  • This paper proposes some alternative classes of shrinkage estimators and analyzes their properties. In particular, some new shrinkage estimators are identified and compared with Pandey (1983), Pandey and Srivastav (1985) and Jani (1991) estimators. Numerical illustrations are also provided.

  • The shrinkage preliminary test ridge regression estimators (SPTRRE) based on Wald (W), Likelihood Ratio (LR) and Lagrangian Multiplier (LM) tests for estimating the regression parameters of the multiple linear regression model with multivariate Student's t error distribution are considered in this paper. The quadratic biases and risks of the proposed estimators are compared under both null and alternative hypotheses. It is observed that there is conflict among the three estimators with respect to their risks because of certain inequalities that exist among the test statistics. In the neighborhood of the restriction, the SPTRRE based on LM test has the smallest risk followed by the estimators based on LR and W tests. However, the SPTRRE based on W test performs the best followed by the LR and LM based estimators when the parameters move away from the subspace of the restrictions. Some tables for the maximum and minimum guaranteed efficiency of the proposed estimators have been given, which allow us to determine the optimum level of significance corresponding to the optimum estimator among proposed estimators. It is evident that in the choice of the smallest significance level to yield the best estimator the SPTRRE based on Wald test dominates the other two estimators.

  • It is well known that using any additional information in the estimation of unknown parameters with new sample of observations diminishes the sampling units needed and minimizes the risk of new estimators. There are many rational reasons to assure that the existence of additional information in practice and there exists many practical cases in which additional information is available in the form of target value (initial value) about the unknown parameters. This article is described the problem of how the prior initial value about the unknown parameters can be utilized and combined with classical Bayes estimator to get a new combination of Bayes estimator and prior value to improve the properties of the new combination. In this article, two classes of Bayes-shrinkage and preliminary test Bayes-shrinkage estimators are proposed for the scale parameter of exponential distribution. The bias, risk and risk ratio expressions are derived and studied. The performance of the proposed classes of estimators is studied for different choices of constants engaged in the estimators. The comparisons, conclusions and recommendations are demonstrated.

  • Almost all small area estimations are obtained by minimizing the mean squared error. Recently relative error prediction methods have been developed and adapted to small area estimation. Usually the estimators obtained by using relative error prediction is called a shrinkage estimator. Especially when data set consists of large range values, the shrinkage estimator is known as having good statistical properties and an easy interpretation. In this paper we study the shrinkage estimators based on logistic regression type estimators for small area estimation. Some simulation studies are performed and the Economically Active Population Survey data of 2005 is used for comparison.

  • Partial least squares regression (PLS) is a biased, non-least squares regression method and is an alternative to the ordinary least squares regression (OLS) when predictors are highly collinear or predictors outnumber observations. One way to understand the properties of biased regression methods is to know how the estimators shrink the OLS estimator. In this paper, we introduce an expression for the shrinkage factor of PLS and develop a new shrinkage expression, and then prove the equivalence of the two representations. We use two near-infrared (NIR) data sets to show general behavior of the shrinkage and in particular for what eigendirections PLS expands the OLS coefficients.

  • Three remarks are offered, pertaining to classes of estimators Pitman-dominating a given estimator. The first remark concerns incorporating general loss in the construction of such classes. The second remark concerns Pitman domination comparisons amongst the members of such classes. The third remark concerns construction of such a class in the location-scale case.

  • Exponential distribution plays a key role in engineering reliability and its applications. The exponential failure model has been studied for years. This article introduces two new preliminary test estimators for the reliability function (R(t)) in complete and censored samples from the exponential model with the use of a prior estimation (${\theta}_0$) of the mean (${\theta}$). The proposed preliminary test estimators are studied and compared numerically with the existing estimators. Computer-intensive calculations for bias and relative efficiency show that for, different values of levels of significance and for varying constants involved in the proposed estimators, the proposed estimators are far better than classical and existing estimators.

  • Consider the problem of estimating a $p{\times}1$ mean vector ${\theta}(p-r{\geq}3)$, r = rank(K) with a projection matrix K under the quadratic loss, based on a sample $Y_1$, $Y_2$, ${\cdots}$, $Y_n$. In this paper a James-Stein type estimator with shrinkage form is given when it's variance distribution is specified and when the norm ${\parallel}{\theta}-K{\theta}{\parallel}$ is constrain, where K is an idempotent and symmetric matrix and rank(K) = r. It is characterized a minimal complete class of James-Stein type estimators in this case. And the subclass of James-Stein type estimators that dominate the sample mean is derived.
