Recently, the development of technology has been rapidly proceeding with information technology in various fields. Due to their abstract properties, proper evaluation of intangible assets is very difficult compared to evaluation of tangible assets. Intangible assets are knowledge, technology, and design etc. In general there are two approaches to evaluate the intangible assets such as qualitative and quantitative approach. The qualitative approach contains scoring approach, profile approach, checklist approach, and quantitative approach. Quantitative approach contains cost approach, market approach, income approach, and real-option approach. As an initial step for evaluation of safe work environments, this study compares and analyzes evaluation methods of intangible assets.
This paper presents a multi helical ultrasonic imaging approach for quantitative corrosion damage monitoring of cylindrical structures. The approach consists of two stages. First a multi helical ultrasonic imaging (MHUI) algorithm is used to provide qualitative images of the structure of interest. Then, an optimization problem is solved in order to obtain quantitative damage information, such as thickness map. Experimental tests are carried out on a steel pipe instrumented with six piezoelectric transducers to validate the proposed approach. Three thickness recesses are considered to simulate corrosion damage. The results show the efficiency of the proposed approach for quantifying corrosion location, area and remnant thickness.
This paper presents a conceptual approach to convert customer requirements expressed in ordinary language into a form of qualitative and quantitative functions for developing new products. This approach attempts to combine the concepts of the value engineering and the Kansei engineering. It emphasizes that customer require- ments should be interpreted and reflected on the design of new product. Specific are discussed for extracting subjective requirements and transforming them into qualitative and quantitative functions for product design. This approach is expected to provide the product designer with a systematic efficient tool for incorporating subjective requirements into a product design.

A probabilistic based systems approach is addressed in this study for the reliability prediction of solid rocket motors (SRM). To achieve this goal, quantitative Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) approach is employed to determine the reliability of components, which are integrated into the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) to obtain the system reliability. The quantitative FMECA is implemented by burden and capability approach when they are available. Otherwise, the semi-quantitative FMECA is taken using the failure rate handbook. Among the many failure modes in the SRM, four most important problems are chosen to illustrate the burden and capability approach, which are the rupture, fracture of the case, and leak due to the jointed bolt and O-ring seal failure. Four algorithms are employed to determine the failure probability of these problems, and compared with those by the Monte Carlo Simulation as well as the commercial code NESSUS for verification. Overall, the study offers a comprehensive treatment of the reliability practice for the SRM development, and may be useful across the wide range of propulsion systems in the aerospace community.

Risk elements of highway safety facilities are affected by complex environments. Thus, risk-based approach for traffic safety facilities is needed. For this, in this study, qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methodology and procedure for highway safety facilities is proposed, which can be used as risk-based approach incorporating VE process. Also, for the quantitative risk assessment, event tree using EPDO(Equivalent Property Damage Only) with respect to frequency and magnitude of risk events is introduced. As a result, risk index of alternative 1(140cm) and 2(127(cm) which can be used as performance factor in VE approach are estimated.
Applicability of control theories to the efficient operation of accounting system is studied in this paper. Since managerial accounting has been developed along the progrees of control theory, management control theories are essential to explain important attributes of diverse accounting system. Basic concept of control is studied in depth and control systems are classified on the base of their special characteristics. And then the applicability of those control methods to accounting systems are discussed based on behavioral as well as management science approach. In the management science approach, accounting control models of production management, inventory management and R&D are designed with its unique quantitative characteristics. It, however, is very difficult to implement quantified control standards on the behavioral management side. Since most of variables considered on behavioral approach are non-quantitative, only discussion of the theoratical definition has been a main issue on previous studies. In this paper, practicability of the behavioral approach to the accounting control system is studied analyzing state variables and behavior variables of the control system. Theoratical base of the discussion are provided from control theories developed in organization theory and Economics. Basic objective of accounting control practice is to control qualitative human behavior represented by quantified figures while quantitative methods are prevailing over general accounting practice. Therefore, this paper tried to develope and integrate accounting control systems applicable to the behavioral management area as well as management science control side.
Existing studies on radar rainfall uncertainties were performed to reduce the uncertainty for each stage by using bias correction during the quantitative radar rainfall estimation process. However, the studies do not provide quantitative comparison with the uncertainties for all stages. Consequently, this study proposes a suitable approach that can quantify the uncertainties at each stage of the quantitative radar rainfall estimation process. First, the new approach can present initial and final uncertainties, increasing or decreasing the uncertainty, and the uncertainty percentage at each stage. Furthermore, Maximum Entropy (ME) was applied to quantify the uncertainty in the entire process. Second, for the uncertainty quantification of radar rainfall estimation at each stage, this study used two quality control algorithms, two rainfall estimation relations, and two bias correction techniques as post-processing and progressed through all stages of the radar rainfall estimation. For the proposed approach, the final uncertainty (ME = 3.81) from the ME of the bias correction stage was the smallest while the uncertainty of the rainfall estimation stage was higher because of the use of an unsuitable relation. Additionally, the ME of the quality control was at 4.28 (112.34%), while that of the rainfall estimation was at 4.53 (118.90%), and that of the bias correction at 3.81 (100%). However, this study also determined that selecting the appropriate method for each stage would gradually reduce the uncertainty at each stage. Finally, the uncertainty due to natural variability was 93.70% of the final uncertainty. Thus, the results indicate that this new approach can contribute significantly to the field of uncertainty estimation and help with estimating more accurate radar rainfall.
A quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) study is performed for modeling and prediction of oral bioavailabilities of 216 diverse set of drugs. After calculation and screening of molecular descriptors, linear and nonlinear models were developed by using multiple linear regression (MLR), artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machine (SVM) and random forest (RF) techniques. Comparison between statistical parameters of these models indicates the suitability of SVM over other models. The root mean square errors of SVM model were 5.933 and 4.934 for training and test sets, respectively. Robustness and reliability of the developed SVM model was evaluated by performing of leave many out cross validation test, which produces the statistic of $Q^2_{SVM}=0.603$ and SPRESS = 7.902. Moreover, the chemical applicability domains of model were determined via leverage approach. The results of this study revealed the applicability of QSAR approach by using SVM in prediction of oral bioavailability of drugs.
This paper proposes a two-stage imaging approach for quantitative inspection of damages in metallic plates using the fundamental anti-symmetric mode of ($A_0$) Lamb wave. The proposed approach employs a number of transducers to transmit and receive $A_0$ Lamb wave pulses, and hence, to sequentially scan the plate structures before and after the presence of damage. The approach is applied to image the corrosion damages, which are simplified as a reduction of plate thickness in this study. In stage-one of the proposed approach a damage location image is reconstructed by analyzing the cross-correlation of the wavelet coefficient calculated from the excitation pulse and scattered wave signals for each transducer pairs to determine the damage location. In stage-two the Lamb wave diffraction tomography is then used to reconstruct a thickness reduction image for evaluating the size and depth of the damage. Finite element simulations are carried out to provide a comprehensive verification of the proposed imaging approach. A number of numerical case studies considering a circular transducer network with eight transducers are used to identify the damages with different locations, sizes and thicknesses. The results show that the proposed methodology is able to accurately identify the damage locations with inaccuracy of the order of few millimeters of a circular inspection area of $100mm^2$ and provide a reasonable estimation of the size and depth of the damages.

Requirements are very important to model software architecture. Requirements are divided into functional and quality requirements. Functional requirements are pinpointed subsystems and components. Quality requirements affect the structure of architecture. Thus requirements are essential to understand clearly in order to design software architecture. This paper focuses on a quantitative approach to requirements analysis for modeling architectures. In our proposal, functional requirements are quantified through calculating each priority of components. Quality requirements are quantified through calculating the correlation degree between components and quality attributes. The proposed method is implemented by DRAMA (Domain Requirements Analysis for Modeling Architectures), which fully supports our approach and are developed in Java environments. Our proposal is validated to apply some industrial examples.
