In order to calculate waves propagating into the shallow water region, a generalized parabolic approximate model is presented. The model is derived from the modified mild slope equation and includes all the existing parabolic models presented in the paper. Numerical results are presented in comparison to laboratory data of Berkhoff et al.(1982). The existing parabolic model shows almost same accuracy against the modified parabolic model and both results of models stand in closer agreement to the laboratory data. Therefore the existing parabolic model based on mild slope equation is a useful tool to compute shallow water waves which turns out to be more fast and stable in computational aspect.
The parabolic equation technique provides an excellent model to describe the wave phenomena when there exists a predominant direction of propagation. The model handles the square root wave number operator in paraxial direction. Realization of the pseudo-differential square root operator is the essential part of the parabolic equation method for its numerical accuracy. The wide-angled approximation of the operator is made based on the Pade series expansion, where the branch line rotation scheme can be combined with the original Pade approximation to stabilize its computational performance for complex modes. The Galerkin integration has been employed to discretize the depth-dependent operator. The benchmark tests involving the half-infinite space, the range independent and dependent environment will validate the implemented numerical model.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the flexible structure of parabolic shell using photostrictive actuators. The analysis is made to know its dynamic behavior and light-induced control forces for coupled parabolic shell. The effects of an actuator location as well as membrane and bending components under the control action have been analyzed considering the approximate spherical model. The parabolic membrane shell accuracy is being mathematically approximated and validated comparing the light induced control forces using approximate equivalent spherical shell model. The parabolic shell with kapton smart material and photostrictive actuators has been used to formulate the governing equation in the transverse direction. The Kirchhoff-Love assumptions are used to obtain the governing equation of shell with actuator. The mechanical membrane forces and bending moments for parabolic thin shell with actuator is used to analyze the dynamic effect. The results show that membrane control action is much more significant than bending control action. Photostrictive actuators oriented along circumferential direction (actuator-2) can give better control effect than actuators placed along longitudinal direction (actuator-1). The slight difference is observed between spherical and parabolic shell for a surface with focal length to the diameter ratio of 1.00 or more than unity. Space applications often have the shape of parabolical shells or shell of revolution, due to their required focusing, aiming, or reflecting performance. The present approach is focused that photostrictive actuators can effectively control the vibration of parabolical membrane shell. Also, the actuator's location plays an important role in defining the control force.

Parabolic approximation wave models based on $Pad{\acute{e}}$ approximants are analyzed in order to calculate wave transformation. In this study a $Pad{\acute{e}}(2,2)$ parabolic approximation model is developed to increase the accuracy of computation in comparison with the existing models. Numerical studies on a constant sloping bed show that the new model proves to allow for much more successful treatment of large angles of incidence than is possible using the previously available models.
In this study, the first law of thermodynamics was used to establish a one-dimensional (1-D) thermal model for parabolic trough receiver (PTR) taking into account the pressure drop and kinetic energy loss effects of the heat transfer fluid (HTF) flowing inside the absorber tube. The validation of the thermal model with data from the SEGS-LS2 solar collector-test showed a good agreement, which is consistent with the previously established models for the conventional straight and smooth (CSS) receiver where the effects of pressure drop and kinetic energy loss were neglected. Based on the developed model and code, a comparative study of the newly designed parabolic trough S-curved receiver versus the CSS receiver was conducted and solar unit's performances were analyzed. Without any supplementary devices, the S-curved receiver enhances the performance of the parabolic trough module, with a maximum of 0.16% compared to CSS receiver with the same sizes and mass flow rates. Thermal losses were reduced by 7% due to the decrease in the temperature of the outer surface of the receiver tube. In addition, it has been shown that from a mass flow rate of 9.5 kg/s the heat losses of the S-curved receiver remain unchanged despite the improvement in the heat transfer rate.

A parabolic model is presented for the effective calculation of refraction-diffraction of regular water while they are propagating on the water of slowly varying sea bed with currents. Parabolic wave equation has been used in the model, which is derived from a mild-slope equation using Pade' approximation. With the corrections of Kirby's (1986) model some numerical experiments were carried out to analyze the model accuracy.
Related to the error dynamics of an adaptive system, averaging theorems are developed for coupled differential equations which consist of ordinary differential equations and a parabolic partial differential equation. The results are then applied to the convergence analysis of the parameter estimate errors in the model reference adaptive control of a nonautonomous parabolic partial differential equation with lowly time-varying parameters.

A wide-angle approximation in the parabolic equation method is presented to calculate wave transformation in the shallow water. The parabolic approximation to the mild-slope equation is obtain-ed by the use of a splitting matrix, which leads to a generalized equation in form. A numerical model based on a finite difference scheme is presented and computational results are provided to test the model against the laboratory measurements of circular and elliptical shoals. The numerical results are in good agreement with most of experimental data. Therefore it can be concluded that the model shows greater capability to reproduce the characteristics of waves in the refractive focus.

The advent or high-strength steel has enabled the arch structures to be relatively light, durable and long-spanned by reducing the cross sectional area. On the other hand, the possibility of collapse may be increased due to the slender members which may cause the stability problems. The limit analysis to estimate the ultimate load is based on the concept of collapse mechanism that forms the plastic zone through the full transverse sections. So, it is not appropriate to apply it directly to the instability analysis of arch structures that are composed with compressive members. The objective of this study is to evaluate the ultimate load carrying capacity of the parabolic arch by using the elasto-plastic finite element model. As the rise to span ratio (h/L) varies from 0.0 to 0.5 with the increment of 0.05, the ultimate load has been calculated fur arch structures subjected to uniformly distributed vertical loads. Also, the disco-elasto-plastic analysis has been carried out to find the duration time until the behavior of arch begins to show the stable state when the estimated ultimate load is applied. It may be noted that the maximum ultimate lead of the parabolic arch occurs at h/L=0.2, and the appropriate ratio can be recommended between 0.2 and 0.3. Moreover, it is shown that the circular arch may be more suitable when the h/L ratio is less than 0.2, however, the parabolic arch can be suggested when the h/L ratio is greater than 0.3. The ultimate load carrying capacity of parabolic arch can be estimated by the well-known formula of kEI/L$^3$where the values of k have been reported in this study. In addition, there is no general tendency to obtain the duration time of arch structures subjected to the ultimate load in order to reach the steady state. Merely, it is observed that the duration time is the shortest when the h/L ratio is 0.1, and the longest when the h/L ratio is 0.2.
The aim of this study is to analyze the performance of a parabolic trough solar collector (PTC) for water heating and to validate the model performance. The simulated model was compared, calibrated and verified with the experimental results. RMSE (Root mean square error) was used to calibrate the convective heat transfer coefficient between the absorber pipe and the ambient air which was the main factor affecting the heat transfer associated with the PTC. The calibrated model was better fitted with the experimental model. The maximum, minimum and mean deviation between the measured and predicted water temperatures differed only $0.81^{\circ}C$, $0.09^{\circ}C$ and $0.31^{\circ}C$ respectively in the calibrated model. RMSE values were decreased from 0.5389 to 0.4910, 0.0134 to 0.0125 and R-squared was increased from 0.9955 to 0.9956 after calibration. The temperature of water was increased from $33.7^{\circ}C$ to $48^{\circ}C$ in 12hour test. The thermal efficiency of the collector was calculated to be 55%. The calibrated model showed good agreement with the experimental data for model validation.
