A Subjectivity Study on Nonverbal Communication Cues in Facebook (온라인에서의 비언어적 요소에 대한 주관성 연구: 페이스북을 중심으로)

  • Non-verbal communication cues seem to be increasingly used in social media, such as emoticon, like, follow, etc. A Q methodology study is conducted to explore this phenomenon. Via a series of focus group activities with Facebook heavy users, 34 Q statements concerning online non-verbal communication cues are derived. Different Facebook users conduct Q sorts of these statements based on frequent use basis. Analysis of Q sort result reveals three distinctive usage patterns of non-verbal communication cues in Facebook: 'safe distance keeping' type, 'observing hermit' type and 'fully dedicated aficionado' type. Discussions are made concerning different components of non-verbal communication cues utilized in these groups, respectively, which can provide a theoretical basis for social media design.

Types of Stress for the Improvement of Quality of Life for Nursing Students (간호대학생의 삶의 질 향상을 위한 스트레스 유형 연구)

  • Purpose: The study aimed to explore the stress experience of nursing college students. Methods: A Q-methodology to analyze the subjectivity of each item was used. 57 statements were derived from a literature review and interviews. 40 nursing college students were classified into a shape of normal distribution using a 13-point scale. Collected data were analyzed by the PC QUANL program. Results: Four types have been identified for the stress experience of nursing college students. Type I was "curriculum burden", Type II was "goal-oriented", Type III was "outsider frustration" and Type IV was "growth stagnation" Conclusion: These results can be useful for developing education programs based on the type of stress in nursing college students.

Types of Perception toward Ethical Issues in Perioperative Nurses: Q-Methodological Approach (수술실 간호사의 윤리적 이슈에 대한 인식 유형: Q방법론적 접근)

  • Purpose: This study was aimed at identifying the types of perceptions of ethical issues among perioperative nurses. Methods: Q-methodology focusing on individual subjectivity was used with data collected in November 2016. Thirty-four Q-statements were selected and scored by the 35 participants on a 9-point scale with normal distribution. Participants were perioperative nurses working in advanced general hospitals and general hospitals. The data were analyzed using the PC-QUANL program. Results: A total of 35 perioperative nurses were classified into 4 factors based on the following viewpoints: self-centered (type 1), onlooking and avoiding (type 2), patient-centered (type 3), and problem-centered (type 4). The 4 factors accounted for 57.84% of the total variance. Individual contributions of factors 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 41.80%, 7.18%, 5.20%, and 3.66%, respectively. Conclusion: The major contribution of this study is the clarification of perioperative nurses' subjective perceptions of ethical issues. These findings can be used in formulating effective strategies for nursing educators, professional nurses, and nursing administrators to improve ethical decision-making abilities and to perform ethical nursing care by the appropriate management of ethical issues in everyday nursing practice.

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the general type of consumer perception by defining and structuring consumers' self - awareness through the Q methodological approach to the types of youth perceived by HMR. This study focuses on the recognition of HMR as a major customer of HMR, and aims to provide information that can be considered in the HMR market by identifying consumption characteristics of youth consumers in the HMR market. To do this, the respondent classifies the statement card and analyzes the Q-sort. Q-sort, which is obtained by selecting and constructing the Q-population, Q factor analysis. (N = 10): price seeking type], the second type is [(N = 10)] which pursues the purchase by trust, (N = 2): seeking convenience], and the fourth type [(N = 3): seeking the appearance of the packaging)] Each type has its own characteristics. Each subjective opinion detected through this analysis is utilized as a basis for the follow-up study of HMR and will be provided as a marketing data of the HMR market in a future research direction.

Analysis of the Perceptions on Daycare Center Directors' Competence Based on the Q Methodology (Q 방법론을 활용한 어린이집 원장의 역량에 대한 인식 분석)

  • Objective: This research examines the understanding of the competencies required from the director of a childcare center. It also analyzes the characteristics of the capabilities of a director of a daycare center. The research questions are as follows: First, what are the competencies of a childcare center director? Second, what are the characteristics of the competencies of a childcare center director? Methods: In this study, the Q methodology was applied. First, the Q population was identified based on prior studies and through open questionnaires and in-depth interviews targeting 71 teachers and directors of childcare centers. Next, 40 Q samples were selected. Second, P samples were selected targeting the 30 directors, Q sort was conducted, and the data were analyzed using the QUANL program. Results: The main results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, four types of competencies were demanded from the director of a daycare center. Second, the competencies required from the director of a daycare center were accountability-centered, functional-management-centered, human-relationshipcentered, and rationality-centered capabilities. Conclusion/Implications: The policy-level of and educational ways to support the competencies of a director of a daycare center were discussed.

Early Childhood Teachers' Awareness of Gender and Interaction Style with Young Children (남아와 여아에 대한 유아교사의 인식 및 상호작용)

  • This Study aimed to ascertain early childhood teachers' awareness of gender differences in young children and interaction style with young children. 50 teachers answered Q sort questionnaires, 7 teachers were interviewed, 2 classrooms were observed. Results showed 3 types of teacher perception of boys and 4 types of teacher perception of girls. Early childhood teachers more interact with boys than girls. Especially negative interaction showed much more frequently with boys than girls. These finding are discussed in terms of equity and equality in both gender.

Analysis of the Types of Images Early Childhood Teachers have about Kindergarten Teachers : Employing Q-methodological Approach (유아교사의 보육교사에 대한 이미지 유형 분석 : Q-방법론적 접근)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the types of image that early childhood teachers have about nursery teachers in detail in an effort to provide some information on how to build an ideal image of a nursery teacher. Another goal was to determine the right directions for teacher education based on the subjective opinions of early childhood teachers, which has not been covered in earlier studies. The Q-methodology was utilized to determine the awareness of early childhood teachers about the types of the images of nursery teachers and each type's characteristics. A Q-population was constituted by 310 types of images based on the results of earlier studies about the images of nursery teachers, and 48 Q-samples were selected according to frequency. And then 20 nursery teachers and 20 kindergarten teachers were asked to classify the images of nursery teachers in nine stages by using the Q-sort, and the data were analyzed by the statistical package PASW 18.0. As a result, four different types of images appeared that the early childhood teachers had about nursery teachers, and the images were respectively named 'a practical-teaching-oriented type of teacher', 'a negative-system critical type of teacher', 'a positive-humanistic type of teacher' and 'a neutral-emotionally type of teacher'.

Perceptions Types of Workplace Bullying among Clinical Nurses (임상간호사의 태움에 대한 인식 유형)

  • This study is an exploratory study aimed at identifying the type and identifying type-specific characteristics by applying Q methodology to identify the perception of workplace bullying among clinical nurses. Methods: A total of 38 Q samples were selected and data were collected from 36 clinical nurses. Collected data were analyzed by the PC QUANL program. Six types have been identified about the clinical nurse's perception of workplace bullying. Type I-1 was "Endurance", I-2 was "Hazing", Type II-1 was "Rite of passage", Type II-2 was "Territorial individual", Type III-1 was "Hierarchical order", Type III-2 was "Interpersonal silent". These results can be useful in developing improvement programs such as interpersonal relationships and communication. In addition, practical strategies are required to improve the nursing work environment.

  • After kidney transplantation, immunosuppressive medication is essential to enhance the quality of life and survival of the transplanted patient. To promote the medication adherence, subjects are required to have converged attitude with open mind. Medication adherence will depend on the attitude of the psychosocial characteristics and treatment guidelines. The purpose of this study was to identify the specific types and characteristics of medication adherence in the view of kidney transplanted patients. Q-methodology, a technique for extracting subjective opinions, was used. Forty participants completed the Q-sort activity, rating each statement relative to the others. The collected data were analyzed by QUANL PC program. Four types of medication adherence of kidney transplanted patients were identified: 'positive lifestyle management type', 'vigilant appearance management type', 'somber oblivion type', 'vigilant family support type'. Through the identification of attitudes to medication adherence, repeated and individualized medication adherence program will help to prevent graft rejection.

However, the Korean factor of were identified only 'Packing Carriage Culture'.
