This paper dealt with the frequency component analysis of acoustic signals produced by corona and series-arc discharges as a diagnostic technique for closed-switchboards. Corona and series-arc discharge were simulated by a needle-plane electrode and an arc generator specified in UL1699, respectively. Acoustic signal was detected by a wideband acoustic sensor with a frequency bandwidth of 4 Hz~100 kHz (-3 dB). We analyzed frequency spectrums of the acoustic signals detected in various discharge conditions. The results showed that acoustic signals mainly exist in ranges from 30 kHz to 60 kHz. From the experimental results, an acoustic detection system which consists of a constant current power supply (CCP), a low noise amplifier (LNA) and a band pass filter was designed and fabricated. The CCP separates the signal component from the DC source of acoustic sensor, and the LNA has a gain of 40 dB in ranges of 280 Hz~320 kHz. The high and the low cut-off frequency are 30 kHz and 60 kHz, respectively. We could detect corona and series-arc discharges without any interference by the acoustic detection system, and the best frequency is considered in ranges of 30 kHz~60 kHz.
To improve $B_1$ homogeneity in high field MRI, the RF power is applied to the transmit array coil elements sequentially in the time-multiplexed way. Since only a single coil element is activated in a time-multiplexing slot, the global standing wave formation in the human body is greatly suppressed. The time-multiplexing slot width is on the order of micro seconds, hence, high-order-harmonic slices can be placed far from the transmit coil and simultaneous multiple slice selection can be avoided. The $B_1$ homogeneities of a birdcage coil and an eight-channel transmit array coil have been compared through finite difference time domain simulations. The simulation results indicate that the proposed technique can reduce the peak-to-peak $B_1$ inhomogeneity down to one fourth of the transmission with a birdcage coil on the central plane of the human head model at 3 T. The mimicking experiments at 3 T, eight separate experiments with a single coil element activated and image reconstruction by combining the eight images, also show promising results. It is expected that the proposed technique has some advantages over other $B_1$ improving methods in real practice since simple RF switching circuitries are only necessary and electromagnetic coupling between the coil elements is out of concern in its realization.

In this paper, a method of feeding for the near field beam scanning array antenna with three dimensional focal point has been studied. The conventional array antenna theory is mostly about the far field points. The basic idea is to feed the transmitted signal so that it is in phase at the desired point. In this study, a method is proposed to compensate the phase to have the maximum received power at the point where the measurement point distance is near to the array antenna size. In the proposed method, 11 point source antennas are arrayed in three ways in free space. And the contour map is plotted by calculating the radiation patterns in the three dimensional space and the received signal intensities in the plane within the near space. As a result, it was confirmed that 3 dimensional beam scanning is possible also in the near field of the array antenna.
In the present paper, functionally graded (FG) materials are presented to investigate the bending analysis of simply supported plates. It is assumed that the material properties of the plate vary through their length according to the power-law form. The displacement field of the present model is selected based on quasi-3D hyperbolic shear deformation theory. By splitting the deflection into bending, shear and stretching parts, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the present formulation is reduced and hence makes them simple to use. Governing equations are derived from the principle of virtual displacements. Numerical results for deflections and stresses of powerly graded plates under simply supported boundary conditions are presented. The accuracy of the present formulation is demonstrated by comparing the computed results with those available in the literature. As conclusion, this theory is as accurate as other shear deformation theories and so it becomes more attractive due to smaller number of unknowns. Some numerical results are provided to examine the effects of the material gradation, shear deformation on the static behavior of FG plates with variation of material stiffness through their length.
Dynamic response analysis of offshore triceratops with stiffened buoyant legs under impact and non-impact waves is presented. Triceratops is relatively new-generation complaint platform being explored in the recent past for its suitability in ultra-deep waters. Buoyant legs support the deck through ball joints, which partially isolate the deck by not transferring rotation from legs to the deck. Buoyant legs are interconnected using equally spaced stiffeners, inducing more integral action in dispersing the encountered wave loads. Two typical nonlinear waves under very high sea state are used to simulate impact and non-impact waves. Parameters of JONSWAP spectrum are chosen to produce waves with high vertical and horizontal asymmetries. Impact waves are simulated by steep, front asymmetric waves while non-impact waves are simulated using Stokes nonlinear irregular waves. Based on the numerical analyses presented, it is seen that the platform experiences both steady state (springing) and transient response (ringing) of high amplitudes. Response of the deck shows significant reduction in rotational degrees-of-freedom due to isolation offered by ball joints. Weak-asymmetric waves, resulting in non-impact waves cause steady state response. Beat phenomenon is noticed in almost all degrees-of-freedom but values in sway, roll and yaw are considerably low as angle of incidence is zero degrees. Impact waves cause response in higher frequencies; bursting nature of pitch response is a clear manifestation of the effect of impact waves on buoyant legs. Non-impact waves cause response similar to that of a beating phenomenon in all active degrees-of-freedom, which otherwise would not be present under normal loading. Power spectral density plots show energy content of response for a wide bandwidth of frequencies, indicating an alarming behaviour apart from being highly nonlinear. Heave, being one of the stiff degrees-of-freedom is triggered under non-impact waves, which resulted in tether tension variation under non-impact waves as well. Reduced deck response aids functional requirements of triceratops even under impact and non-impact waves. Stiffened group of buoyant legs enable a monolithic behaviour, enhancing stiffness in vertical plane.
In this paper, the TM (Transverse Magnetic) scattering problems by a perfectly conducting strip grating over a grounded two dielectric layers with edge boundary condition are analyzed by applying the FGMM (Fourier Galerkin Moment Method). For the TM scattering problem, the induced surface current density is expected to the very high value at both edges of the strip, then the induced surface current density on the conductive strip is expanded in a series of the multiplication of the Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind and the functions of appropriate edge boundary condition. Generally, when the value of the relative permittivity of dielectric layers over the ground plane increased, the strip width according to the sharp variation points of the reflected power is shifted to a higher value. The numerical results shown the fast convergent solution and good agreement compared to those of the existing papers.

In this paper, a novel resonator using ring type DGS is proposed for improvement of phase noise characteristics that is weak point of oscillator using planar type microstrip line resonator, and oscillator for 5.8 GHz band is designed using proposed DGS resonator. The ring type DGS resonator is composed of DGS cell etched on ground plane under $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line. At the fundamental frequency of 5.8 GHz, 7.6 dBm output power and -82.7 dBc@100kHz phase noise have been measured for oscillator with ring type DGS resonator. We designed the voltage controlled oscillator using proposed the DGS resonator with varactor diodes placed between gaps of DGS. Thus, due to its simple fabrication process and planar type, it is expected that the technique in this paper can be widely used for low phase noise oscillators for both MIC and MMIC applications.
At the contract for power plant construction, the penalty appropriation on performance decrease is signed between ordering organization and construction firm. In this, the penalty cost signed must be reasonable value that both of ordering organization and construction firm can accept, therefore the methodology for penalty appropriation is very important. Cogeneration is a system that produces electricity and heat at the same time, therefore the penalty appropriation for cogeneration should be uncertain. Thermoeconomics analyzes various energy costs, however the relation of thermoeconomics and penalty cost may not be analyzed up to now. The aim of this study demonstrates that thermoeconomics can be applied to the penalty appropriation at the performance acceptance test. As the result of CGAM system, if the construction cost is $10,000,000, the value of $6,665,688 was appropriated to the electricity production performance and the value of $3,334,312 was appropriated to the heat production performance. Therefore if one percentage at the electricity production performance decreases, the penalty is $6,666, and one percentage at the heat production performance decrease, we can understand that the penalty is $3,334.

The membrane separation processes have received attention due to advantages such as compactness, modularity, ease of installation, flexibility of operation, lower capital cost and lower energy consumption. In this study, we evaluated accuracy of cross-flow, co-current and counter-current models. With the most accurate model, we identified the operating conditions of the two-stage membrane separation and examined the effects of permeance and selectivity of the membrane by simulation. Futhermore, power requirements and operating cost savings due to the introduction of the heat exchanger were investigated by applying heat exchanger network synthesis technique in the two-stage membrane separation using vapor sweep.
The worldwide issue of greenhouse gas reduction has recently drawn great attention to carbon capture and storage(CCS). In this study, we developed a 10,000 ton/year pilot injection plant for geological storage of carbon dioxide. Major components of the pilot plant include a pressure pump, a booster pump, and an inline heater to bring liquid carbon dioxide into its supercritical state. The test results show that the pilot plant readily achieves the injection pressure and temperature, showing satisfactory control performance. The overall power consumption is 2,000 ~ 2,500 W, more than 75% of which consumed by the pressure pump. This study will facilitate varied research on greenhouse gas reduction as the only domestically developed system for geological injection.
