A computational study on the supersonic flow around the lateral jet controlled missile has been performed. Case studies have been performed by comparing the normal force coefficient and the moment coefficient of a missile body for several different jet flow conditions, angle of attacks, circumferential jet locations, and spouting jet angles. For the several different jet flow conditions, which include the jet pressure, the jet Mach number, and the corresponding jet mass flow rate, the results show that the normal force coefficient is almost proportional to the jet thrust but the moment coefficient is not. Distinctly different flow phenomena can be noticed as the pressure ratio and the jet Mach number increase. By investigating the angle of attack effect to the normal force and the pitching moment, it has been identified that the normal force and the pitching moment show nonlinearity with respect to the angle of attack. From the detailed flow field analyses with respect to the jet flow conditions and the angle of attacks, it is verified that most of the normal force loss and the pitching moment generation are taken place at the low-pressure region behind the jet nozzle. Furthermore, the normal force and the pitching moment characteristics of the missile have been identified by comparing different circumferential jet locations and spouting jet angles.

Two different type scramjet models with side-wall compression and top-wall compression inlets have been tested in HPTF (Hypersonic Propulsion Test Facility) under the experimental conditions of Mach number 5.8, total temperature 1700K, total pressure 4.5㎫ and mass flow rate 3.5kg/s. The liquid kerosene was used as main fuel for the scramjets. In order to get fast ignition in the combustor, a small amount of hydrogen was used as a pilot. A strut with alternative tail was employed for increasing the compression ratio and for mixing enhancement in the side-wall compression case. Recessed cavities were used as a flameholder for combustion stability. The combustion efficiency was estimated by one dimensional theory. The uniformity of the facility nozzle flow was verified by a scanning pitot rake. The experimental results showed that the kerosene fuel was successfully ignited and stable combustion was achieved for both scramjet models. However the thrusts were still less than the model drags due to the low combustion efficiencies.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the enhancement of heat transfer without additional external power in the case of rectangular air jet impinging vertically on the flat heating surface. In an attempt to enhance the heat transfer rate in two-dimensional impinging jet, the technique used in the present study was placement of square rod bundles as a turbluence promoter in front of the heat transfer surface. The effects of the clearance between the flat plate and square rod, and the nozzle exit velocity on the heat transfer characteristics have been investigated experimentally. The results obtained through this study were summerized as follows. High heat transfer enhancement was achived by means of flow acceleration and thinning of boundary layer by inserting rods in front of the heating flat plate. The smaller the clearance between rod and heating plate was, the larger heat transfer effect became. Average Nusselt number reached maximum at $Re=5.76{\times}10^4$ and C=1㎜ and the enhancement rate of heat transfer became maxium at this condition with the enhancement ratio as high as about 1.427 when normalized by the flat plate value. The correlating equation of average Nusselt number and Reynolds number was obtained, which is $\bar{N}uo=1.324{\cdot}Re^{0.459}{\cdot}(C/A)^{-0.034}$.

In this paper, supersonic jets impinging on axisymmetric cone were investigated to obtain fundamental design data for jet deflector case of example being VTOL/STOL or rocket launch. It was of interest to study flow phenomena such as shock interactions and separation induced by shear layer. Experiments were conducted to obtain schlieren flow visualization and measurement of surface pressure. Numerical results are compared with the experimental result. The dominant feature of the flow is the shock pattern induced by the interaction between the cone shock and the barrel shock. This pattern can take a wide variety of forms depending on the structure of the free jet and strongly influences the form of the surface pressure distributions.
Flue gas recirculation (FGR) is widely adopted to control NO emission in combustion systems. Recirculated flue gas decreases flame temperature and reaction rate, resulting in the decrease in thermal NO production. Recently, it has been demonstrated that the recirculated flue gas in fuel stream, that is, the fuel induced recirculation (FIR), could enhance much improved reduction in NO per unit mass of recirculated gas, as compared to conventional FGR in air. In the present study, the effect of dilution methods in air and fuel sides on NO reduction has been investigated numerically by using $N_2$ and $CO_2$ as diluent gases to simulate flue gases. Counterflow diffusion flames were studied in conjunction with the laminar flamelet model of turbulent flames. Results showed that $CO_2$ dilution was more effective in NO reduction because of large temperature drop due to the larger specific heat of $CO_2$ compared to $N_2$. Fuel dilution was more effective in reducing NO emission than air dilution when the same recirculation ratio of dilution gas was used by the increase in the nozzle exit velocity, thereby the stretch rate, with dilution gas added to fuel side.

Pseudo-3D Spatial distribution of spray droplets is investigated by using Dual-mode Phase Doppler Anemometry (DPDA) in order to examine the disintegration and spreading behavior of spray exiting from liquid-thruster injector. Spray injected from nozzle orifice with length-to-diameter ratio $(L/d_o)$ of 1.67 and at the injection pressure of 27.6 bar is aligned to the vertical. Vertical and horizontal mean velocities of droplets, Arithmetic Mean Diameter (AMD), Sauter Mean Diameter (SMD), and volumetric flux decrease as droplets travel from center/upstream toward outer region/downstream of spray.

The 2nd stage Kick Motor under the national aerospace middle and long term plan operates over the height of 300Km. Rocket Motors, designed for operation in high altitude, need nozzles with large expansion ratio to improve thrust efficiency. Hence, to evaluate the performance of such rocket motors on the ground, similar low pressure with the operating condition has to be made for the ground test to prevent flow separation in the nozzle. This study is for the installation of the high altitude test facility and test result for Kick Motor.

Design and fabrication of Technology Demonstration Model(TDM) of 75 tonf regenerative cooling thrust chamber were described. It has design chamber pressure of 60 bar, propellant mass flow rate of 243.6 kg/s, and nozzle expansion ratio of 12. It has a single welded structure of the mixing head and the chamber. Design and fabrication technologies established through this TDM can be used to development of flight model.

C/SiC composites were developed by a liquid silicon infiltration(LSI) method for use as heat-resistant parts of solid and liquid rocket propulsion engines. The heat resistance characteristics according to the composition ratio (carbon / silicon / silicon carbide) were evaluated by specimen test through arc plasma, supersonic torch test. An ablation equation for oxidation reactions was presented. Through the combustion test it was verified that various parts such as nozzle insert, exit cone and combustion chamber heat resistant parts for rocket propulsion can be manufactured and proved high ablation performance and thermal structure performance.

This study was conducted on a high-temperature/high-pressure washer in which low-pressure cold water in a boiler is heated to a temperature range of $70{\sim}80^{\circ}C$ by supplying diesel combustion heat. The high-temperature water is sent to a compressor to increase its pressure to 200 bar, thereby making high-temperature/high-pressure water, which is sprayed through a spray nozzle. In the results of this study, the spray temperature of the high-pressure washing was shown to be the highest when the ratio between the actual amount of combustible air and the theoretical amount of air was 1:1 and the energy consumption rate of the low-pressure boiler type high-pressure washer was shown to be much lower than that of the high-pressure boiler type high-pressure washer.
