This study intended on analyzing the error patterns of mathematic problem posing sentences by the 100 elementary pre-teachers and discussing about the solutions. The results showed that the problem posing sentences have five error patterns: phonological error patterns, word error patterns, sentence error patterns, meaning error patterns, and notation error patterns. Divided into fourteen specific error patterns, they are as in the following. 1) Phonological error patterns are consisted of the 'ㄹ' addition error pattern and the abbreviated word error pattern. 2) Words error patterns are divided with the inappropriate usage of word error pattern and the inadequate abbreviation error pattern, which are formulized four subgroups such as the case maker, ending of the word, inappropriate usage of word, and inadequate abbreviation of article or word error pattern in detail. 3) Sentence error patterns are assumed four kinds of forms: the reference, ellipsis of sentence component, word order, and incomplete sentence error pattern. 4) Meaning error patterns are composed the logical contradiction and the ambiguous meaning. 5) Notation error patterns are formed four patterns as the spacing, punctuation, orthography of Hangul, and spelling rules of foreign words in Korean. Furthermore, the solutions for these error patterns were discussed: First, it has to be perceived the differences between spoken and written language. Second, it has to be rejected the spoken expressions in written contexts. Third, it should be focused on the learning of the basic sentence patterns during the class. Forth, it is suggested that the word meaning should have the logical development perception based on what it means. Finally, it is proposed that the system of spelling of Korean has to be learned. In addition to these suggestions, a new understanding is necessary regarding writing education for college students.

Till now, Korean spelling proofreading system has corrected words of a sentence from the relationship of a collocation or the grammatical information of the sentence. In this paper, we propose a system that corrects a word using the relationship among the sememes in a single sentence and substitutes an apt word for a word of the sentence that has the meaningful mistake by a mistyping. The proposed system makes several sentences that are able to communicate with each sememe. The substantives forms meaning tree according to the meaning of the word and the predicate of a sentence defines the meaningful relationship between a substantives of the subject and the object. After this system compares and analyzes the relationship of meaning, it corrects the mistyping of a word in a single sentence that includes an error. If the system finds out the semantic error by the mistyping, it applies the spelling proofreading method that proposed in this paper.

The purposes of this study are to analyze sentence structures of word problems suggested in educational math programs for the 2nd grade elementary students and error patterns in sentence interpretation, and examine how sentence structures influence on errors during sentence comprehension. Based on the results of the analysis on 168 word problems suggested in math textbooks for the 2nd grade elementary students and error patterns observed while 160 the 2nd grade elementary students attempted to solve math word problems, easy and simple vocabularies are repeatedly used in the sentence structures of word problems and specific real life materials such as fruits, books, the number of people and etc. were repeatedly used. 51.56% of errors in sentence interpretation observed was higher than 39.20% of calculation errors and backtracking operation, a length of sentences, the numbers used in questions and off were analyzed to be involved in the errors in interpretation. Therefore, it is very important to make word problems from a student's points of view rather than a teacher's point of view and the study suggests that teachers help students learn basic sentence interpretation skills.
The purpose of developing an automated scoring system for English composition is to score the tests for writing English sentences and to give feedback on them without human's efforts. This paper presents an automated system to score English composition, whose input is a single sentence, not an essay. Dealing with a single sentence as an input has some advantages on comparing the input with the given answers by human teachers and giving detailed feedback to the test takers. The system has been developed and tested with the real test data collected through English tests given to the third grade students in junior high school. Two steps of the process are required to score a single sentence. The first process is analyzing the input sentence in order to detect possible errors, such as spelling errors, syntactic errors and so on. The second process is comparing the input sentence with the given answer to identify the differences as errors. The results produced by the system were then compared with those provided by human raters.
Application systems of natural language processing such as machine translation system must deal with actual texts including the full range of linguistic phenomena. But it seems to be impossible that the existing grammar covers completely such actual texts because they include disruptive factors such as long sentences, unexpected sentence patterns and erroneous input to obstruct well-formed analysis of a sentence. In order to solve analysis failure due to the disruptive factors or incorrect selection of correct parse tree among forest parse trees, this paper proposes two-level computational grammar which consists of a constraint-based grammar and an error-tolerant grammar. The constraint-based computational grammar is the grammar that gives us the well-formed analysis of English texts. The error-tolerant computational grammar is the grammar that reconstructs a comprehensible whole sentence structure with partially successful parse trees within failed parsing results.
The purpose of this study is to present evidence for a particular processing approach based on the language-specific characteristics of Korean. To compare individuals' sentence-comprehension abilities, this study measured the accuracy and reaction times (RT) of 12 aphasic patients (AP) and 12 normal controls (NC) during a sentence-picture matching task. Four versions of a sentence were constructed with the two types of voice (active/passive) and two types of word order (agent-first/patient-first). To examine the effects of increased processing demand, picture stimuli were manipulated in such a way that they appeared immediately after the sentence was presented. As expected, the AP group showed higher error rates and longer RT for all conditions than the NC group. Furthermore, Korean speakers with aphasia performed above a chance level in sentence comprehension, even with passive sentences. Aphasics understood sentences more quickly and accurately when they were given in the active voice and with agent-first order. The patterns of the NC group were similar. These results confirm that Korean adults with aphasia do not completely lose their knowledge of sentence comprehension. When the processing demand was increased by delaying the picture stimulus onset, the effect of increased processing demands on RT was more pronounced in the AP than in the NC group. These findings fit well with the idea that the computational system for interpreting sentences is intact in aphasics, but its ability is compromised when processing demands increase.
This paper deals with a part-specific analysis of grammatical errors in the production of the English passive in writing. The purpose of the study is dual: to explore common error types in forming the passive; and to provide plausible sources of the errors, with special attention to the role of the native language. To this end, this study obtained a large amount of data from Korean EFL university students using an essay writing task. The results show that in forming the passive sentence, errors were made in various ways and that the most common problem was the formation of the be-auxiliary, in particular, the proper use of tense and S-V agreement. Another important finding was that the global errors found in this study were not necessarily those with the greatest frequency. Also corroborated was the general claim that many factors work together to account for errors. In many cases, interlingual and intralingual factors were shown to interact with each other to explain the passive errors made by Korean students. On the basis of the results, suggestions are made for effective and well-formed use of the passive sentence.
Machine translation refers to a system where a computer translates a source sentence into a target sentence. There are various subfields of machine translation. APE (Automatic Post Editing) is a subfield of machine translation that produces better translations by editing the output of machine translation systems. In other words, it means the process of correcting errors included in the translations generated by the machine translation system to make proofreading. Rather than changing the machine translation model, this is a research field to improve the translation quality by correcting the result sentence of the machine translation system. Since 2015, APE has been selected for the WMT Shaed Task. and the performance evaluation uses TER (Translation Error Rate). Due to this, various studies on the APE model have been published recently, and this paper deals with the latest research trends in the field of APE.
The purpose of the present study is to develop a prototype automated scoring system for English writing. The system was developed for scoring writings of Korean middle school students. In order to develop the automated scoring system, following procedures have been applied. First, review and analysis of established automated essay scoring systems in other countries have been accomplished. By doing so, we could get the guidance for development of a new sentence-level automated scoring system for Korean EFL students. Second, knowledge base such as lexicon, grammar and WordNet for natural language processing and error corpus of English writing of Korean middle school students were established. Error corpus was established through the paper and pencil test with 589 third year middle school students. This study provided suggestions for the successful introduction of an automated scoring system in Korea. The automated scoring system developed in this study should be continuously upgraded to improve the accuracy of the scoring system. Also, it is suggested to develop an automated scoring system being able to carry out evaluation of English essay, not only sentence-level evaluation. The system needs to be upgraded for the improved precision, but, it was a successful introduction of an sentence-level automated scoring system for English writing in Korea.
The purpose of mathematics eduction is to develop the ability of thinking mathematically. It informs method to solve problem through mathematical thinking that teach mathematical ability. Errors in the problem solving can be thought as those in the mathematical thinking. Therefore analysis and classification of mathematics errors is important to teach mathematics. This study researches the preceding studies on mathematics errors and presents the characteristic of them with analyzed models. The results achieved by analysis of the process of problem solving are as follows : ▸ Students feel much harder to solve words problems rather than multiple-choice problems. ▸ The length of sentence make some differences of understanding of the words problems. Students easy to understand short sentence problems than long sentence problems. ▸ If students feel difficulties on the pre-learned mathematical content, they feel the same difficulties on the words problems based on the pre-learned mathematics content.
