The Influencing Factors on Working Men's Depression: Focusing on Relationship Stress at Work and Family Relationship Stress (직장 남성의 우울감에 영향을 미치는 요인: 직장 내 대인관계 스트레스와 가족관계 스트레스를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of relationship stress at work and family relationship stress on working men's depression in order to improve their mental health. Data were collected via questionnaire from 313 white-collar workers living in Seoul, Daejeon and Gwangju. There were significant differences in depression depending on age, spouse, age of child, family size and years of labor. There were positive correlations among depression, relationship stress at work and family relationship stress. The family relationship stress was the most influential factor on depression, followed by relationship stress at work. Family relationship stress had a mediating effect on depression and relationship stress at work. These results showed that employers should manage depression of workers in a family friendly way to reduce the stress in relationship at work and home such as work and family balance policy.

Nurse's Knowledge to Breast-Feeding and Nursing Activities related to Breast-Feeding (간호사의 모유수유에 대한 지식정도와 모유수유간호활동 수행정도)

  • This study was to investigate the relationship between hospital nurses 'knowledge of breast-feeding and their ability to provide care to breast-feeding mothers and their children. From Nov. 1 to 30, 1999, 105 nurses of the obstetric ward, delivery room, OPDs of obstetrics and gynecology, and nurseries of three general hospitals from Seoul and Pusan were evaluated. The results are as follows: 1.Mean score of nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding was 12.76. Mean score of performance of nursing activities was 109.80. 2.General characteristics and feeding characteristics were significantly related to nurse's knowledge to breast-feeding and performance of nursing activities related to breast-feeding. Nurse's knowledge about breast-feeding was significantly related to age, working ward, clinical experience, rank of position, experience of breast-feeding and experience education on breast-feeding. Performance of nursing activities for breast- feeding was significantly related to age, working ward, experience in other ward, marital status, and education on breast-feeding. 3.A positive correlation between nurse's know-ledge to breast-feeding and performance of nursing activities related to breast-feeding was statistically significant(r=.381, P<0.05).

Importance of and Influencing Factors on Nurses' Caring Behaviors for Elders with Dementia (간호사가 인지한 치매노인 돌봄행위의 중요도 및 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the importance of nurses' caring behaviors and to identify influencing factors on nurses' caring behaviors for elders with dementia. Methods: Data were collected through questionnaires from 156 nurses in several demented elderly setting and analyzed by applying descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 16.0. Results: The average score for importance of nurses' caring behaviors was 3.55 and the 'attentive to other's experience' factor was the highest level. The mean score of nursing professional value was 8.46 and job satisfaction, 3.86. Importance of nurses' caring behaviors had a significant positive correlation with nursing professional value, job satisfaction and nurse's age. Four significant variables influencing importance of nurses' caring behaviors were job satisfaction, nursing professional value, working area of nurses and cognition dysfunction of elderly. Conclusion: With the results of this study, importance of nurses' caring behaviors can be improved by intervening the factors affecting this importance. Based on the findings of this study, further nursing practice and research for nurses' caring the elders with dementia should be focused on job satisfaction, nursing professional value, working area of nurses and cognitive dysfunction of elderly.

A Study on the Relationship of Cultural Competence, Self Efficacy and Job Stress in Nurses Caring for Hospitalized Foreign Patients (외국인 환자 입원병동 간호사의 문화적 역량, 자기효능감, 직무 스트레스 간의 상관관계)

  • Purpose: The present study was done to identify the relationship of cultural competence, self efficacy and job stress of nurses working on wards for foreign patients. Methods: The participants were 133 clinical nurses who agreed to participate in the study and were working on wards for foreign patients in three general hospitals in Seoul. A structured questionnaire that covered the three tested constructs was conducted between Dec. 15, 2014 and Jan. 15, 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficients with SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: Cultural competence was found to have a significant positive correlation with self efficacy (r=.464, p<.001) and self efficacy had a significant negative correlation with job stress (r=-.397, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of the study suggest that programs designed to nourish cultural sensitivity and cultural skills need to be developed in order to promote cultural competence. The results also suggest that in these programs to improve self efficacy and reduce job stress should be considered.

A study on the work life of dental hygienists : for dental hygienists and dental hygiene students (치과위생사의 직업 수명에 관한 연구 : 치과위생사와 치위생(학)과 학생 대상으로)

  • Objectives: Although dental hygienists have a high employment rate as professional workers, turnover and retirement rates are very high. This study analyzed the factors related to work life of dental hygienists to prepare an alternative for life extension. Methods: From August 1 to December 31, 2019, 224 dental hygienists and 446 dental hygiene students were examined. Results: The expected working years for dental hygienists were 10-14 years (25.4%) and over 31 years (22.4%) for dental hygiene students. The recognized working years for dental hygienists were 10-14 years (22.4%) and 20-24 years (26.0%) for dental hygiene students. Work values of dental hygienists and dental hygiene students averaged 3.85 and 3.86, respectively. Furthermore, the average motive for selecting a major in dental hygienists was 3.08 points and in dental hygiene students, 3.24 points. The average career identity of dental hygienists and dental hygiene students were 2.82 and 2.91 points, respectively. Conclusions: The perception difference between dental hygienists and dental hygiene students was compared, and the factors that could play a positive role in prolonging life were identified. Based on this study, further systematic comparative studies and preparation of alternatives for life extension are required.

Job satisfaction and organizational commitment among emergency medical technicians (응급구조사의 직무만족도와 조직몰입도에 관한 연구 - 광주·전남 응급구조사를 중심으로 -)

  • A descriptive-correlational study was conducted to examine the job satisfaction and organizational commitment of emergency medical technicians(EMTs) and to identify the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Subjects of this study werw 85 EMTs who passed first grade qualification examination and work at hospitals or fire stations in Gwangju and Chonnam province. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire by a postal survey from Sept. 10 to Oct. 20, 2003. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, ANOVA. t-test, and Pearson Correlation were used. The mean score of subjects' job satisfaction was 3.04 and the mean score of organizational commitment was 3.33. There was no significant differences on job satisfaction and organizational commitment by general characteristics of subjects. Job satisfaction was significantly differed by their careers as a EMT, current working place, and types of duty. Organizational commitment was significantly differed by their current working place, types of duty, and level of mean allowance. There was statistically significant positive correlation between job satisfaction and organizational commitment. These findings provide implications to improve job satisfaction and organizational commitment for EMTs. Further studies are recommended.

Relationship between Job Stress and Compassion Satisfaction, Compassion Fatigue, Burnout for Nurses in Children's Hospital (어린이병원 간호사의 업무 스트레스와 공감만족, 공감피로, 소진 간의 관계)

  • Purpose: Nurses experience burnout related to various factors. For this descriptive research job stress, compassion satisfaction, and compassion fatigue were examined as to their relationship to burnout in nurses from children's hospital. Methods: The participants were 305 nurses working in children's hospital. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure job stress, compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout. Results: Nurses in children's hospital experienced a greater than moderate degree of job stress, compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and burnout, whereas differences existed according to general characteristics. Job stress, compassion fatigue and burnout showed a significant positive correlation and results of compassion fatigue and burnout were similar. Also, job stress, compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue were associated with burnout in nurses working in children's hospital. Conclusion: Findings indicate that as longer work experience is accompanied by higher job stress and burnout, it is necessary to develop intervention programs to reduce burnout among career nurses exposed to greater job stress in children's hospital.

Impact of Ego-resilience, Self-leadership and Stress Coping on Job Satisfaction in Emergency Department (ED) Nurses (응급실 간호사의 자아탄력성, 셀프리더십, 스트레스 대처방식이 직무만족에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify ego-resilience, self-leadership, stress coping which might influence job satisfaction in ED nurses. Methods: Data were collected by self-reporting questionnaires from 123 nurses in 10 EDs. Data analysis was done with SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: Job satisfaction showed statistically significant differences depending on age, academic background, religion, clinical career, clinical career in emergency department, position, sleeping hour and reason for working. Job satisfaction showed significantly positive correlations with ego-resilience (r=.70, p<.001), self-leadership (r=.46, p<.001) and stress coping (r=.57, p<.001). Ego-resilience (${\beta}$=.54), sleeping hours over 8 hours (${\beta}$=.17) and reason for working (${\beta}$=.17) were significant predictors and accounted for 56.6%. Conclusion: Based on these results, it is needed to develop a program in order to improve ego-resilience of ED nurses.

The Relationships between Empowerment and Child Care Teachers' Intention of Teaching, the Reason for Teaching Intent (보육교사의 임파워먼트와 교직지향성 및 교직지향 이유의 관계)

  • This study was designed to examine the relationships between empowerment and child care teachers' intention of teaching, the reason for teaching intent. The subjects were 181 child care teachers from Chungcheongnamdo and the city of Daejeon, Korea. This study was conducted using questionnaires. The results were as follows: first, there were significant relationships between empowerment and child care teachers' intention of teaching and, the reason for teaching intent. There were positive relationships between decision making, professional growth, status, self-efficacy, autonomy, impact empowerment and child care teacher' intention of teaching and, the reason for teaching intent. Second, child care teachers' intention of teaching and the reason for teaching intent were affected by empowerment. Status and professional growth empowerment were the most predictive variables for the child care teachers' intention of teaching. The impact and self-efficacy empowerment were the most predictive variables for enjoy working with children, impact and professional growth empowerment were the most predictive variables for finding meaning in teaching, impact and status empowerment were the most predictive variables for opportunities to face ongoing challenges, and achievement motive. Status empowerment were the most predictive variable for reasonable pay and working environment, stability and skill. Therefore, status and impact empowerment were the most predictive variable for the reason for teaching intent.

A Study on the Relationship between Teacher Empowerment and Organizational Effectiveness in Early Childhood Educational Institutes : Focused on the Moderating Effects of Personal and Organizational Characteristics (유아교사의 임파워먼트와 조직효과성과의 관계 - 개인 및 조직특성 중재효과를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was intended to investigate the influence of teacher empowerment on organizational? effectiveness, and the moderating effects of personal and organizational characteristics on the relationship of teacher empowerment and organizational effectiveness in early childhood educational institutes. The subjects in this study were 808 teachers who worked at kindergartens and childcare centers located in all parts of Korea. This study was surveyed with the questionnaires. The results are as follows. Firstly, teacher empowerment had a positive and meaningful influence on all components of organizational effectiveness, such as organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and job performance. Secondly, as for the moderating effects of personal and organizational characteristics on the relationship of teacher empowerment and organizational effectiveness, teachers' educational background had moderating effects on job performance of organizational effectiveness, and married or unmarried status of teachers, teachers' experiences in other institutes, type of institute, and the number of teachers working in an institute had moderating effects on organizational commitment. Also, the number of teachers working in an institute had moderating effects on job satisfaction. However, teachers' period of service in their present institutes didn't have moderating effects between teacher empowerment and organizational effectiveness.
