Purpose: This study was to compare nursing performance by career levels in a career ladder system. Methods: This survey was conducted with 140 OR staff nurses. Ten unit managers evaluated their own staff with a performance evaluation tool composed of 51 items. Data were analyzed by frequency, t-test, one-way ANOVA, ${\chi}^2$-test, and ANCOVA. Results: In career level CN II, nursing performance showed differences by personal characteristics. However, there was no significant difference in level CN III. CN IIIs' nursing performance was significantly higher than CN IIs' in all domains. Nursing performance of CN III was significantly higher than CN IIs' in 5 to 10 years of clinical experience. Although there was no significant difference in other clinical experience groups, CN IIIs' scores were always higher than CN IIs' Conclusion: The results indicate that nursing performance improves with career ladder advancement. Organizations should encourage advancement to higher levels and eliminate obstacles.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the learning style, learning efficacy, transfer of learning, and confidence in performance competence of Core Basic Nursing Skills (CBNS) and factors influencing confidence in performance competence of CBNS by nursing students. Methods: A descriptive study design was used. Participants were 148 nursing students. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 for descriptive statistics, ANCOVA, correlation and regression. Results: Learning styles of the participants were assimilator 33.11%, accommodator 26.35%, diverger 23.65%, and converger 16.89%. Learning efficacy was significantly different according to learning styles, however, transfer of learning and confidence in performance competence of CBNS were not significantly different according to learning styles. Confidence in performance competence of CBNS positively correlated with transfer of learning and learning efficacy. Transfer of learning was a significant predictor of confidence in performance competence of CBNS. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that transfer of learning influences confidence in performance competence of CBNS. Thus, nursing faculty should develop educational strategies to enhance and improve transfer of learning, and development of effective confidence in performance competence of CBNS programs.
Purpose: This study was performed to understand the perceived importance and performance frequencies of nursing interventions and identify the core and major interventions in oncology units. Methods: Questionnaires using 151 nursing interventions were given to 45 nurses. The performance frequency was measured through the database of the nursing process recording system for 1 year. Results: The perceived importance of the nursing interventions averaged out to be 3.5 among 4 and on average 36.5 times of nursing interventions were performed on each patient. Fifteen core nursing interventions including 'pain management' were identified and they made up 82.7% of the entire performance frequency rate. And 26 interventions including 'drug administration: Amphotericin-B' were identified as major nursing interventions and occupied 10.6% of the entire performance frequency rate. Conclusion: Since the core and the major nursing interventions were identified and these occupied 93.3% of the all nursing interventions, these results can be utilized as baseline data for establishing the guidelines and standards of nursing interventions and providing systematic education for oncology nurses in Korea.
Purpose: This study was conducted to identify factors affecting nursing performance of delirium among general hospital clinical nurses. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study and conducted from July 20 to July 30 2015, with a sample consisting of 167 registered nurses in three general hospitals. Data were analyzed with SPSS 21.0. Results: Nursing performance of delirium had significant positive correlations with knowledge about delirium (r=.25, p=.001), self-confidence in caring for patients with delirium (r=.45, p<.001) and nursing work environment (r=.29, p<.001). In this study, factors affecting nursing performance of delirium were self-confidence in caring for patients with delirium (${\beta}=.33$, p<.001), nursing work environment (${\beta}=.26$, p<.001), experience in nursing education about delirium(${\beta}=.18$, p=.007) and clinical experience (${\beta}=.18$, p=.007). The factors explained 32% of nursing performance of delirium. Conclusion: This study's results can be used as basic data to develope educational programs related to delirium care through continuing education and to improve work environments in developing strategies to enhance nursing performance for patients with delirium.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing the Exercise Performance of elderly patients with diabetes. The subjects were 153 elderly patients with diabetes who were selected from the public health center in Gwang ju. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression. This study found that approximately 52.9% of the subjects were exercising regularly. Exercise performance was significantly different according to education level, family income by month, and level of diabetes education. Significant factors influencing exercise performance were exercise self-efficacy, exercise social support and exercise benefits. The most powerful predictor of exercise performance was exercise self-efficacy(34.2%). This study suggests that nurses should emphasize exercise social support. and exercise benefits as well as reinforce exercise self-efficacy to improve exercise performance of the elderly patients with diabetes.
Purpose: Purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing forensic nursing performance role of Emergency Department(ED) nurses. Methods: The study was conducted with 120 ED nurses from Busan. Data were collected during July, 2013 and analyzed using SPSS Win 19.0 program. Results: There were positive correlations between awareness of the forensic nursing role and forensic interest (r=.29, p=.001), between awareness of the forensic nursing role and forensic nursing performance role (r=.54, p<.001), and between forensic experience and forensic nursing performance role (r=.26, p=.004). Awareness of forensic nursing role (${\beta}=.50$, p<.001) and experience in forensics (${\beta}=.24$, p<.001) were significant predictors of forensic nursing role performance and explained 35.9% of the variance. Conclusion: To improve forensic experience, medical institutions should provide education and training for ED nurses to increase their indirect experience. Periodic assessment should also be done. Nurses with training assigned to the ED will enhance the forensic nursing role performance.
Purpose: This study was a descriptive correlation research to identify the relationships between nursing performance, compassion fatigue, and job stress in emergency room nurses and to provide basic data on reducing job stress in emergency room nurses. Methods: For the research, this study collected data from August 4 to September 26 with 133 nurses who worked at emergency rooms at 3 general hospitals in Gyeonggi-do with 500 beds, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient with the SPSS 21.0 program. Results: Correlation analysis between nursing performance, compassion fatigue, and job stress demonstrated that the job stress had a significant positive correlation with compassion fatigue and nursing performance. On the other hand, there was no statistically significant correlation between compassion fatigue and nursing performance. Conclusion: The study results showed that the emergency room nurse experienced job stress due to intensive compassion fatigue and nursing performance. Thus, it is necessary to develop intervention programs to reduce job stress in emergency room nurses by alleviating compassion stress and having moderate level of nursing performance.
Purpose: This study aimed to prepare basic data for the development of a nursing intervention program to improve nursing performance by identifying the factors affecting nursing performance in an integrated nursing care service ward. Methods: Participants were 166 nurses who had worked for more than six months in the integrated nursing care service wards of three general hospitals located in B city. Data were collected from July 15 to August 30, 2022 using structured questionnaires and analyzed by T-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression using the IBM SPSS/WIN 25.0 statistical program. Results: Factors affecting the nursing performance of participants were age (β=.58, p<.001), positive psychological capital (β=.41, p<.001), and social support (β=.28, p<.001). The total explanatory power of these variables for nursing performance was 55.8%. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest the need for programs that improve psychological capital and social support while considering nurse's age to enhance their performance in nursing integrated service wards.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of communication competence and burnout on nursing performance in intensive care units (ICU). Method: The participants were 209 nurses from four university hospitals. Measurements included a socio-demographic and job related survey, communication competence inventory, the Maslach burnout inventory and a nursing performance scale. Data were collected from February 6 to 24, 2012, with a self-report questionnaire. The statistical analyses were performed with SPSS 18.0 software. Results: The mean scores for communication competence, burnout and nursing performance were 50.49, 84.72, and 62.18, respectively. Communication competence (r=.44, p<.001) and burn out (r=-.32, p<.001) were significantly correlated with nursing performance. In the multiple linear regression, factors influencing nursing performance were communication competence, age and burnout. These variables explained about 46% of the total variance of nursing performance. Communication competence (${\beta}$=.34, p<.001) was the most influential factor. Conclusion: Nurses' poor communication skills and burnout can influence the occurrences of medical errors in ICU nursing performance. The results suggest that good communication and burnout resolution skills programs should be implemented to improve nursing performance efficiency.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting the performance of the forensic nursing role among emergency department (ED) nurses. Methods: Data collection was conducted on 125 nurses of EDs in 9 medical centers in U metropolitan city from June 20 to July 20, 2016.
