  • Totally 588 specimens, which were excavated from well sites(I or II site) of near the new Kyungju National Museum building, were identified 32 species. Diospyros spp. and Fraxinus spp. were the most common and occupied 14.8%(I-site) or 20.9%(II-site), 14.1%(I-site) or 12.8%(II-site) of the total specimen number respectively. And then other common species were follows ; Pinus densiflora, Quercus spp., Castanea crenata, Prunus spp., Pourthiaea spp.. Because the I-site were adjacent to the II-site, the 13 out of 25(I-site) or 20(II-site) identified species were common. • To understand the influence of wet cleaning performed in the course of preserving paper items, the change of matter properties by before and after wet cleaning was observed. Specifically, structural and optical qualities and strength were measured. The result showed that wet cleaning caused a substance change in the paper items and particularly weakened the structure material of pigments, Chinese ink, dyes, etc.

  • We conduct the conservation treatment for the wooden well bucket excavated from civilian remains in Siji-Dong, Daegu. This bucket was in very poor condition, having been buried for a long time; thus, cetyl alcohol was used for the conservation. After replacing the water inside the wooden material with alcohol, the density of the cetyl alcohol was increased by 20, 40, 60, and 80% and immersed for two weeks at each step. After completing the immersion procedure, the remaining cetyl alcohol was removed, and the bucket, dried under normal atmosphere.

  • The residual lipid analysis has been used for finding out the information related to the life style of ancient people. In order to achieve this goal, it must be precedented by building a database of residual lipid analysis of the present creatures. In this study, we performed residual lipid analysis of a cow and a dog, which were the present samples. We hope the results of this study will be a primary reference for the future analysis of archaeological materials.

  • This study examines secondary school science teachers' use of science museums in their teaching and their perception/evaluation/utilization of the educational programs in Korean science museums. We found that teachers do not use science museums in close connection with their formal education; therefore, the students' experiences usually are minimal or are personal experiences. The main reason for this infrequent use of science museums is not because of their insignificant educational effects, but because of the lack of external and administrative support systems. Science teachers want the museums to have structured/organized programs such as science camps or experiments and a lending program which would provide experimental equipment and exhibits relevant to the school science curriculum. 90% of teachers who answered the survey wanted to participate in developing and managing the educational programs of science museums. The educational programs would be used more effectively in relation to formal science learning if the science teachers, who are science education professionals, participated in managing and planning the educational programs of science museums.
