  • In this paper, we propose a ne weighted backward covariance matrix method to enhance the resolution for direction-of-arrival(DOA) estimation. The proposed method (MEVM:modified eigenvector method) is an enhanced covariance matrix method which is an extended form of the conventional covariance matrix. We analyze the effect of using the weighted forward-baskward covariance matrix on the performance of the eigenvector method(EVM). By comparing the perturbation angle of the noise-subspace, we show that the spectral estimate obtained using the proposed method is less distorted than the spectral estimate obtained using the conventional EVM. The simulation results show that the new method is more accurate and has better resolution than the conventional EVM under the same noise conditions.

  • Recently, the magnetic bearings which have many advantages such as no noise, less mechanical friction are widely applied to the suspension of rotors on the rotary machineries. However, the magnetic bearing system is inherently unstable, nonlinear and MIMO(multi-input-multi-output) system as well. In this paper, we design a state feedback controller using linear matrix inequality(LMI) to the multi-objective synthesis, for the magnetic bearing system with integral type servo system. The design objectives include $H_{\infty}$ performance, asymptotic disturbance rejection, and time-domain constraints on the closed-loop pole location. The results of computer simulation show the validity of the designed controller.

  • Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), commonly referred to as Boron Nitride Nanoribbons (BNNRs), is an electrical insulator characterized by high thermal stability and a wide bandgap semiconductor property. This study delves into the electronic properties of two BNNR configurations: Armchair BNNRs (ABNNRs) and Zigzag BNNRs (ZBNNRs). Utilizing the nearest-neighbour tight-binding approach and numerical methods, the electronic properties of BNNRs were simulated. A simplifying assumption, the Hamiltonian matrix is used to compute the electronic properties by considering the self-interaction energy of a unit cell and the interaction energy between the unit cells. The edge perturbation is applied to the selected atoms of ABNNRs and ZBNNRs to simulate the electronic properties changes. This simulation work is done by generating a custom script using numerical computational methods in MATLAB software. When benchmarked against a reference study, our results aligned closely in terms of band structure and bandgap energy for ABNNRs. However, variations were observed in the peak values of the continuous curves for the local density of states. This discrepancy can be attributed to the use of numerical methods in our study, in contrast to the semi-analytical approach adopted in the reference work.

  • This paper presents an approach to order reduction of linear parameter varying controller for polytopic model. Feasible solutions which satisfy relevant linear matrix inequalities for constructing full-order parameter varying controller evaluated at each polytopic vertices are first found. Next, sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of a right coprime factorization of parameter varying controller. Furthermore, a singular perturbation approximation for time invariant systems is generalized to reduce full-order parameter varying controller via parameter varying right coprime factorization. This generalization is based on solutions of the parameter varying Lyapunov inequalities. The closed loop performance caused by using the reduced order controller is developed. To examine the performance of the reduced-order parameter varying controller, the proposed method is applied to reduce vibration of flexible structures having the transverse-torsional coupled vibration modes.

  • In this paper, the authors investigate the condition number with their condition numbers for weighted Moore-Penrose inverse and weighted least squares solution of min /Ax - b/M, where A is a rank-deficient complex matrix in $C^{m{\times}n} $ and b a vector of length m in $C^m$, x a vector of length n in $C^n$. For the normwise condition number, the sensitivity of the relative condition number itself is studied, the componentwise perturbation is also investigated.

  • Mismatch between switching frequency and circuit parameters often occurs in industrial applications, which would lead to instability phenomena. The bifurcation behavior of $V^2$ controlled buck converter is investigated as the pulse width modulation period is varied. Nonlinear behavior is analyzed based on the monodromy matrix of the system. We observed that the stable period-1 orbit was first transformed to the period-2 bifurcation, which subsequently changed to chaos. The mechanism of the series of period-2 bifurcations shows that the characteristic eigenvalue of the monodromy matrix passes through the unit circle along the negative real axis. Resonant parametric perturbation technique has been applied to prevent the onset of instability. Meanwhile, the extended stability region of the converter is obtained. Simulation and experimental prototypes are built, and the corresponding results verify the theoretical analysis.

  • The stability robustness problem of continuous linear systems with nominal and delayed time-varying perturbations is considered. In the previous results, the entire bound was derived only for the overall perturbations without separation of the perturbations. In this paper, the sufficient condition for stability of the system with two perturbations, which are nominal and delayed, is expressed as linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). The corresponding stability bounds fer those two perturbations are determined by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality)-based generalized eigenvalue problem. Numerical examples are given to compare with the previous results and show the effectiveness of the proposed.

  • In this paper, we use Lyapunov equations and functions to consider the linear systems with perturbed system matrices. And we consider that what choice of Lyapunov function V would allow the largest perturbation and still guarantee that V is negative definite. We find that this is determined by testing for the existence of solutions to a related quadratic equation with matrix coefficients and unknowns the matrix Riccati equation.

  • This paper presents a method for detecting damage in irregular 2D and 3D continuum structures based on combination of wavelet transform (WT) with fuzzy inference system (FIS) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). Many damage detection methods study regular structures. This method studies irregular structures and doesn't need response of healthy structures. First the damaged structure is analyzed with finite element methods, and damage response is obtained at the finite element points that have irregular distance, secondly the FIS, which is optimized by PSO is used to obtain responses at points, having equal distance by response at those points that previously obtained by the finite element methods. Then a 2D (for 2D continuum structures) or a 3D (for 3D continuum structures) matrix is performed by equal distance point response. Thirdly, by applying 2D or 3D wavelet transform on 2D or 3D matrix that previously obtained by FIS detail matrix coefficient of WT is obtained. It is shown that detail matrix coefficient can determine the damage zone of the structure by perturbation in the damaged area. In order to illustrate the capability of proposed method some examples are considered.

  • In multi-user multi-input multi-output (MU-MIMO) system, zero forcing beamforming (ZFB) is regarded as a realistic solution for transmitting scheme due to its low complexity and simple structure. However, ZFB shows a significant performance degradation when channel matrix has large condition number. In this case, the largest singular value of the channel inversion matrix has a dominant effect on transmit power. In this paper, we propose a perturbation method for reducing an effect of the dominant singular value. In the proposed algorithm, channel inverse matrix is first decomposed by SVD for the transmit signal to be expressed as a combination of singular vectors. Then, the transmit signal is perturbed to reduce the coefficient of the singular vector corresponding to the largest singular value. When a number of transmit antennas is 4, the simulation results of this paper shows that the proposed method shows 8dB performance enhancement at 10-3 uncoded bit error rate (BER) compared with conventional ZFB. Also, the simulation results show that the proposed method provides a comparable performance to Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding (THP) with much lower complexity.
