  • The performance analysis of optoelectronic oscillator(OEO) based on a directly modulated semiconductor laser was theoretically achieved. First, the analysis was performed on the open response of the key components that constitute the OEO loop. Using the results, we simulated the open-loop characteristics of the OEO loop. By combining oscillation conditions of loop oscillator in addition to the open-loop magnitude and phase responses, theoretical performance analysis such as OEO's oscillation frequency, spurious tones and phase noise was successfully completed.

  • This paper represents an adaptive position controller with the disturbance observer for multi-axis servo system. The overall control system consists of three parts : the position controller, the disturbance observer with free parameters and cross-coupled controller which enhances contouring performance by reducing errors. Using two-degrees-of freedom conception, we design the command input response and the closed loop characteristics independently. The servo system can improve the closed loop characteristics without affecting the command input response. The characteristics of the closed loop system is improved by suppressing disturbance torque effectively with the disturbance observer. Moreover, the cross-coupled controller enhances tracking performance. Thus total position control performance is improved. Finally, the performance of the proposed controller shows that it improves the contouring performance along with the reference trajectory in the XY-table.

  • As many sensors and actuators are used in various automated systems, the application of network to real-time distributed control system is gaining acceptance in many industries. In order to take advantages of networking, however, the network should be carefully designed to satisfy real-time distributed control. This paper presents an implementation method of closed-loop control using Profibus-FMS. In order to implement a closed-loop control system, we used industrial computers with Profibus-FMS network cards and a DC servo motor. Through various experiments, the step response of the control system with network was compared with the reference response without network.

  • In this paper, a new model for optical phase-locked loop(OPLL) is proposed that includes VCO laser frequency response as well as loop propagation delay. It is found that both of them greatly affect the OPLL performance. Our model can be used for realizing high-performance microwave-range OPLL.

  • Vibration localization characteristics of open loop repeated mistuned structures are investigated. The mistuning often creates significant response discrepancies among subcomponents of the repeated structures. As a result of the discrepancies, critical fatigue problems often occur in repeated structures. Therefore. it is of great importance to predict the vibration response of the mistuned repeated structures accurately in this Paper, a simplified model for an open-loop repeated structure is introduced and dimensionless parameters that influence the localization characteristics are identified. The effects of the parameters on the localization characteristics are investigated through numerical study.

  • A ground-loop heat exchanger in a ground source heat pump system is an important unit that determines the thermal performance of a system and its initial cost. The Size and performance of this heat exchanger is highly dependent on ground thermal properties. A proper design requires certain site-specific parameters, most importantly the ground effective thermal conductivity, the borehole thermal resistance and the undisturbed ground temperature. This study was performed to investigate the effect of some parameters such as borehole lengths, various grouting materials and U-tube configurations on ground effective thermal conductivity. In this study, thermal response tests were conducted using a testing device with 9-different ground-loop heat exchangers. From the experimental results, the length of ground-loop heat exchanger affects to the effective thermal conductivity. Among the various grouting materials, the bentonite-based grout with silica sand shows the largest thermal conductivity value.

  • This paper presents a digital control solution to process capacitor current feedback of high performance single-phase UPS for non-linear loads. In all UPS the goal is to maintain the desired output voltage waveform and RMS value over all unknown load conditions and transient response. The proposed UPS uses instantaneous load voltage and filter capacitor current feedback, which is based on the double regulation loop such as the outer voltage control loop and inner current control loop. The proposed DSP-based digital-controlled PWM inverter system has fast dynamic response and low total harmonic distortion (THD) for nonlinear load. The control system was implemented on a 32bit Floating-point DSP controller TMS320C32 and tested on a 5[KVA] IGBT based inverter switching at 11[Khz]. The validity of the proposed scheme is investigated through simulation and experimental results.

  • In this paper, a non-coherent code tracking loop is designed for 3GPP HSDPA MODEM and its performance is analyzed in terms of steady-state jitter variance and transient response characteristics. Analytical closed-form formula for steady-state jitter variance is first derived for AWGN environments as a function of pulse-shaping filter, timing offset, signal-to-interference ratio, and loop bandwidth. Also obtained is the transient response characteristic of a tracking loop. Finally, the performance of the designed tracking loop is confirmed by computer simulations.

  • High-performance Phase-Locked Loops (PLLs) are critical for grid synchronization in grid-tied power electronic applications. In this paper, a new single-phase All Digital Phase-Locked Loop (ADPLL) is proposed. It features fast transient response and good robustness under distorted grid conditions. It is designed for Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation. As a result, a high sampling frequency of 1MHz can be obtained. In addition, a new OSG is adopted to track the power frequency, improve the harmonic rejection and remove the dc offset. Unlike previous methods, it avoids extra feedback loop, which results in an enlarged system bandwidth, enhanced stability and improved dynamic performance. In this case, a new parameter optimization method with consideration of loop delay is employed to achieve a fast dynamic response and guarantee accuracy. The Phase Detector (PD) and Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) are realized by a Coordinate Rotation Digital Computer (CORDIC) algorithm and a Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) block, respectively. The whole PLL system is finally produced on a FPGA. A theoretical analysis and experiments under various distorted grid conditions, including voltage sag, phase jump, frequency step, harmonics distortion, dc offset and combined disturbances, are also presented to verify the fast dynamic response and good robustness of the ADPLL.

  • In this paper, we design a flight controller using a dynamic compensator for a small unmanned aerial vehicle. The proposed method ensures flight stability during altitude holding and waypoints passing by improving the transient response and steady state error. The control system consists of dual feedback loops with an inner loop and a outer loop. The inner loop has a PD controller to improves the transient response and the outer loop has a dynamic compensator to reduce overshoot in the transient response and improve the steady state error. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by flight test on a small UAV.
