  • 3D and BIM technology are presumed to be used more and more in the construction industry. The scope of this paper arose from a general wondering of how the constructor in general can benefit from the use of 3D models. Presented herewith is the first application of BIM in Korea to a actual bridge construction site located in Cheongpoong in Chooncheongbook-Do. This paper tries to integrate design, cost and schedule under location-based conditions with industry-specific solution for 3D modeling. 292 activities constitute the cable-stayed bridge of 442m long with a main span of 327m long. Integration of 3D model, cost and schedule is shown by comparing the measurements of works at a specific time by use of 2 different construction sequencing scenarios and cost breakdown structures.

  • Because sensor nodes operate with the limited power based on battery which cannot be easily replaced, energy efficiency is a fundamental issue pervading the design of communication protocols developed for wireless sensor networks. In wireless networks, energy efficient MAC protocols can usually be described as being either a contention-based protocol or a schedule-based protocol. It is suitable to use combination of both contention-based protocol and schedule-based protocol, because the strengths and weaknesses of these protocols are contrary to each other. In this paper, in order to minimize energy consumption of sensor nodes and maximize network lifetime, we propose a new MAC protocol called "Tiered-MAC" The Tiered-MAC uses a schedule-based TDMA inside maximum transmission range of sink node and a contention-based CSMA otherwise. Therefore, by efficiently managing the congested traffic area, the Tiered-MAC reduces the unnecessary energy consumption. Based on the ns-2 simulation result, we prove that the Tiered-MAC improves the energy-efficiency of sensor network nodes.

  • Existing 4D systems are using the 1:1 link system that directly links a schedule and a 3D model object. But considering that plant facility includes various kinds of schedule and 3D model object, this study suggests an improved link methodology of multi-selected objects and two-way link system for minimizing link errors which generated in case of multi-selected objects. For the link system, this study introduces a new concept called as interface board. Interface board can be used as an information center for representing all information of link items in the current project. It may be expected that 4D model can build an effective and rapid link system of plant project by this new approach.

  • Most current BIM systems are focused on the visual information of work status in the design and construction stages. In a passive BIM system, 3D CAD tool can visualize the interference elements of design drawings, however, it cannot suggest a solution to solve the interference status. And 4D CAD tool in the construction stage can simulate the appearance of each activity by construction schedule, however, it cannot suggest an optimized schedule plan considering specified schedule condition of the project. Recently, many organizations need BIM solutions that can improve the work status beyond the level of simple visual information from BIM system. Active BIM system can provide the solutions to the project manager. This study suggests active BIM functions for the solutions and attempts to develop a 4D CAD engine to validate the usability of the functions.

  • As the knowledge-based society has been constructed, the size of work process that has to be done grows bigger and the amount of the information that has to be analyzed increases. So each company is trying to construct more conformable process models in business model. In order to support the process construction of companies practically, in this paper tools of Six Sigma is applied to process definition and tools of PSP is applied schedule management. And to use the proposed tools efficiently, the procedure of process definition and schedule management are suggested. The goal of the proposed method is to achieve the process aim within the Time-To-Market by applying the process management of organizations and persons. And the goal of individuals is to improve personal process with the collected data.

  • When a client requests a set of data items at once, it is crucial to reduce the total time elapsed till the client receives all data items requested. This paper describes a data broadcasting technique that reduces access time for multiple data accesses from clients. The impact of the relative position of each data item in a broadcast schedule is dependent on the degree of data replication between data requests from clients. The relative broadcast frequencies for data items are affected by the degree of access skewness from clients. This paper proposes a technique for generation of a hierarchical data broadcast schedule, which can support multiple data accesses effectively by considering the data sharing among client requests and data access skewness together. Simulation results show that the proposed technique consistently performs better than the previous research results in various environments.

  • In order to increase the practical usability of the virtual reality(VR)-based BIM object in the construction site, the difference between the virtual image and the real image should be resolved, and when it is applied to the construction schedule management function, it is necessary to reduce the image gap between the virtual completion and the actual completion. In this study, in order to solve this problem, a prototype of 4D model is developed in which augmented reality (AR) and 3D printing technologies are linked, and the practical usability of a 4D model linked with two technologies is verified. When a schedule simulation is implemented by combining a three-dimensional output and an AR object, it is possible to provide more intuitive information as a tangible image-based schedule information when compared to a simple VR-based 4D model. In this study, a methodology and system development of an AR implementation system in which subsequent activities are simulated in 4D model using markers on 3D printing outputs are attempted.

  • Connecting with cost, schedule, and quality in a construction project, resource management is one of the essential management elements. However, the material requirement planning is built at the beginning stage of construction and needs various concerned factors, it is limited to build the resource management planning on enterprise level. The disconnected communication among managements makes impossible to control historical data. In the construction project control system, the core of management elements is to manage cost and schedule information, therefore material requirement planning should be established based on historical data about EVM which is intergating schedule and cost. In this study, a resource management system concerning material requirement planning and attribute of procurement is suggested by connecting the historical data of EVM and the material requirement planning.

  • This study attempts to develop a skeleton model to link construction schedule and 3D object for drawings in 4D system. Generally, the construction schedule and 3D object can be linked in 4D system by imported files which are made in specific S/Ws such as CAD S/W and scheduling S/W. Those methods have a difficulties for operating 4D data because extra work needs to link 4D data for each activity. This study develops a 4D model which the 4D data can be self-generated within the system. The suggested model can reduce the initial input data for new project by integrating schedule and 3D object in 4D system.
