  • This paper proposes an integrated recovery approach applying retry and rollback techniques to recover the TMR failure. Combining the time redundancy techniques with W system is apparently effective to recover the TMR failure(or masked error) primarily caused by transient faults. These policies need fewer reconfigurations at the cost of extra time required for the time redundant schemes. The optimal numbers of retry and rollback to minimize the mean execution time of tasks are derived for the proposed method through computing the likelihoods of all possible states of the failed system. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through examining certain numerical examples and simulations conducted with a variety of parameters governing environmental characteristics.

  • In this paper, we address a problem of finding the optimum inner and outer code rates for a concatenated code in Gaussian binary symmetric channels. Clearly, as the inner code rate decreases, the error detection capability of the inner code increases. However, decreasing the inner code rate implies a decrease in error-correction capability of the outer code when overall code rate is fixed. With this notion in mind, we examine the optimum distribution of redundancy on the outer and inner codes to achieve a maximum performance gain in the concatenated coding scheme. Our analysis shows that the maximum coding gain can be obtained when the inner code rate is maximized and the outer code rate is minimized under the constraint of total code rate is fixed.

  • CCTV video recording system is recognized as evidence value of video data, and is widely used in real life for the purpose of security of facilities or security control, and it is developing in order to process high-resolution and high-capacity data in real time through network. However, there is no description of redundancy to prevent the loss of image data due to defects of unexpected equipment or external attack, and even if the redundancy is implemented, a high-capacity video stream is transmitted through the network, network overload can not avoided. In this paper, we propose and verify a failover method based on rules that can operate the redundancy scheme without inducing network overload in CCTV network video recording environment.

  • For a method improving fractal image segmentation which is a new application of fractal image coding, YST scheme have proposed an image segmentation scheme using labeling based on periodic points of pixel transformation and error-correction of labels by iterating fractal transformation. The scheme generates the high quality segmentation, however, it has the redundancy in the process of labeling and correction of labels. To solve this problem, we propose a labeling algorithm based on orbit of pixel transformation and restricted condition on iterating process of fractal transformation.

  • For efficient transmission of 3DTV video signals, it is necessary to eliminate the inherent redundancy between the stereo image pairs. Though disparity estimation provides a powerful tool for eliminating the redundancy, it is very time consuming. This paper presents a novel disparity estimation scheme based on the human visual property. The disparity vectors of image blocks spatially adjacent to the current block are used as initial guesses fur the disparity vector of the current block. In addition, mixed-resolution coding is applied to reduce the computational complexity of disparity estimation. Through computer simulations on a stereoscopic sequence we show that the proposed method gives rise .to visually pleasing results with much reduced computational complexity.

  • This paper introduces a scaled hardware model for the 10kVA, 1kV, 11-level MMC (Modular Multilevel Converter), which was manufactured in the lab based on computer simulations with PSCAD/EMTDC. Various experiments were conducted to verify the major operation algorithms of MMC. The hardware scaled-model developed in the lab can be utilized for analyzing the operation analysis and performance evaluation of MMC according to the modulation pattern and redundancy operation scheme.

  • In the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system, the motion error is the main phase error sources and the motion compensation is very important. The phase gradient autofocus (PGA) is a state of art technique for phase error correction of SAR. It exploits the redundancy of the phase-error information among range bins by selecting the strongest scatter for each range bin and synthesizes them. The motivation of this paper is based on the observation that the redundancy of phase error is also among the cross-range direction. Moreover, the proposed method applies the weighting function to better utilize the phase error information. The validity of the proposed scheme for PGA is tested with some numerical simulation.

  • The kinematic resolutions of redundancy is addressed in this paper. The governing equation for quasistatic behavior of compliance governed redundant manipulators is formulated and the repeatable property of the manipulator is proposed. Then the compliance paradigm is used to resolve the redundancy in a repeatable way. The compliance paradigm is one under which the controller simulates the imaginary manipulator which is governed to move by real joint stiffness. The equation is expressed as the weighted pseudoinverse with the configuration dependent weighting matrix. Algorithmic singularities arisen from this scheme are also discussed.

  • We herein propose a heuristic redundancy selection algorithm that combines resubmission, replication, and checkpointing redundancies to reduce the resiliency overhead in fault-tolerant workflow scheduling. The appropriate combination of these redundancies for workflow tasks is obtained in two consecutive phases. First, to compute the replication vector (number of task replicas), we apportion the set of provisioned resources among concurrently executing tasks according to their needs. Subsequently, we obtain the optimal checkpointing interval for each task as a function of the number of replicas and characteristics of tasks and computational environment. We formulate the problem of obtaining the optimal checkpointing interval for replicated tasks in situations where checkpoint files can be exchanged among computational resources. The results of our simulation experiments, on both randomly generated workflow graphs and real-world applications, demonstrated that both the proposed replication vector computation algorithm and the proposed checkpointing scheme reduced the resiliency overhead.

  • In this paper, the embedded zero-tree wavelet image compression method using multi- threshold is proposed, which can reduce the scanning and symbol redundancy of the existing embedded zero-tree wavelet (EZW) method and enable more efficient coding. In the proposed scheme, a multi-threshold is constructed with the maximum absolute values from each subband decomposed by the wavelet transforms of the input image data. The multi-threshold values are compared with the threshold value T$_1$ in each pass in Successive Approximation Quantization (SAQ) to select the significant subbands, which are only used for the subsequent coding processes, therefore, can reduce the coding redundancy in the existing EZW. By the experimental results, it is verified that the proposed multi-threshold EZW method shows superior performances to the existing EZW method.
