  • We have developed a seeing monitoring system and measured seeing variation of the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) and the Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO) using a small telescope system. Our seeing monitoring system is similar to the differential image motion monitor (DIMM) installed at the ESO. The ooly difference between the BOAO and the SOAO seeing monitoring system is a detector system, a video camera at the BOAO and ST-4 camera at the SOAO. We confirmed that the seeing monitoring system at the SOAO can measure average seeing size inspite of its simple detector system. From the BOAO seeing measurement, we found that the seeing size changes fast. We expect that our seeing monitoring system could be used for real time seeing monitoring after some improvement, and the data to be obtained would be very useful when we build adaptive optic system in the future.

  • In-shoe measurement systems allow the clinician and researcher to examine the pressure parameters within the shoe. The purpose of this study was to investigate the test-retest reliability of plantar pressures using the Parotec system over speeds and plantar regions. Seventeen healthy subjects were recruited for the study. Sampling rate was 100 Hz, and data of six variables (pressure on medial heel, lateral heel, 1st metatarsal head, 5th metatarsal head, and great toe and total impulse) were collected in four different gait speed (1.0 m/sec, 1.5 m/sec, 2.0 m/sec, and comfortable walking speed) in each day. The result indicates fair to excellent reliability between the two day test. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) ranged from .693 to .979, and range of reliability was similar depending on the speed and plantar region. In most cases, data recorded by the Parotec systems provide good evidence for the reliability.

  • Implantable central venous catheters (Chemoport) are increasingly being used for vascular access, parenteral nutrition and administering chemotherapeutic agents. As with most invasive procedures, central venous catheterization is associated with numerous potential complications such as infection, thoromboembolism and occlusion. A rare but serous complication is the catheter fracture. We present here three cases of catheter fracture as a consequence of Pinch off syndrome, and we include a review of the relevant literature.

  • Entering the 21st century, countries throughout the world are turning the direction of their education to be consumer-oriented and reinforcing lifelong education in preparation for the rapid advance of science and technology and the globalization, opening and informatization of the world. With the reinforcement of consumer-oriented education and lifelong education, the role of school is emphasized as a ground for lifelong education in community and efforts are being made to use schools and community facilities compositely so that schools may play the role of central facilities in community. Accordingly, the objective of this study is to analyze the relation between lifelong education and school facilities in the educational aspect, and to suggest a basic architectural direction so that schools may play central roles for social, cultural, educational, welfare, and sport activities in community.

  • In this study, the experimental open-tube and close-tube thermoacoustic apparatuses were constructed. In order to determine the optimum length of resonant tube, frequency and the optimum length of stack, the resonant characteristics of thermoacoustic apparatuses were investigated, The length of resonant tube varies from 400mm to 850 mm. The experimental frequency varies from 100 Hz to 1000 Hz. In case of first harmonic, the maximum temperature difference of the open-tube thermoacoustic apparatus is 41$^{\circ}C$)resonator length: 500 mm), and the maximum temperature difference of the close-tube thermoacoustic apparatus is 42$^{\circ}C$ (resonator length : 850 mm).

  • This study investigated the quality of after-school programs focused on artistic-physical activities, children's emotional regulation and social competence. The subjects were 224 elementary school children (1st through 6th grades) and 41 teachers. The measures were questionnaire(after-school activities), Assessment Profile for Early Childhood Programs(school-age), the Emotional Regulation Scale. and the Social Competency Scale. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's a, frequency, percentile, mean, and t-test. The results indicated that emotional regulation and, social competence were significantly different according to the quality of after-school programs: Children in a higher group of curriculum quality and interaction with teacher had better emotional regulation than did children in a lower group. Children in a higher group of curriculum quality and scheduling had better social competence(leadership and competence) than did children in a lower group.

  • Labor required for managing and harvesting the oyster mushroom bed was evaluated. Although vinyl mulching cultivation method needs more hours for spawning, it saves more than 50% of labor for harvesting and managing of the mushroom bed. Harvesting hour of 1st-3rd flush in vinyl mulching method was 48~50% for Plerutus ostreatus and 36~41% for P. sajor-caju. Labor for bed management after harvesting in vinyl mulching method was also 38~50% for P. ostreatus compared to conventional method, and 20~35% for P. sajor-caju. Vinyl mulching is believed to be a very efficient method for saving labor in oyster mushroom cultivation.

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the facial, lingual and gingival walls of the cavity walls with various kinds of cutting tools. Class II cavities were prepared in newly extracted sound humen mandibular 1st left premolars, and observed in Sanning electron microscope. Diamond point (#201) and Tungsten Carbide burs (#170L) were used in ultra high speed handpieces (rpm 200000), and Tungsten Carbide bur (#702) and Steel bur (#560) were used in conventional handpieces (rpm 6000). All cavities were prepared under water spray, except for some which were finished with a dry abrasive stone (#57). Some cavities were finished with chisels (#41, 42, 83). The following results were obtained. 1. The cavity walls prepared with Diamond point were rougher than the cavity walls with Carbide burs and Steel burs. 2. The chisels were produced the smoothest surface. 3. The cavity walls which were prepared with cutting blades rotated toward enamel surface from outside, were smoother than cavity walls which were prepared with cutting blades rotated toward outside from the enamel surface.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the curricula of kindergarten and elementary school and to present a plan for connecting the two curricula. The curricula emphasized mathematical thinking and problem solving instead of fragmentary knowledge and adopted the streamed curriculum based on children’s ability and interest. And both of them consisted of number and operation, geometry, measurement, statistics, and put emphasis on activity such as real life experience, play, manipulation of concrete objects, and communication. However, there are some kinds of differences between them, because the kindergarten curriculum is not included in the common curriculum, from 1st grade to 10th grade. Thus, this study recommended several ideas based. Thus, this study recommended several ideas based on theories to connect the mathematics curricula of kindergarten and elementary school.
