Transient Ground Impedance of Small-sized Ground Electrode considering Underground Discharge in Frozen Soil (동결 토양에서 지중방전을 고려한 소규모 전극의 과도접지임피던스 특성)

  • This paper presents the transient impedance in a discharge region when high voltage lightning impulse is applied to small-sized ground electrodes in frozen soil. For a realistic analysis of ionization characteristics near the ground electrode in the soil, ground rod installed outdoors and high voltage impulse voltage generator were used. From the analysis of response voltage and current flowing ground electrode to earth, it was verified that the ionization near the ground electrode contributes to reduction of ground impedance and limits the ground potential rise effectively under high impulse voltage.

  • In this paper the experiments of breakdown characteristics by pressure and gap change of imitation air were described. The results are fundamental data for electric insulation design of distribution power facilities which will be studied and developed in the future. And we could make an environment friendly gas insulation material with mataining dielectric strength by Imitation Air which generates a lower lever of the global warming effect.

  • Especially, the case which the facilities have been shielded in the building. In this case there must be suitable grounding system, and this case must be considered sufficiently to the one part of the design at the design. in addition there must be an electric leakage defense system and The case to be a criterion signal ground system. Rod type grounding electrodes is applied much and we studied the relation that rod type grounding method and shielding room as newly grounding object. in this paper, shield room is the object(target) to be established newly additionally, we try to describe about the flow of a grounding technology concept change and a ground facilities.

  • A street light is an electrical equipment to improve the traffic safety and the security for people in night. However, many accidents due to electric shock have happened in recent, people were interested in the safety of electrical facilities. And people want to know the danger by touch and step voltages. When the electric power lines fall down on the ground, the fault current flows to ground rod and the potential near the ground rod is increased to induce the high touch and step voltages. In this paper, we installed different ground rods with a street light and investigated the electrical potential according to ground methods and the types of ground rod. Finally, we examined the electrical facilities with the experimental result and present the improved technical data for the safety from electric shock

  • As in the measurement of ground resistance by using the 3 point fall-of-potential method, it is known that the distance of current electrode should be at the point of showing the plateu on the potential curve. But the problem is that it my be practically impossible to meet the condition in actual sites. For solving such a situation, this paper provides the least distance of current electrode according to the analysis for the test-field measurement showing that it is feasible to measure the ground resistance in the two in current electrode distance as the length of driven-rod type electrode and the some district length of mesh electrode.

  • Portable-type two electrode system for the determination of highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide (10-75%) has been studied. The electrode body was made with teflon rod (length=10 cm, diameter=1.5 cm) to withstand the highly corrosive power of hydrogen peroxide. Glass carbon rod (diameter=3 mm) was used as the working electrode and a carbon cylinder (i.d.=5 mm; o.d.=9 mm) was used as counter electrode. The applied voltage for the determination of $H_2O_2$ was 0.8 V. Diluting the highly concentrated samples taken from the industrial batch to 10% or less, it was possible to make quantitative determinations, while eliminating the interference from the stabilizer contained in the sample and preventing the surface of the electrode from oxidative corrosion. Employing hydrogen peroxide permeable membrane (teflon membrane${\leq}100{\mu}m$) for the electrode system, it was possible to measure the content of $H_2O_2$ in highly concentrated samples directly, quantitatively and reproducibly with no extra dilution step. However, it was necessary to change the internal electrolyte frequently to maintain the analytical performance of the electrode.

  • When high surge voltage invaded into the ground rod contacted with ground water, the ionization phenomena are happened in the water. Although some researchers have surveyed the ionization phenomena in soil, they have just analyzed the variation of the ground resistance. The most important role of the ground rod is to elect human beings from potential rise and to dissipate energy to the earth safely. In this wort we presented the method evaluating the potential reduction and energy dispersion. Also we analyzed theses factors as a function of charging voltages at the water resistivity of $50\;{\Omega}{\cdot}m$ using the Matlab Program. As a result the ground rod potential was reduced to 38 kV by ionization just below breakdown voltage. The energy more than half of the total injected energy was dispersed through the grounding electrode caused due to ionization.

Effects of Soil Discharges on the Impulsive Ground Impedance of Ground Rod with Needles (침상 접지봉의 임펄스접지임피던스에 미치는 지중방전의 영향)

  • Soil discharges near the ground rod play an important role to reduce the ground potential rise and the ground impedance and to help the fault current to spread into the earth. This paper presents the effects of soil discharges on the transient and conventional ground impedances when the lightning impulse voltage was applied to a ground rod with radial needles. The current-voltage (I-V)curves and transient ground impedance curves were calculated based on the measured current and potential traces. Soil discharge behaviors related to I-V curves and transient ground impedance curves were analyzed as a function of the magnitude of lightning impulse voltages. As a result, the soil discharges occurred near the ground electrode contribute to the reduction of conventional ground impedance and limits the ground potential rise effectively under lightning impulse voltages.

Lightning Impulse Breakdown Characteristic of Dry-Air/Silicone Rubber Hybrid Insulation in Rod-Plane Electrode

  • Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas is used widely in electric power equipment such as Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Gas Insulation transmission Line (GIL), and Gas Circuit Breaker (GCB). But applications of SF6 should be restricted because SF6 gas is one of the greenhouse effect gases. To reduce use of SF6 gas, a study on eco-friendly alternative insulation medium is needed. In this paper, we investigated lightning impulse (LI) breakdown of dry-air which is attracting attention as an ecofriendly alternative gas and the LI breakdown of hybrid insulation combined with dry-air and solid insulation (Room-Temperature Vulcanizing Silicone Rubber-RTV SIR) and dry-air in inhomogeneous fields according to gap distance and pressure. The experiment results showed that the LI breakdown strength of hybrid insulation system was higher than that of dry-air insulation system. It was verified that the development of technology related to eco-friendly power apparatus compact such GIS, GCB and GIL can be used as basic research data.

Distribution of Potential Rise as a Function of Shape of Grounding Electrodes

  • In order to analyze the potential rise of grounding systems installed in buildings, a hemispherical grounding simulation system was studied. Potential rise was measured and analyzed regarding the shape and distance of the grounding electrodes by using this system. The system was composed of a hemispherical water tank, AC power supply, a movable potentiometer, and test grounding electrodes. The potential rise was measured in real time by the horizontal moving probe of be potentiometer. The test grounding electrodes were fabricated through reducing the grounding electrode installed in real buildings such as the ground rod, grounding grid and so on. The potential rise was displayed in a two-dimensional profile and was analyzed regarding the shapes of the ground electrodes. The potential rise of the grounding grid combined with a ground rod was the lowest of every grounding electrode tested. The proposed results can be applicable to evaluating ground potential rise in grounding systems, and the analytical data can be used to stabilize the electrical installations and prevent electrical disasters.
