The analysis of linear static and free vibration problems of isotropic and laminated composite plates and shells is performed by the improved 9-node shell element with the new strain displacement relationship. In that relationship, the effect of new additional terms between the bending strain and displacement has been investigated in the warping problem. Natural co ordinate based strains, stresses and constitutive equations are used. The assumed natural strain method is used to alleviate both membrane and shear locking behavior from the element. The Lanczos method is employed in the calculation of the eigenvalues of laminated composite structures and the Gauss integration rule is adopted to evaluate the mass matrix. The numerical examples are compared with the analytical solutions to validate the current formulation and the results presented could be useful for the understanding of the behaviour of laminates under free vibration conditions.
The behaviour of alloys in the semi-solid state strongly depends on the imposed stress state and on the morphology of the phase which can vary from dendritic to globular. To optimal net shape forging of semi-solid materials, it is important to investigate for filling phenomena in forging process of arbitrarily shaped dies. To produce a automotive part which has good mechanical property, the filling pattern according to die velocity and solid fraction distribution has to be estimated for arbitrarily shaped dies. Therefore, the estimation of filling characteristic in the forging simulation with arbitrarily shaped dies of semi-solid materials are calculated by finite element method with proposed algorithm. The proposed theoretical model and a various boundary conditions for arbitrarily shaped dies is investigated with the coupling calculation between the liquid phase flow and the solid phase deformation. The simulation process with arbitrarily shaped dies is performed to the isothermal conditions of two dimensional problems. To analysis of forging process by using semi-solid materials, a new stress-strain relationship is described, and forging analysis is performed by viscoelastic model for the solid phase and the Darcy's law for the liquid flow. The calculated results for forging force and filling limitations will be compared to experimental data. The filling simulation of simple products performed with the uniform billet temperature(584$^{\circ}C$) from the induction heating by the commercial package MAGMAsoft. The initial step of computation is the touching of semi-solid material with the end of die gate and the initial concept of proposed system just fit with the capability of MAGMAsoft.
The main purpose of this paper is to present deflections of laminated composite plates on the two-parameter foundations. that is an elastic foundation with shear layer. This paper focuses on the deformation behaviour of anisotropic structures on elastic foundations. The third-order shear deformation theory is applied by using the double-fourier series. To validate the derived equations the obtained displacements for simply supported isotropic and orthotropic plates on elastic foundations are compared with those of Timoshenko and LUSAS program. The results show an excellent agreement for the isotropic and LUSAS program. The results show an excellent agreement for the isotropic and orthotropic plates on the elastic foundations. Numerical results for displacements are presented to show the effects of side-to-thickness ratio aspect ratio, material anisotropy and shear modulus of foundations.
Recently, EPS which has unit weight of only 20~30kg/m3, is used for acquiring the safety of settlement and bearing capacity, In Korea, EPS was first used in 1993 as backfill material for abutment that was constructed on soft ground in Inchon. Since then EPS has been used increasingly as backfill material. However, adequate modelling has not yet been proposed for the prediction of the behavior of EPS. Only it's design strength was proposed as the results of unconfined strength and creep test. Accordingly this paper executed triaxial compression test on EPS with various density and confining pressure. Through the analysis of test data the behavior of EPS for strainstress, tangential modulus and poisson's ratio can be expressed in functions with parameters of density and confining pressure of EPS. From these results, this paper proposed a nonliner model describing the behavior of EPS.
In this paper, numerical pile segment analysis is conducted with an advanced soil elastoplastic model to investigate the diameter effects on skin friction behaviour of a drilled shaft in sand. Ultimate skin friction and 't-z' behavior from the pile segment analyses for drilled shafts show good agreement with those from design methods. Higher ultimate skin friction for the smaller diameter pile is related to the greater increase in the effective radial stress at the interface due to the localized dilation at and near the pile interface. Stiffer t-z curve for the smaller diameter pile is related to the early occurrence of three shear stages (early, dilation, constant volume shear stages). The diameter effects on ultimate skin friction of drilled shafts are more prominent for denser sand and lower confining pressure.

In this work, a simple but accurate hyperbolic plate theory for the free vibration analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates is developed. The significant feature of this formulation is that, in addition to including the shear deformation effect, it deals with only 3 unknowns as the classical plate theory (CPT), instead of 5 as in the well-known first shear deformation theory (FSDT) and higher-order shear deformation theory (HSDT). A shear correction factor is, therefore, not required. Two common types of FGM sandwich plates are considered, namely, the sandwich with the FGM face sheet and the homogeneous core and the sandwich with the homogeneous face sheet and the FGM core. The equation of motion for the FGM sandwich plates is obtained based on Hamilton's principle. The closed form solutions are obtained by using the Navier technique. The fundamental frequencies are found by solving the eigenvalue problems. Numerical results of the present theory are compared with the CPT, FSDT, order shear deformation theories (HSDTs), and 3D solutions. Verification studies show that the proposed theory is not only accurate and simple in solving the free vibration behaviour of FGM sandwich plates, but also comparable with the higher-order shear deformation theories which contain more number of unknowns.
An accurate analysis of pipeline transient is important for proper management and operation of a water distribution systems. The computational accuracy and its cost are two distinct components for unsteady flow analysis model, which can be strength and weakness of three-dimensional model and one-dimensional model, respectively. In this study, we used two-dimensional unsteady flow model with Five-Region Turbulence model (FRTM) with the implementation of interaction between liquid and air Since FRTM has an empirical component to be determined, we explored the response feature of two-dimensional flow model. The relationship between friction behaviour and the variation of undetermined parameter was configured through the comparison between numerical simulations and experimental results.

Recently, modern long-stroke diesel engines with small number of cylinders have been installed for energy saving and simpler maintenance. These kinds of low speed diesel engine produce large torsional vibration in the shafting, which induces the excessive vibratory stresses in the shafting and large propeller thrust variation. This thrust variation excites vibrations of the shafting and superstructure in the longitudinal direction. Up to now the deteriministic analysis of coupled vibration of marine shafting system has been performed. In this paper probabilistic analysis method of the marine diesel propulsion shafting system under coupled axial and torsional vibrations is presented. For the purpose of this work, the torsional and axial vibration excitations of engine and propeller are assumed to be probabilistic while the lateral excitation is assumed to be deterministic. The probabilistic analysis is based on a response surface and Monte-Carlo simulation. Numerical results based on the proposed method are compared with results calculated using the conventional deterministic analysis method. The results obtained make it clear that the proposed method gives a substantial increase in information about shafting behaviour as compared with the deterministic method.
The settling concentration of fine suspended solid particles(alumina(Al$_2$O$_3$) and quartz(SiO$_2$)) is investigated with the physico-chemical effects(initial concentration, pH and NaCl). Laboratory tests have confirmed the significant influence of increasing initial concentration and salinity which can lead to flocculation due to the intermolecular attraction. Furthermore, the influence of the pH value on the concentration-time corves of alumina has been on firmed. Besides a numerical model to predict the behaviour of cohesive deposit under still water is analyzed by solving the unsteady one-dimensional diffusion-advection equation with a explicit, implicit, Crank-Nicolson and finite difference scheme. The model predicts the existence of an equilibrium concentration. Application of the model with implicit centered difference to data from settling experiments shows a similar distribution.

Geosynthetics are generally utilized to restrain the leakage of leachate and other contaminants during the construction of offshore waste landfill. Therefore, geosynthetic-soil interface is formed inevitably. In this study, 2 dimensional numerical analysis is performed to assess the dynamic behaviour of the offshore waste landfill including geosynthetic-soil interface. Offshore waste landfill can be divided into rubble mound revetment and retaining wall types and analyzed on each type. Effective stress analysis is conducted to consider the variation of pore water pressure and axial force and shear displacement of the interface are compared based on the characteristics of seismic frequency. Consequently, retaining wall type demonstrates more stable behavior against liquefaction potential and favorable forces and shear displacement.
