  • Time Stretched Pulse (TSP) is used for transmitting and analyzing the impulse signal over the designated spatial place. However, if transfer functions of transmitter and receiver are unknown, performance investigation of free field in temporal domain is barely possible due to the overlap between the direct and indirect signal from the space. Generally, the free field or hemi-free field is evaluated by the Annex A of ISO 3745 in which utilizing the inverse square law with one-third octave band signals. In this paper, the author performs analysis of free field via applying TSP with inverse square law and the results are compared with the one-third octave band signals. According to the analysis of deviation between the corresponding signal and inverse square law model, the proposed TSP method provides the comparable performance index to the one-third octave band signal with reduced measuring time. Provided that the pre-whitening can be implementable by employing the speaker and microphone transfer function, further analyses from TSP compression are able to be performed such as multipath separation from time domain data. The anechoic chamber used in this experiment is verified conformance with ISO 3745 for free field and hemi-free field condition for limited frequency of the signal.

  • Two kinds of QMF(Quadrature Mirror Filter) pairs are used in JPEG2000 standard, which don't have QMF distortions. However, the QMF pairs have the main disadvantages such that there are gentle roll-off rate, ripples in the passband and unequal band decomposition. In this paper, Maxflat(maximally flat) QMF pairs with a half-band gain are proposed for overcoming these problems. Maxflat QMF pairs are realized due to generalized closed-form formulas, and the filters have maximally flat response in the passband/stopband as well as sharp roll-off rate in the transition band. Comparing proposed filters and JPEG2000's filters in frequency domain, it is found that proposed filters have better performance JPEG2000's filters. Moreover, Maxflat QMF pairs show stopband-attenuation exceeding 200 dB almost everywhere.

  • In this paper, we propose efficient multispectral image compression using variable block size vector quantization (VQ). In wavelet domain, we perform the variable block size VQ to remove intraband redundancy for a reference band image that has the lowest spatial variance and the best correlation with other band. And in wavelet domain, we perform the classified interband prediction to remove interband redundancy for the remaining bands. Then error wavelet coefficients between original image and predicted image are residual variable block size vector quantized to reduce prediction error. Experiments on remotely sensed satellite image show that coding efficiency of the proposed method is better than that of the conventional method.

  • Eigendecomposition based direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation algorithm such as MUSIC(multiple signal classification) is known to perform well and provide high resolution in white noise environment. However, its performance degrades severely when the noise process is not white. In this paper we consider the DOA estimation problem in a colored noise environment as a problem of extracting periodic signals from noise, and we take the problem to the wavelet domain. Covariance matrix of multiscale components which are obtained by taking wavelet decomposition on the noise has a special structure which can be approximated with a banded sparse matrix. Compared with noise the correlation between multiscale components of narrowband signal decays slowly, hence the covariance matrix does not have a banded structure. Based on this fact we propose a DOA estimation algorithm that transforms the covariance matrix into wavelet domain and removes noise components located in specific bands. Simulations have been carried out to analyze the proposed algorithm in colored noise processes with various correlation properties.

  • This paper presents a rapid watermarking algorithm based on DC image, which provides a resilience to geometric distortion. Our proposed scheme is based on $8{\times}8$ block DCT that is widely used in image/video compression techniques (e.g., JPEG and MPEG). In particular, a DC image is analyzed by DWT to embed a watermark. To overcome a quality degradation caused by a watermark insertion into DC components, we discern carefully the intensity and amount of watermark along the different subbands of DWT. Note that the proposed technique supports a high throughput for a real-time watermark insertion and extraction by relying on a partial decoding (i.e., DC components) on $8{\times}8$ block DCT domain. Experimental result shows that the proposed watermarking scheme significantly reduces computation time of 82% compared with existing DC component based algorithm and yet provides invariant properties against various attacks such as geometric distortion and JPEG compression, etc.

  • Recently, the technologies of adaptive noise cancellation(ANC) are developed fast and widely due to the highly sophisticated digital signal processing algorithms and the high-speed communication networks and devices. But, thousand numbers of the adaptive filter taps are required to obtain the satisfying results in the fields of the adaptive noise cancellation and echo cancellation. In the paper, performance comparisons based on the real-time processing between frequency domain adaptive filter(FDAF) and multi-delay frequency domain adaptive filter(MDF) are carried. Those algorithms provide us with the reductions of the computational burdens and the increase of the convergence rate for the lengthy Fill adaptive filters. The time delay due to the long taps of FDAF can be reduced by adopting the MDF algorithms. The conventional ANC and cross talks ANC using FDAF are implemented on the dSP ACE 1103 real-time signal processing board.

  • Paenibacillus xylanilyticus KJ-03 was isolated from soil samples obtained from a field with Amorphophallus konjac plants. A gene encoding xylanase was isolated from KJ-03 and cloned using a fosmid library. The xynA gene encodes xylanase; it consists of 1,035 bp and encodes 345 amino acids. The amino acid sequence deduced from the P. xylanilyticus KJ-03 xylanase showed 81% and 69% identities with those deduced from the P. polymyxa E681 and Paenibacillus sp. HPL-001 xylanases, respectively. The xynA gene comprises a single domain, consisting of a catalytic domain of the glycosyl hydrolase (GH) 10 family. The xynA gene was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (trxB), and the recombinant xylanase was purified by Niaffinity chromatography. The purified xylanase showed optimum activity with birchwood xylan as a substrate at $40^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.4. Treatment with $Mg^{2+}$ and $Li^+$ showed a slight decrease in XynA activity; however, treatment with 5 mM $Cu^{2+}$ completely inhibited its activity. The results of the thin layer chromatography analysis indicated that the major hydrolysis product was xylobiose and small amounts of xylose and xylotriose. XynA showed increased activity with oat spelt xylan and birchwood xylan, but showed only slight activity with locust bean gum.

  • A motion vector re-estimation algorithm for image downscaling in discrete consine transform domain is presented. Kernel functions are difined using SAD (Aum of Absolute Difference) and edge information of a macroblock. The proposed method uses these kernel functions to re-estimate a new motion vector of the downscaled image. The motion vectors from the incoming bitstream of transcoder are reused to reduce computation burden of the block-matching motion estimation, and we also reuse the given motion vectors. Several experiments in this paper show that the computation efficiency and the PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) and better than the previous methods.

  • In this paper, we propose a texture classification using wavelet-domain BDIP (block difference of inverse probabilities) and BVLC (block variance of local correlation coefficients) features with WPCA (whitened principal component analysis) classifier. In the proposed method, the wavelet transform is first applied to a query image. The BDIP and BVLC operators are next applied to the wavelet subbands. Global moments for each subband of BDIP and BVLC are then computed and fused into a feature vector. In classification, the WPCA classifier, which is usually adopted in the face identification, searches the training feature vector most similar to the query feature vector. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields excellent texture classification with low feature dimension for test texture image DBs.

  • Lossless data embedding is a method to insert information into a host image that guarantees complete restoration when the extraction has been done. In this paper, we propose a noble reversible data embedding algorithm for images in wavelet domain. The proposed embedding technique, which modifies histogram of wavelet coefficient, is composed of two inserting steps. Data is embedded to wavelet coefficient using modification of histogram in first embedding process. Second embedding step compensates the distortion caused by the first embedding process as well as hides more information. Hence we achieve higher inserting capacity. In view of the relationship between the embedding capacity and the PSNR value, our proposed method shows considerably higher performance than the current reversible data embedding methods.
