  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of SNS addiction on cyber-bullying among adolescents, considering the adjustment effect of friendship on this relationship. This study involved 811 middle/high school students with a gender distribution of 391 males and 420 females. According to the analysis, the higher the level of SNS addiction, the higher the level of cyber-bullying. A hierarchical regression analysis was conducted to verify the moderating effect of friendship. The result shows that better peer communication and reliance lowers the impact of cyber-bullying from SNS addiction. Based on research results suggesting the popularization of proactive pre-diagnosis programs to solve SNS addiction, practical intervention plans and the limitations of research on SNS addiction and cyber-bullying in youth are suggested.

  • The ultimate purpose of psychotherapy is to identify covert causes of a psychological problem and then to modify and change the causes. The goal of this study is also to make contribution to SNS addiction intervention program development through exploring the covert causes of SNS addiction which recently became social issue. Previous research identified such overt causes of SNS addiction as maladaptive self-concept (e.g., low self-esteem), maladaptive personality (e.g., strong narcissism) and strong negative emotions (e.g., high level of anxiety). Based on previous research, the study explored early maladaptive schema (i.e., cognitive dimension) and emotion dysregulation (i.e., emotional dimension) as the covert causes of SNS addiction and conceptually developed psychological maladaptive mechanism of 'early maladaptive schema ${\rightarrow}$ emotion dysregulation ${\rightarrow}$ SNS addiction.' As a result of a survey with respondents in their 20's who are at high risk for SNS addiction, the mechanism was confirmed for females. However, a significant relationship of 'early maladaptive schema ${\rightarrow}$ SNS addiction' was found for males. The findings offer an implication that interventions of early maladaptive schema for males and females in their 20's and interventions of emotion dysregulation for females in their 20's can fundamentally help cure their SNS addiction.

It was conducted to measure anger expression, covert narcissism, and SNS addiction proneness from 252(132 male, 120 female) university students. The mediating effect was analyzed through Preacher and Hayes' SPSS Macro and bootstrapping analysis. As a result of analysis, first, there were positive relationship among covert narcissism, anger expression, and SNS addiction proneness. Second, anger-out had significant mediating effect within the relationship of covert narcissism and SNS addiction proneness. Third, anger-out had significant mediating effect within the relationship of covert narcissism and disturbance of adaptive life and control failure, preoccupation and tolerance, avoidance of negative emotions. Forth, anger-in and anger-control had significant mediating effect within the relationship of covert narcissism and virtual life orientation and withdrawal. Implications of these results were explored in relation to the importance of covert narcissism and SNS addiction proneness. In addition, this implication and suggestions for future research are provided.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of parental attachment and ego resiliency in the tendency toward social networking site (SNS) addiction in college students. For this purpose, 382 college students in the Jeju area were surveyed and their responses analyzed. To analyze the collected data, structural equations were implemented using SPSS Statistics version 18.0. According to the results of the study, there is a significant negative correlation between attachment formation and SNS intoxication in college students, and a negative correlation between ego resiliency and SNS addiction. Also, there is a significant positive correlation between formation of parental attachment and ego resiliency in college students, indicating that parental attachment and ego resiliency are significant factors in lowering SNS addiction. Second, in order to examine the mediating effects of ego resiliency in the relationship between the formation of parental attachment and SNS addiction in college students, a research model and a competition model were established and verified. As a result, the relationship between parent attachment and SNS addiction was mediated completely, and the research model is more appropriate. These findings suggest that ego resiliency is of practical significance in seeking ways to improve the problem of SNS addiction in the future. In other words, overuse of SNSs by university students can lead to addiction, but strengthening ego resiliency enables sound SNS use.

  • The current study analyzes the usage of social network services(SNS) according to one's collectivistic and individualistic tendency and the relationship with addiction. Additionally, the study attempted to controll intrapersonal variables such as gender, personalitly, and age, which affect SNS the usage. Also, Collectivistic-individualistic tendency in SNS and offline environment may not correspond to one another. Therefore, the study measured the collectivistic-individualistic tendency regarding of the two environment separately. For this purpose, we designed a new measurement scale to measure collectivistic-individualistic tendencies in for the SNS by involving a kin vs nonkin context. The sample consisted of 253 adolescents ranging from 13 to 15 years old and 246 adults ranging from 18 to 25 years old, which sums up to 499 samples in total. Results indicated that individualistic tendency within SNS showed a positive relationship with the amount of SNS usage and SNS addiction. Furthermore, female users spent more time on SNS and showed a higher level addiction than males. While adults had longer experience with SNS and spent more time on it daily than adolescents, they did not show a significant difference in regards to SNS addiction. The correlation analysis indicated that collectivistic-individualistic tendencies in SNS were weakly correlated to that of offline environments. The kin individualistic tendency in SNS significantly predicted SNS addiction after controlling for the effect of age, personality, gender, and offline collectivistic-individualistic tendency. Taken together, these findings indicate the need for an appropriate collectivistic-individualist tendency scale that correspond to the SNS context. The results also suggest that kin individualistic tendency in the SNS environment can be the main factor for SNS addiction.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of SNS addiction tendency and social support on cyber violence among college students. Data collection was conducted through a structured questionnaire for 330 college students and analyzed through SPSS 18.0 program. As a result of the analysis, SNS addiction tendency was low as $1.81{\pm}0.55$, social support was $4.00{\pm}0.78$ and cyber violence was $1.38{\pm}0.59$. There was a significant positive correlation between SNS addiction tendency and SNS posting frequency, and there was a significant negative correlation between social support and grade. Cyber violence increased as the tendency of SNS addiction increased, as social support decreased, and cyber violence decreased in the second and third graders compared to the first grade. For this purpose, it is necessary to strengthen cyber education and group counseling program suitable for college students and it will be necessary to make effort to raise self - control.
