  • The purpose of this study was to make a basic research on college cultural contents education in an effort to step up the manifestation of the creativity of cultural contents experts in line with the development of the fast-changing era of creative economy. It's basically meant to analyze the characteristics of cultural contents education in relation to creative idea to seek practical ways of improving that education. What problems there were with cultural contents education and how that education was actually provided were analyzed to suggest some of the right directions for client-centered cultural contents education. Earlier studies were analyzed, and the results of a survey that was conducted on students whose major was linked to cultural contents were analyzed as well. As a result, current cultural contents education was considered not to be satisfactory due to existing teaching methods, learning process and curriculums that were devoid of creativity. To rectify the situation, interdisciplinary attempts should be made such as multi-major, interdisciplinary programs or convergence education, and plenty of experiments, sufficient practice and an increase in the number of faculty members are all required. In terms of education, existing curriculums and courses should urgently be revamped to strengthen field placement and creative discussions. As for educational methods, the lecture method should be avoided, and specialized education should be offered instead, which should strike a balance between discussion, team play and project education. It is expected to produce good results if there are appropriate connection among different major fields of study and the harmonious implementation of diverse internship, convergence and field placement programs.

  • Endophytic fungi are little known for their role in gibberellins (GAs) synthesis and abiotic stress resistance in crop plants. We isolated 10 endophytes from the roots of field-grown soybean and screened their culture filtrates (CF) on the GAs biosynthesis mutant rice line - Waito-C. CF bioassay showed that endophyte GMH-1B significantly promoted the growth of Waito-C compared with controls. GMH-1B was identified as Penicillium minioluteum LHL09 on the basis of ITS regions rDNA sequence homology and phylogenetic analyses. GC/MS-SIM analysis of CF of P. minioluteum revealed the presence of bioactive $GA_4$ and $GA_7$. In endophyte-soybean plant interaction, P. minioluteum association significantly promoted growth characteristics (shoot length, shoot fresh and dry biomasses, chlorophyll content, and leaf area) and nitrogen assimilation, with and without sodium chloride (NaCl)-induced salinity (70 and 140 mM) stress, as compared with control. Field-emission scanning electron microcopy showed active colonization of endophyte with host plants before and after stress treatments. In response to salinity stress, low endogenous abscisic acid and high salicylic acid accumulation in endophyte-associated plants elucidated the stress mitigation by P. minioluteum. The endophytic fungal symbiosis of P. minioluteum also increased the daidzein and genistein contents in the soybean as compared with control plants, under salt stress. Thus, P. minioluteum ameliorated the adverse effects of abiotic salinity stress and rescued soybean plant growth by influencing biosynthesis of the plant's hormones and flavonoids.

  • Forest harvest as large scale artificial disturbance makes edge environment in both clear-cutted and forested habitat. To clarify the development and recovery process of forest edge after disturbances is essential to understand vegetation responses and landscape level consequences such as edge-distance. In Korea, after clear-cutting, edge-related changes of environment and vegetation was not clarified yet. In Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora) forest, by applying space-for-time approach (sites with undisturbed and 1, 3, 10, 16 yr after cutting), the edge-related change of plant abundance and abiotic factors were determined for 20 line-transect (60 m) and 340 ($1m{\times}5m$) quadrats, and clarified depth and duration of the disturbance. Immediately after edge formation, within 15m form the edge, biotic and abiotic factors such as cover, richness, canopy openness, temperature and moisture content exhibited larger changes compared to forest interior. Plant abundance and abiotic variables were stabilized at the level of forest inside within 16 yr and 10 yr after edge creation, respectively. Woody (tree and shrub) species generally was showed larger increment with proximity to edge than did herb or graminoid species. In addition, negative interactions between woody and herbaceous species were detected during the period of forest edge closure. Our results suggested that depth of forest edge formed by clear-cutting of Korean red pine forest was at least from 15 m to 20 m and edge effect were likely sustained more than 16 years. As the first empirical study on edge-distance between two contrast habitats of clear-cutted and adjacent forest in South Korea, the analytical reality on landscape structure and habitat patches can be improved.

  • In Korea, a variety of policies for the regional cultural industry development have been carried out: the promotion policy of cultural industry cluster, the establishment of cultural industry support center, and the construction of cultural industry complex and the supporting works for the cultural research center. The cultural industry has a dual character of the manufacturing industry and the service industry. The cultural industry of Gyeongbuk province is mostly centered upon small manufacturing firms with low value-added. Thus, it is desperately in need of the building-up of the enterprise supporting system. However, it is difficult to expect that private business service finns can be activated. In this sense, local and regional governments seek to establish so called 'the cultural contents support center'. However, it is not clear whether the center is an organization for the production of cultural contents or an agency for the support of cultural contents industry. Also it does not prepare any major functional introduction facilities and performing programs. Most of all, it is necessary to establish a proper orientation that 'the cultural contents support center' must be not an organization for the direct production of cultural contents, but an organization supporting cultural industry by way of providing cultural industry enterprises with what is necessary for the production of cultural contents. Also, a system for the establishment of business fitting support policy that can cover the whole sectors of cultural industry must be prepared. Furthermore, a synthetic support system for the cultural business associated industries centered on specified sectors such as films, edutainment, and storytelling must be constructed. Finally an environment for the creation and inducement of cultural industry enterprises, and for the active participation of enterprises and related groups in the promotion planning and in the policies of cultural industry must be built along with on- and off-line networks.

  • A quantitative trait loci (QTL) analysis of traits related to heading and yield was performed develop rice cultivars that are both early maturing and panicle weight type varieties. Our analysis included 120 strains of the Cheongcheong Nagdong doubled haploid (CNDH) variety. An observational growth experiment was conducted to identify genetic agronomic traits of CNDH. Heading date, ten plant weight, moisture, thousand grain weight, and yield had a normal distribution based on the frequency distribution table of the observational growth data. The QTL analysis found one heading-related and nine yield-related QTLs. The LOD of 2.85 was the largest in QTLs for heading date (QHD), 5.39 in QTLs for ten plant weight (QTPW), 3.92 in QTLs for moisture (QM), 4.80 in QTLs for thousand grain weight (QTGW), and 3.7 in QTLs for yield (QY). Genomic analysis detected 58 candidate genes on chromosome 2, 3, 7, 8, and 10. Among those, we found Rcd1 protein and OsERF3 gene in QM, MtN3 and zinc finger protein genes in QTGW, and OsNAC3 protein gene in QY. If further analysis reveals the presence of genes related to water content, thousand grain weight or yield in the CNDH stains, we can develop a selection of varieties that will be capable of coping with climate change and will contribute to global food problems.

  • As the implementation of carbon reduction measures would be monitored starting from 2023 in line with the Paris Agreement, it is crucial and urgent to control GHGs emitted from wastes contributing to 11% of methane emissions. Despite such importance and urgency, 93% of wastes are deposited in unsanitary landfills in developing countries, presenting challenges to methane management. Against the backdrop, landfill gas-to-energy projects have once again drawn attention for their economic substantiality secured through CDM projects while there has been much research actively carried out to estimate methane emissions and GHG reductions in landfills located in developing countries. Although a signifiant difference was found between estimations calculated based on research methodologies and actual results monitored through registered CDM projects, there has not been a study conducted on what is causing such a difference. Accordingly, the research team conducted an analysis of 18 LFG projects out of 46 that were registered as LFG CDM projects under the UNFCCC and has identified precipitation(28%), malfunction(22%), organic content(11%), amount of landfilled waste(11%) and temperature(11%) as key parameters causing the difference between the amount of methane captured and the amount of GHG reduced.

  • This study aims to determine the effects of D-methionine (D-Met) isomer and the methionine precursor 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutanoic acid i (HMBi) supplementation on milk protein synthesis on immortalized bovine mammary epithelial cell (MAC-T). MAC-T cells were seeded using 10-cm dishes and cultured in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium/F12 (DMEM/F12) basic medium. The basic medium of DMEM/F12 was replaced with the lactogenic DMEM/ F12 differentiation medium when 90% of MAC-T cells reached confluency. The best dosage at 0.6 mM of D-Met and HMBi and incubation time at 72 h were used uniformly for all treatments. Each treatment was replicated six times wherein treatments were randomly assigned in a 6-well plate. Cell, medium, and total protein were determined using a bicinchoninic acid protein assay kit. Genes, proteomics and metabolomics analyses were also done to determine the mechanism of the milk protein synthesis pathway. Data were analyzed by two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with supplement type and plate as fixed effects. The least significant difference test was used to evaluate the differences among treatments. The HMBi treatment group had the highest beta-casein and S6 kinase beta-1 (S6K1) mRNA gene expression levels. HMBi and D-Met treatments have higher gene expressions compared to the control group. In terms of medium protein content, HMBi had a higher medium protein quantity than the control although not significantly different from the D-Met group. HMBi supplementation stimulated the production of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit protein essential for protein translation initiation resulting in higher medium protein synthesis in the HMBi group than in the control group. The protein pathway analysis results showed that the D-Met group stimulated fructose-galactose metabolism, glycolysis pathway, phosphoinositide 3 kinase, and pyruvate metabolism. The HMBi group stimulated the pentose phosphate and glycolysis pathways. Metabolite analysis revealed that the D-Met treatment group increased seven metabolites and decreased uridine monophosphate (UMP) production. HMBi supplementation increased the production of three metabolites and decreased UMP and N-acetyl-L-glutamate production. Taken together, D-Met and HMBi supplementation are effective in stimulating milk protein synthesis in MAC-T cells by genes, proteins, and metabolites stimulation linked to milk protein synthesis.

  • This study aims to identify the status of oral care of professional soldiers and analyze the relationship between oral care needs and oral health symptoms based on oral health recognition, thus providing an opportunity to create a system for improving oral health of professional soldiers. The study was conducted on a total of 232 military personnel aged 19 or older who were employed in the military. The questionnaire for this study was commissioned to respond by explaining the purpose of the study and how to respond to the survey by telephone with the selected sub-employer. The content included in the questionnaire consisted of general characteristics, oral care status, and awareness of dental hygienists. When the subjective oral health condition was poor, normal, or good, it was all shown that the toothbrush was done more than three times a day, and the oral examination was all examined. In particular, 68.1 percent of the respondents said they were in good subjective health. Preventive treatment was the highest in the group with good subjective oral health. Of the total respondents, 83.6 percent said "yes" to the question of knowing dental hygienists, while 65.5 percent said "yes" to the question of whether they know the work of dental hygienists, recognizing that most of the respondents were aware of dental hygienists and their work. Both the group that said they knew the dental hygienist and the group that said they did not know answered 43.5% as an assistant. In conclusion, oral health projects will have to be carried out in line with military situations in order to maintain a healthy oral state of professional soldiers, and long-term planning for active oral health care, especially as an important role of personnel in charge of health care in the military is needed.

  • This study aims to analyse the research trends and identify issues in elementary physical education in the new normal era. For this purpose, the taxonomic analysis method proposed by Spradley (2016) was applied, and 43 Korean academic articles were finally categorised and analysed. The findings are as follows. First, due to the changes in the educational environment caused by COVID-19, most of the remote and online physical education classes were conducted as content-oriented classes. It was found that there was a lack of communication between teachers and students in online physical education classes. Second, the difficulties of remote and online physical education classes and online and offline combined physical education classes, as well as research on how to overcome and improve them, were concentrated. Third, the need for evolution of physical education teachers and training of future professionals in line with the methodological transformation of primary physical education and the current situation was raised. In addition, the number of studies utilising blended learning, flipped learning, and new technologies, which have gained attention in primary physical education due to COVID-19, has increased. Based on the findings, we proposed the direction and future tasks of elementary physical education in the new normal era.
