of education in Seoul. This process was conducted for 180 elementary school teachers from April to May 2004. The results were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) Ver. 10.1, a software program for statistical research. After the data were analyzed, the following conclusions were arrived at: 1. The result of the genera1 perception of gifted education by elementary school teachers were positive and reasonably high. The level of their perception of detailed information or knowledge, however, was relatively low. 2. As for their perceptions of the emotional characteristics of gifted children, t11e results showed a low level of understanding of the characteristics of gifted children. 3. As for their perceptions of identification of gifted children, the results showed a high level of understanding of the appropriate time to provide special education to gifted children and of the methods to identify such. On the other hand, their understanding of the identification of gifted children in an actual class was poor. 4. The respondents' level of perceptions of programs for gifted education was very low since many subjects did not have any experiences with such programs. 5. The results showed a very positive response to receiving training on gifted education, though they were very reluctant to be assigned as teachers of gifted education because of the excessive work that is associated with such and their lack of capability in handling gifted children.

The purpose of this study is examine relationship of attribution styles and attitude toward Science and Science Process Skills of Science-gifted, to understand unique characteristics of the Science-gifted and to give useful information that can be use in develop special programs for the Science-gifted. The result of this study were as follows: First, there was no difference between genders. But there was a significant difference in attribution of luck. Second, there was a correlation between internal tendencies and Scientific attitude. Especially attribution of effort correlated with sub - constituent of Scientific attitude. Internal tendencies correlated with the Cognition in Scientific Professions that sub - constituent of the attitude toward Science. Third, There was a correlation between external tendencies and the interest activity in Science that sub - constituent of the attitude toward Science. There are correlations between sub - constituent of the attitude toward Science and sub - constituent of external tendencies that attribution of luck and interest in Scientific Professions, attribution of task difficulty and Cognition activity in Science. Fourth There was no correlation between Attribution styles and Science Process Skills. But Internal tendencies correlated with classification that sub - constituent of Science Process Skills. And classification correlated with attribution of ability that sub - constituent of external tendencies. Attribution of effort that sub - constituent of internal tendencies correlated with Science Process Skills.

The purpose of this study is, targeting 5th and 6th grades mathematically gifted elementary students, to analyze the effect of independent study project learning on self-directed learning ability and mathematical self-efficacy, and based on the results, examine the implications that independent study project learning has in special education for the gifted. In order to solve the study problems, 5th grade mathematically gifted elementary students(40) and 6th grade mathematically gifted elementary students(39) who had passed the selection criteria of D education institute for the gifted and had been receiving special education for the gifted were selected. The study results are as below. First, although self-directed learning ability had no significant difference at p<0.05, it statistically had some differences in averages between pre-test and post-test results. Second, although mathematical self-efficacy had no significant difference at p<0.05, it statistically had some differences in averages between pre-test and post-test results. Third, in the aspects of self-directed learning ability and mathematical self-efficacy, independent study project learning had a more positive effect on 5th grade mathematically gifted elementary students than 6th grade mathematically gifted elementary students. In addition, it had significant differences in 'the level of mathematical tasks', a sub-level of mathematical self-efficacy, and 'the openness of learning', 'the initiative of learning', and 'a sense of responsibility for learning', sub-levels of self-directed learning ability. These results imply that independent study project learning has a positive effect on self-directed learning ability and mathematical self-efficacy of mathematically gifted elementary students so that it could be meaningfully used as a teaching method for special education for the gifted at educational sites of independent study project learning.

This study is focused on the gifted education program, "EEE" of Columbia Public Schools in Missouri. This program is recommended to follow NAGC Pre-K-Grade 12 Gifted programming standards(NAGC, 2010) and Missouri school laws(MDESE, 2012b), but is allowed to run autonomically without any support in a federal or state level. The characteristics of EEE are as follows: ${\cdot}$ emphasizing not only on the cognitive development but also on the social and affective/emotional development of the gifted students ${\cdot}$ encouraging each student's own interest by allowing him/her to select his/her major and minor ${\cdot}$ the variety of classes ${\cdot}$ the call-up class - discriminating from regular classes ${\cdot}$ the interdisciplinary approach - connecting many subjects around the main idea ${\cdot}$ the activity-based learning such as hands-on activities, projects, and simple experiments ${\cdot}$ using the individual activity as well as pair or group activity In special, this paper also contains an example of program about mathematics and suggests some implications for gifted education programs in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship of communication skills and self-directed learning ability between mathematically gifted elementary students and non-gifted students. The subjects include 126 mathematically gifted elementary students from gifted education centers and gifted classes in elementary schools in D Metropolitan City and 124 non-gifted students that were non categorized as gifted students or special children in the same city. Employed in the study were the tests of communication skills and self-directed learning ability. Through this study, there are notable differences in communication skills and self-directed learning ability between mathematically gifted students and non-gifted students. Thus, those communication skills and self-directed learning ability should be taken into account when organizing and running a curriculum. In addition, developing a program for mathematically gifted students, as well as in teaching and learning communication skills and self-directed learning ability sufficient to consider the interrelationships between.
The purpose of this paper is to compare affective characteristics of mathematically gifted children and average students, by analying self-tests of self-efficacy and attitudes about mathematics. we survey 109 children from Mathematically Gifted Education Institutes located in Busan, and students from 6 elementary schools, each two graded A, B, and C, where schools graded A and B refer to so-called schools with concurrent and general classes and C schools with, semi-special and special classes ones. Those schools are determined through the consideration of geographical, cultural, and environmental conditions of 48 elementary schools under Seobu Educational Office, Busan Metropolitan City. From each of the six schools, a 5th-grade class is selected. That is, 205 students from 6 classes are finally selected. Results of the study can be described as follows. First, mathematically gifted children score higher on whole attitudes about mathematics and interest, preference, and confidence in each subarea than children from schools whose location is classified as A, B, and C. Irrespective of genders, mathematically gifted children are scored higher in the whole attitudes about mathematics than children from schools classified as A, B, and C. Second, mathematically gifted children are higher in score for self-efficacy than children from schools graded A, B, and C. Regardless of gender, mathematically gifted children are scored higher in self-efficacy than other groups of children. But mathematically gifted children's score is not significantly higher than that of children form schools graded A.
Values can be regarded as an important factor which acts as an indicator showing each person's individual path of life. many researchers have suggested that values function as standards that guide thought and action. Values lead us to take particular positions on social issues and they predispose us to favor one perspective over another. Adolescence is an important period for the establishment of one's values. The values established during such a period become an important factor determining one's right personality and contents of life. In particular, it is important to take a study about the values possessed by gifted and talented children in Korea. There have been several researches regarding the cognitive and affective characteristics of gifted and talented learners in Korea. However, there has not been any research regarding their values in life. This study investigates the characteristics of values shown by 468 high-school students from two special schools for gifted students by using Schwartz's Value Survey Scale which is consisted of 57 value categories and 10 value types. According to the results of this study, the students from the special high-school for gifted children tend to promote such value types as 'autonomy' and 'stimulation' the most. Conversely, the same students tend to deny or ignore such value types as 'power' and 'tradition'. This study provides basic data regarding the values of gifted and talented students as the first research of its kind targeting gifted students in Korea. It has an important meaning for the research related to the characteristics shown by gifted students in Korea.
The purpose of the study was to research science gifted students' learning styles and perceptions on subject matter content. The data was collected from primary science and mathematics classes of a University Center for Science Gifted Education, science classes of a Metrocity Primary Gifted Education Institute, and classes of a normal school. The results of the study were that gifted students perceived the school curriculum much easier than non-gifted students did, ($X^2(4)=33.180$, p<.001), and that levels of interest in the content did not differ between the groups, but 34.6 percent of the total students responded that they found the content uninteresting. Gifted students did not see the content as being important compared to the non-gifted students, ($X^2(4)=12.443$, p<.05), and gifted students valued the methods used higher than the actual content of the textbook. The most helpful activities for their teaming that gifted students chose were projects, listening to teachers, and conducting experiments, amongst others. They also preformed 'teaming at their own speed in a mixed group'" for the study of social studies, science, and mathematics, whereas non-gifted students preformed teaming at the same speed. The two groups of science gifted students varied especially in their perceptions of most helpful activities. It is suggested that special programs for fulfilling gifted students' needs and abilities need to be developed and implemented.

This study is to analyze how is the gifted in Informatics student's cognitive features different from others and present standard for screening. So ultimately, I hope this study contribute to the promising perspective and curriculum development for gifted elementary school students in information science. And hopefully give an Implications for the way forward as an information special education by study of problem solving skills that underlie the learning ability. These skills are being able to collect, analyze, synthesize and apply the informations so that make sustainable development possible. Therefor, the ultimate goal of this study is to provide better education for the gifted in Informatics student's basic learning skills.
