A Study on the Types of Layout in the Intensive Care Unit of Regional Public Hospitals based on the Relationship between the Beds and Nurse Station (병상과 간호스테이션의 관계를 기반으로 한 지방의료원 중환자부 배치유형에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is an important inpatient care area where critical patients are treated intensively with advanced medical technology. The level of care of ICU and the modernization of related facilities is an important indicator of health care quality. At the present time, when the Regional public hospitals are frequently expanding, the rational planning of the ICU has become an important part of the medical institutions treating the ICU. The purpose of this study is to present basic data with net area which can be used in the architectural planning of the ICU. Methods: The investigation and analysis of the ICUs were conducted on 24 medical facilities, based on theoretical analysis through relevant guidelines, articles, and documents, and on the basis of the actual space composition and net area analysis through the architectural drawings. Results: This study provides basic data such as bed placement type of ICU, relationship with other departments, distance between NS and bed, distance between beds, and net area of disease by type. Implications: The results of this paper are expected to be effective reference materials for future research for rational spatial organization and efficient operation of the Intensive Care Unit in regional public hospitals.

Influential Factors Associated with Nursing Competency of Nurses in Long-term Care Hospitals (요양병원 간호사의 간호역량 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate influencing factors on nursing competency of nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: A descriptive research design was used with a convenience sample of 150 nurses. Data were collected from Feb 15 to Mar 8, 2017 using self-reported questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The mean scores of self-efficacy, organizational citizenship behavior and nursing competency were 3.84 out of 5, 3.77 out of 5 and 3.80 out of 5, respectively. Nursing competency was positively correlated with self-efficacy (r=.63, p<.001) and organizational citizenship behavior (r=.64, p<.001). Factors influencing on nursing competency were self-efficacy (${\beta}=.38$, p<.001), organizational citizenship behavior (${\beta}=.37$, p<.001) and Clinical career(${\beta}=.14$, p=.011), which explained 51% of the variance. Conclusion: Based on the finding of this study, it is necessary to develop education and intervention programs in order to increase the nursing competency for nurses in long-term care hospitals.

Intellectual Capital and Organizational Effectiveness of Nurses: Comparison of Public and Private Hospitals (간호조직의 지적자본과 조직유효성: 공공병원과 민간병원의 비교)

  • Objectives : This study was conducted to examine the differences in the association of intellectual capital with organizational effectiveness of nursing organizations between public and private hospitals. Methods : A total of 166 nurses (82 of public hospital and 84 of private hospital) were recruited for the survey. Nurses' job satisfaction, organizational commitment, intellectual capital, sociodemographics, work-related factors, and health status were measured. Results : Nurses of public hospitals reported significantly higher scores in human capital, customer capital, job satisfaction, emotional engagement, and transactional commitments than did those of the private hospital. Human capital private and structural capital were significantly associated with nurses' job satisfaction in both public and private hospitals. Customer capital was positively associated with the emotional and transactional commitment in the public hospital, while, structural capital was associated with transactional and normative commitment in the private hospital. Conclusions : We could confirm that the nurses' intellectual capital is important the effectiveness of nursing organizations in both public and private hospitals.

Effect of Emotional Intelligence, Job Stress, and Communication Ability on Nursing Performance of Nurses Caring for Cancer Patients (암환자를 돌보는 간호사의 감성지능, 직무스트레스, 의사소통능력이 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study examined the effect of emotional intelligence, job stress, and communication ability on nursing performance of nurses caring for cancer patients. Methods: This is a descriptive study involving 185 nurses with an experience of longer than 6 months at K university hospital in B metropolitan city. The data was collected from March 2nd 2021 to March 31st 2021, and analyzed using the descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: The factors affect the nursing performance of participants were emotional intelligence, total clinical career, communication ability, job stress and satisfaction of current department. The total explanatory power of those variables on the nursing performance was 43.8%. Conclusion: In order to improve nursing performance, it is necessary to apply a program for improving emotional intelligence and communication ability, and for controlling and coping with job stress, considering the career of a nurse taking care for cancer patients. In addition, efficient manpower management and material support at the hospital organization level are required.

Development of Management Competency Enhancement Program for Middle-Level Nursing Managers (중간 간호관리자를 위한 관리역량 강화 프로그램 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this program is to develop an educational program to improve the nursing management competency of middle-level nursing managers. Methods: The program outline is based on the results of the Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) and Systematic Review (SR). Also performed the content validity accordingly. Results: The result of the concepts are derived from 6 competencies for planning process, 4 competencies for organizing process, 4 competencies for staffing process, 26 competencies for directing process, and 12 competencies for controlling process by integrating IPA and SR. This outline of the program was constructed according to the derived integrated concept and both content validity and structured outline were interpreted as valid. Conclusion: This suggests that middle-level managers need a systematic program and support to effectively lead the organization by recognizing the importance rather than performance.

The Effect of Needs for Professional Development and Organizational Climate on Organizational Socialization (병원간호사가 지각하는 성장욕구와 조직분위기가 조직사회화에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of needs for professional development and organizational climate on organizational socialization of clinical nurses. A cross-sectional analysis were performed to assess the factors affecting organizational socialization. Methods: The data used in this study were obtained from clinical nurses who were employed in a hospital (N=606). Using multiple regression, we tested variables to assess their effects on organizational socialization in this sample. The data were analyzed using descriptive test, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficiency and stepwise multivariate regression. SPSS 17.0 program was utilized for data analysis. Results: The mean scores of organizational socialization, needs for professional development and organizational climate were statistically differed by career ladder, educational level and position. Organizational socialization had significant positive correlations with the needs for professional development (r=.332, p<.01) and organizational climate (r=.523, p<.01). Those variables including career ladder explained 33.4% of organizational socialization. Conclusion: Our findings indicate that organizational socialization of clinical nurses could be enhanced by meeting the needs for professional development and organizational climate. Developing innovative educations for encouraging clinical nurses' carrier development and creating a positive organizational climate are mandated for clinical nurses to have constructive organizational socialization.

A STUDY OP THE CURRICULUM IMPROVEMENT OP NURSING EDUCATION (간호교육과정의 개선을 위한 일 조사연구)

  • Introduction This study is concerned with improving the nursing education curriculum. The purpose of the study was to 1. Review the basic principles of curriculum development. 2. Determine opinion about current nursing curriculums from recent nursing school graduates. Methods of the study A questionnaire was distributed to 250 nurses, in f general hospitals in Seoul. The nurses were graduated from nursing schools in 1973, but represented all types of nursing programs. The Questionnaire was designed to illicit responses about nursing school curriculums in 5 areas: 1. Establishment of objectives 2. Selection of learning experience 3. Organization of learning experience 4. Instruction 5. Evaluation Summary of the major findings 1. Establishment of objectives Thirty nine point three percent of the nurses said that the first objective of the general nursing education was stated "to educate a nurse as a human being with humanity:" Ninety point eight percent of the total respondents said that thor knew the objectives of the curriculum of their nursing schools, but more half of them (58.3%) understood the objectives vaguely at the time they attended nursing school. 2. Selection of learning experience Thirty nine point eight percent of the respondents said their curriculum contained "only a few" liberal arts courses. 3. Organization of learning experience forty seven point six percent. of the respondents were reported that the number of course hours was "insufficient" in liberal arts courses. Fifty seven point three percent of the nurses felt there was an overemphasis on any special topic in liberal arts courses. 4. Instruction Methods of instruction were as follows: Liberal arts courses-a. lecture which centered on explanation (61.1%), b. lecture which centered on writing (43.7%) Supporting nursing courses-a. lecture which centered on explanation (34.0%). b. laboratory Practice (37.8%) Clinical nursing courses-a. lecture which centered on writing (33.0%), b. clinical practice (38.4%) The percentage of respondents replying that various equipment for the learning activities were "insufficient"were as follows: Liberal arts courses-51.0% Supporting nursing courses-28.6% Clinical nursing courses-37.9% 5. Evaluation In the liberal arts courses, 30.6% o( the respondents answered that the evaluation of records was in their opinion "poor, " and 28.2% of the respondents reported that the method of evaluation was "unfair and discouraging. " "Development of a systematic theory of nursing" was thought to be essential for curriculum improvement. The respondents felt that the junior year was the hardest because 1. Number of subjects was too great (28.1%) 2. Lack of a systematic theory of nursing (14.5%) 3. Conflict due to the difference between nursing theory and nursing practice (21.4%) Recommendations 1. Since this study was limited to nurses who had graduated in 1973, a larger study involving professors, graduate students, and nurses from a wider area is suggested in order to establish the reliability and validity of the present findings. 2. Nursing research should be carried out more actively in order to develope nursing science. 3. A permanent organization for research into ways to improve the curriculum should be established in each nursing school.

A Study on the relationship between nursing organizational culture and organizational performance (병원 간호조직문화와 조직성과에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose : This research is, by investigating the relations between the cultural types of a nursing organization in a hospital and performance, to ascertain the cultural types to be able to improve performance. Method : The data were gathered from 487 nurses and 328 patients who were in eight general hospitals by using the self-report type of questionnaires. The period of data collection was from August 10, 2000 to September 10, 2000. For this research, the following tools were used; the tools for measuring the organizational characteristics, organizational culture, and job satisfaction, the tool for measuring organizational commitment, and the tool for measuring patients' satisfaction. For data analysis the SPSS Win 7.5 program was used. Result : 1) There was a significant difference in the organizational culture type according to the establishment type of hospital. 2) In the relationship between organization characteristics and organizational culture of a hospital were correlated with the type of each culture(p=0.00). 3) In the relation between the organizational culture type of hospital and its performance, there was a strong positive correlation between innovation-oriented culture and job satisfaction. And relation-oriented culture and task-oriented culture showed that they had a weak positive correlation with job satisfaction(p=0.00). There were a positive correlation between affective commitment and relation-oriented, innovation-oriented cultures(p=0.00), and there were no culture type significantly related to continuance commitment and there was a weak positive correlation among normative commitment and innovation-oriented culture, relation-oriented culture(p=0.00). 4) The types to have an influence upon nurses' job satisfaction were innovation-oriented culture and relation-oriented culture. These had 34.5% of influence with job satisfaction.. The type of organizational culture did not influence continuance commitment, but it had an influence on affective commitment and normative commitment. And relation-oriented culture and innovation-oriented culture had 21% of an influence with affective commitment, and they had 9.5% of an influence with normative commitment. Conclusion : As the above mentioned research results, the organizational culture type was found which had an influence upon nurses' job satisfaction and organizational commitment and patients' satisfaction in nursing service. These results are very significant in having showed the persons in charge of nursing administration a basic data for creation of an effective organizational culture.

The investigation of the degree of the request of the education about the claim for the medical expenses in the dentistry health insurance - mainly in the Daejeon, Chungcheong area - (치과건강보험 요양급여비용 청구에 관한 교육요구도 조사 -대전·충청지역을 중심으로-)

  • Objectives : This research has investigated the reality of the education of the claim and the degree of the education for the claimed of the dentistry recuperation organization in the Daejeon and Chuncheong are for the improvement of the problem in the medical expenses. Methods : It use as a basic data for the vitalizations of the education and performed the survey in the dentistry recuperation organization in the Daejeon and ChungCheong Nam BukDo which are registered in the evaluating organization for judging the health insurance in the present May 2010, and concluded just like the below. Results : 1. The education of the claim in the requirer in the dentistry recuperation organization, and the education of the claim was especially lacking when the dentist was studying in the university, and the dental hygienist had the similar educational experience in the school and the clinic (p<0.05) 2. Most of the requirer in the dental recuperation organization was hoping to get the education related to the claim work, but the dentist and the nurse's aid was relatively low (p<0.05) 3. For fixing the error of the claim, the participation and the extension of the judging standard of the insurance was the highest among the university subordinate dental hospital/dental hospital, but the health center was relatively low (p<0.05). 4. The dentist feels the economic burden in employing the special employee because the raising of the special judging people, compared to others, but the staffs such as the dental hygienist preferred it as one of ways to fix the error of the claim of the dental insurance (p<0.05) 5. Both dentists and the dental hygienist said proper time to teach the insurance was all needed in the school, and the clinic, but other workers relatively believed it should be held in the clinic (p<0.05). 6. The important factors to decide the participation of the lecture was in order of the contents of the lecture, the place of the lecture, the amount for the lecture, the superintendent of the lecture, whether it has gone through the educational score, and whether it has passed the conserving educational score was relatively less important in the university subordinate dentist/dentist, but the medical center was very effective as 4.50 (p<0.05) 7. Health Insurance Review and assessment service was very high as the managing department for supplying the lecture and the information, 70.5%, and the next was the Korean Dental Association/ Korean dental hygiene association, but dentists were preferring the association to manage in than the Health Insurance Review and assessment service to manage (p<0.05) 8. In preferring lecture for the inquiring the insurance, periodontal surgery was the highest as 4.51, the diagnosis standard for injection was high in the university subordinate hospital/dentists, and the more the year of the insurance inquiry, the less the doctor who was hoping for the lecture about the basic treatment. Conclusions : Taken together, it is decided that the inquiry education about the medical expense in the dentist, so the consistent and systematic education should be held to the related people, and from this, it is thought to reduce the problem of the inquiry of the medical expenses by fostering the knowledge and supplying the information which are related to the inquiry of the dentists.

A Study on the Training Course for Teachers Holding Additional Job of School Health Nursing in Kyeong Nam Province (양호겸직교사 연수과정에 관한 연구 -경상남도를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide the basic information concerning school health nursing activities in schools lacking in a school nurse, and the degree of satisfaction of trainess to the training course of school health nursing. The data for this study were collected by means of questionnaire from 150 teachers(100 of primary school and 50 of middle school)who attended the training course superintended by the Board of Education of Kyeong Nam Province from July 27 to August 6 in 1987. The main results of this study can be summarized as following; 1. General characteristics of the trainees: The majority of the trainees (71.3%) were in the age of twenties, 86.5% graduated from four-year teachers' college, 63.5% had less than five-year experience as a teacher. 2. 60.5% of the trainees were actually offering school health nursing services. 67.8% decided voluntarily to participate in the training course, and 62.7% attended the course for the purpose of obtaining health knowledge. 3. Only 4.2% of schools established appropriate health organization, and 34.5% were equipped with nursing clinic. But the main reason school health nursing activities were not performed very well was the insufficient supply of needed medicines and related materials. 4. School health nursing services in schools lacking in a school nurse were offered mainly by the teacher holding additional job of school health. class teacher and atheletic teacher. But the sanitary management for school meal services and community health activities were not carried out at all in many schools. 5. As a whole, trainees were satisfied with training program. But some subjects of the course did not satisfy them because those ones were so theoretical without any practice. 6. Many trainees wished the training course to be more concentrated on case studies which are helpful to solve actual problems. 7. 75% of trainees answered to have decided to perform school health nursing activities more actively than before. 8. Any significant relationship can not be found between trainees' general characteristics and their attitude to school health nursing activities after the training course. Only one factor-motivation to attend the training course-had the statistical significance of 8.7%.
