This study was carried out to give basic information of traumatic injuries of primary and permanent teeth which can be used for diagnosis and management of injured teeth. From January 2003 to July 2007, 570 children with 1394 teeth who came to pediatric dentistry and emergency center of Chonnam National University Hospital due to the traumatized teeth participated in this study. The following data were investigated. : age, sex, causes and places of trauma, position of injured teeth, types of injury, and treatment at the first visit. 1. Trauma prevailed at the age of 1, $6{\sim}8$, $17{\sim}18$ and the rate of males was more likely to be higher than the rate of females(1.9 : 1). 2. The main cause of injury is a fall-down injury for primary and mixed dentition, but is a traffic accident and fighting for permanent dentition, respectably. The place of injury for primary dentition is mainly home(45.3%), while street for mixed and permanent dentition. 3. The position of injured teeth according to the area in the mouth is mainly maxillary anterior teeth in both case of primary and permanent teeth and especially, the ratio of central incisors is high. 4. The periodontal tissue injury occurred the most frequently in the primary and the permanent teeth, but the ratio of hard tissue injury in the permanent teeth increased, compared with the primary teeth. 5. Among treatments at the first visit, observation without actual treatment comprised 75.6% in the primary teeth and 55.4% in the permanent teeth, respectably. The pulp necrosis occurred in 20.3% of the primary teeth and 26.6% of the permanent teeth in the case of the periodontal tissue injuries, respectably.

In order to know cephalometric norms for the preschool children, this roentgeno cephalometric study was undertaken in each 50 Korean male and female children of primary dentition age from 4 to 5 year. The following results were obtained. 1. In the skeletal analysis, there was no significant difference between male and female in angular measurement and the linear measument of the male was generally greater than that of the female. 2. Saddle angle was $122.3^{\circ}$, articular angle was $147.6^{\circ}$, gonial angle was $119.4^{\circ}$ and the sum of each angle was $396.1^{\circ}$ in male and $396.6^{\circ}$ in female. 3. The ratio of mandibular body to anterior cranial base was about 1 : 0.91. 4. In the primary dentition, suggested that the nasion and point A move forward relative to sella turcica in a fashion, pogonion and point B are equal in angular position relative to plan S-N, bony chin and chin button was yet underdeveloped, and the forward growth of mandible was seen rapid than maxilla after 4 years. 5. Suggested that the percentage of anterior facial height to the posterior facial height were 64.4% in male and 64.1% in female. 6. Maxillary primary incisors was more upright than the permanent incisors, mandibular primary incisors was inclined lingually relative to the permanent incisor, and primary incisors was more upright than the permanent incisors. 7. Maxillary primary incisors in female was inclined labially than male. 8. In the the relationship of the upper lip and lower lip to the esthetic line, the upper lip was 2.11mm and the lower lip was 2.33mm front of the esthetic line.

The purpose of this research was to analyze the relationship between parents' attitudes toward their children's dental health and dental plaque index. Dental plaque index was obtained through oral examination of 118 children(female 40, male 78) with primary dentition The maintenance status of children's dental health though parents' aids was evaluated by means of questionaire to which 79 persons among the 118 children's parents answered. The results were as follows : 1. In children with primary dentition, toothbrushing together with toothbrushing instruction and continuous reinforcement had decreased plaque accumulation progressively. 2. Dental plaque index before toothbrushing showed that dental plaque was accumulated more in the buccal surfaces of teeth in the maxilla and in the lingual surfaces of teeth in the mandible. It was higher in the posterior teeth than in the anterior teeth and in the maxillary teeth than in the mandibular teeth. 3. Dental plaque index of childern was inversely proportional to the level of education of their parents. 4. Those parents who have much knowledge of oral hygiene were more positive toward their children's oral hygiene.

Author have measured the depth of gingival sulcus of the primary teeth. 333 teeth were selected from the children who attended on the department of pedodontic, College of dentistry, Yonsei University, and kindergarten children at Won Ju city aged from 1 year 8 months to 10 year 2 months. 1998 point were measured. The results were as follows. ; 1. Facial surface was the shallowest in sulcus depth compared with other surfaces. It was 1.56 mm. The depth of sulcus in lingual surface was deeper than facial. 2. The deepest part of each surface was mesial and distal, There were no statistical differences between mesial and distal part of the sulcus depth. 3. The mean sulcus depth of each tooth was as follows. Primary central incisor.....1.71mm. Primary canine....1.75mm. Primary second molar.....2.03mm. 4. The mean sulcus depth of upper was 1.86mm, and the lower was 1.76mg. The upper tooth was deeper than lower in sulcus depth. 5. The lower primary central incisor had the shallowest sulcus and the upper 2nd primary molar had the deepest compared with other tooth. 6. There wasn't specific statistical differences between the age groups of primary dentition and mixed dentition.

The aim of this study was to assess the occlusal relationships of primary dentition of Korean preschool children in Hwaseong city. Total 444 children of age group between 2 and 5 years were selected. One pediatric dentist took intraoral photos of children. Evaluation and categorization of the primary molar relationships were done by single examiner. Statistical analysis was performed with Pearson chi-squared test. Total 389 samples, which is consisted of 185 boys, 204 girls were satisfied with inclusion criteria. Bilateral mesial step was seen in 61.7%. Bilateral flush terminal plane was seen in 15.4%. When the primary molar relations of the right and left sides were not the same, the combination of the mesial step and flush terminal plane was 14.7%. The present study provides insight into occlusal relationships in the primary dentition of 2 - 5 years old of Korean children in Hwaseong city. Pediatric dentists should understand occlusal relationships of primary dentition for establishment of appropriate treatment strategies and occlusal guidance.

The purpose of this study was to clarify the palatal forms through palatal curvatures of right to left, anterior to posterior direction, and difference of right and left palatal volumes in the primary and permanent dentition. Samples were consisted of normal occlusion of both dentition(50 males and 50 females each). Their upper plaster casts were used, measuring points were decided, through 3-dimensional laser scanning(3-D Laser Scanner, DS4060, LDI, U.S.A.), and fitting standard horizontal plane were made for measuring the height and sectioned volumes of palate. The results were as follows: 1. Palatal volume and height were greater at the right side of the palate in the primary and permanent dentition of male and female, but there was no significance. 2. Palatal height was greater in male compared to female, especially, there was significant difference at intercuspid, inter-second premolar area in the permanent dentition(P<0.05). 3. To the height of A-P direction of mid-palatal area, the highest point was 20mm in the primary dentition, 30mm in the permanent dentition from interdental papilla of central incisors. 4. Palatal height of inter-cuspid and inter-second premolar became shallow and broad, high and broad each, compared to inter-deciduous canine and inter-second deciduous molar.

The purpose of this study was to statistically evaluate the spacing of primary dentition according to whether or not a space existed and measurement of amount of space in 205 children (male 114, female 91) from 2 to 6 years of age. The results were as follows; 1. In the incidence of interdental space on each region, spacing between the primary lateral incisors and primary canine in maxilla and between the primary canine and 1st primary molar in mandible showed the highest percentage, on the other hand, spacing between the 1st and 2nd primary molars in both jaw showed the lowest percentage. 2. In the kinds of interdental space, the state of primate space and other space together showed the highest percentage, and in the degree of spacing, $S_2$ showed the highest percentage in both jaw. 3. In the incidence of primate space, maxillary primate space showed higher percentage than mandibular primate space in bilateral case. 4. In the type of arch form, spaced arch showed higher percentage than closed arch and about the half of closed arch showed crowding. 5. In both Jaw, available space showed incisor segments, canine segments, and premolar segments in order of amount, and there were not statistically significant differences of sex or jaws in the amount of available space.

The aim of this study is (1) to establish the baseline information concerning the width of keratinized gingiva, depth of gingival sulcus and width of attached gingiva on the buccal surface of the teeth: and (2) to determine the relationship between the above values and tooth eruption: and (3) to estimate the frequency of mucogingival problems. The results were as follows; 1. The mean width of attached gingiva of the children aged $6\sim12$ proved to be wider in the maxilla than in the mandible. Of the primary teeth, the widest width was found in the areas of maxillary primary lateral incisors and maxillary primary canines(3.50mm and 3.55mm). The narrowest was noted in the area of mandibular first primary molars(1.34mm) In the permanent dentition, the greatest width was found in the areas of maxillary permanent lateral incisors (3.00mm). The narrowest was noted in the area of mandibular first premolars(0.55mm). 2. In the primary dentition, the width of attached gingiva of primary canines and first and second primary molars became wider from the age of six as the age increased. In the permanent dentition of the boys, only mandibular central incisors and maxillary first molars showed the tendency towards increase in the width of attached gingiva with increasing age. In the permanent dentition of girls, central and lateral incisors of both jaws and maxillary first molars showed statistically significant increase in the width of attached gingiva with increasing age(p<0.05). 3. At the age of tooth change, the attached gingiva of primary teeth were almost wider than those of successive permanent teeth (p<0.05). 4. During the period of 6 to 12 years of age, the width of keratinized gingiva and the depth of gingival sulcus of permanent tooth at the age of twelve were larger than those of primary tooth at the age of six (p<0.05). 5. The maximum in the frequency of mucogingival problems was found in the areas of upper and lower first primary molars of primary dentition, and in the upper and lower first premolars of permanent dentition regardless of sex. The frequency was higher in primary teeth than in the corresponding successive permanent teeth These teeth showed tendency towards increase in mucogingival problems with age.

The aim of this study was to assess the spacing and crowding of the anterior teeth in the primary dentition in Hwaseong city. Photographs of the anterior segment of 237 children satisfied the criteria. The presence of primate spaces and developmental spaces was assessed by the proximal contacts. Physiologic spacing was observed in 47.3% and 38.0% of the cases in the upper and lower arches, respectively. 43.5% showed the presence of two-segment contact or crowded dentition. Physiologic spacing was observed more in boys than in girls. In the maxilla, primate space was more frequent than developmental space; however, in the mandible, the difference was low. In the maxilla, the space between the central incisor and the lateral incisor was more frequent than the space between both central incisors. In contrast, in the mandible, the space between both central incisors was more common than the space between the central and lateral incisors or between the lateral incisors and canine. The present study describes the tendency for anterior spacing and crowding in the primary dentition. Further longitudinal studies with a larger sample are needed. Dentists should consider these concepts of spacing or contact/crowding when performing full coronal restorations of primary anterior teeth.

In the field of pediatric dentistry, comparison and analysis of cephalogram values of children are important fir evaluation of growth and development, and are essential to evaluate the craniofacial form and growth pattern for early diagnosis of malocclusion. For this, cephalographic norm values are important, but not many studies on the primary dentition exist. To compare the past norm values of normal occlusion in the primary dentition with current norms, preschool children, 4 to 5 years of age, with normal occlusion in the primary dentition who visited our hospital were examined. Among these children, 46 children with normal facial form and developmental status were chosen for evaluation of cephalogram values. The following results were as follows: 1. For skeletal values, the angular values showed no significant differences between males and females, and the linear values were generally greater in males than females. 2. SNA was $81.3^{\circ}$, SNB was $76.6^{\circ}$ and ANB difference was $4.7^{\circ}$. 3. The ratio for Mandibular body length to Anterior cranial base length was 0.9 : 1 for both male and female and the ratio for posterior facial height to anterior facial height was 61.4 % for male, 62.0 % for female. 4. For dental values, IMPA was $84.2^{\circ}$ and UA to SN was $90.8^{\circ}$. 5. The upper lip to Ricketts esthetic line was positioned 2.6 mm anteriorly, and the lower lip to Ricketts esthetic line was positioned 2.5 mm anteriorly.
