폐글리세롤을 이용한 친환경 가소제의 경구투여독성 및 피부자극성 시험 (The oral dose toxicity test and skin irritation test of eco-friendly plasticizer using crude glycerol derived)

  • Objectives: The major objective of this study is the oral dose toxicity test and skin irritation test of eco-friendly plasticizer using crude glycerol derived from the biodiesel process. Methods: Glyceroldiacetate laurate(GDL) was synthesized from glycerol monolaurat(GML) and acetic acid. The synthesis of the GDL plasticizer was measured with nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscop(NMR) and FT-IR(Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer). To provide information on the safety of GDL, we carried out an oral dose toxicity test for GDL in Sprague-Dawley rats. Also, we carried out a skin irritation test for GDL in New Zealand White rabbits. Results: The oral dose toxicity test in Sprague-Dawley rats showed that GDL is a non-toxic material. The result of the skin irritation test on New Zealand White rabbits showed that GDL is non-irritating. Conclusions: From the results of oral dose toxicity test and skin irritation test, we concluded that the developed plasticizer showed excellent eco-friendly property. Based on our results, we confirmed the development of an eco-friendly non-phthalate plasticizer. Applicability for PVC toys and food and drug packaging materials was found.

내추럴 퀄쯔와 화산암재 스코리아의 기능성 마그네타이징 처리 (Functional Magnetizing Treatment of Natural Quartz and Volcanic Lava Scoria)

  • 비자성이며 비전도성의 물리적 성질을 갖는 자연산 퀄쯔(quartz)와 제주도 삼방산 근처에서 채취한 화산 용암석 스코리아를 대상으로 자성화(magnetization) 처리를 하여 특성을 분석하였다. 마그네타이징(magnetizing) 처리를 위하여 강력한 기계화학적 분쇄 반응을 시켰으며, 분쇄 반응시 알코올계의 솔벤트를 반응용매로 사용하였다. 퀼쯔와 스코리아의 마그네타이징 처리에서 비중이 작은 스코리아와 비교적 비중이 큰 퀼쯔의 경우에서도 분쇄반응 후 분말이 수면 위에 떠있는 부유특성이 있음을 확인하였고, 친유성(oleophilic)으로 기름에 대한 흡착성이 우수함을 확인하였다. 실험과정에서 자연산 퀼쯔와 함께 스코리아를 바탕물질로 기계-화학적 반응(MCR) 기술로 고 분산성 흡착 반응에 의한 고분자 물질을 생성, 유도하여 퀼쯔-나노복합체(quartz nanocomposite)를 제조하였다. 부착성 융합복합물질의 특징으로부터 시그니토마그네틱스(Segnetomagnetics)로 분류되는 합성분말은 특히 유류성분에 대하여 높은 흡착성을 가지며, 강한 자기적 성질을 띄는 10~50 nm두께의 하나 또는 그 이상의 이질적 융합화합물 층이 석영이나 수정체의 표면에 형성되어 특유의 자기적, 전기적 성질을 나타냄이 확인되었다. 따라서 퀼쯔에 비하여 제주도를 비롯한 화산지역에 널리 분포되어있는 양질의 저렴한 화산암재 스코리아를 활용하여 자성화 양산체제를 갖춘다면, 최근에 빈발하고 있는 해양 선박사고를 비롯하여 내수면 선박사고 등으로 수면 상에 유출된 회수곤란성 저밀도 유류물질을 연속적으로 흡착, 제거할 수 있는 흡유성자기유류 회수용 기능성 재료로의 응용개발 가능성과 함께 유용한 산업용 기능성 신소재로의 활용성에서 환경복원용신기능성 신소재, 국민보건 향상과 건강산업 육성발전을 위한 건강용품 개발 및 목재 등의 식물성 유기재료의 자성화 처리를 위한 응용기술로의 활용가능성면에서도 기대되는 바가 크다.

  • 폐자동차 파쇄를 통한 주요구성물질의 분리 및 분석평가를 위한 현장실험을 수행하였다. 모재인 폐자동차 차피로는 국내 자동차 업체에서 제작한 Sonata II, Sephia 및 Prince의 3종을 선택하여 엔진부분과 타이어 및 문짝 등을 미리 제거하고 압축된 상태로 제공받았다. 현장설비의 주요 공정은 pre- 및 main-shredder, 분급기, 자선기, 와류선별기 및 수작업 분리로 구성되어 있었다. shredder 산물의 현장 분리실험결과 철 스크랩이 전체의 60.1%를 차지하여 가장 비중이 높았으며, 알루미늄, 구리 및 아연 등의 비철금속류는 약 2% 정도인 것으로 나타났다. Light fluff는 fluff 전체 중량의 90% 정도를 차지하는 것으로 관찰되었으며, 5cm undersize 가 70.5%로써 대부분이었고 나머지는 플라스틱, 섬유 및 스폰지 등으로 구성되어 있었다 heavy fluff의 경우에는 고무와 플라스틱이 주구성물질인 것으로 나타났으며, 발열량의 경우 플라스틱이 10,000 cal/gr을 상회하여 가장 높았고 가죽과 고무류가 각각 10.3 및 2.55 wt%의 비교적 높은 CI함량을 보였다.

Band structure, electron-phonon interaction and superconductivity of yttrium hypocarbide

  • Band parameters and superconductivity of yttrium hypocarbide ($Y_2C$) have been investigated. The computations are performed using first-principles pseudopotential method within a generalized gradient approximation. The equilibrium lattice parameters have been determined and compared with experiment. Moreover, the material of interest is found to be stiffer for strains along the a-axis than those along the c-axis. A band-structure analysis of $Y_2C$ implied that the latter has a metallic character. The examination of Eliashberg Spectral Function indicates that Y-related phonon modes as well as C-related phonon modes are considerably involved in the progress of scattering of electrons. By integrating this function, the value of the average electron-phonon coupling parameter (${\lambda}$) is found to be 0.362 suggesting thus that $Y_2C$ is a weak coupling Bardeen-Copper-Schrieffer superconductor. The use of a reasonable value for the effective Coulomb repulsion parameter (${\mu}^*=0.10$) yielded a superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ of 0.59 K which is comparable with a previous theoretical value of 0.33 K. Upon compression (at pressure of 10 GPa) ${\lambda}$ and $T_c$ are increased to be 0.366 and 0.89 K, respectively, showing thus the pressure effect on the superconductivity in $Y_2C$. The spin-polarization calculations showed that the difference in the total energy between the magnetic and non-magnetic $Y_2C$ is weak.

van der Pauw method를 이용한 금속도전율 표준시편 개발 (Development of Conductivity Standards for Metals using the van der Pauw Method)

  • The widely-used measurement methods for conductivity of non-magnetic metals are van der Pauw method, Two Point Probe method and Eddy Current method. Among them a more simpler and easier method is the Eddy Current method and an instrument using the method is a Conductivity Meter which can measure a conductivity by contacting its probe on a sample surface. However, conductivity standards are essentially needed to confirm the meter's performance or to calibrate it. In this study, six kinds of the standards which are made of Cu, Al-1, Al-2, brass, Zn and SUS-316 are developed and conductivity ranges for the standards are 2.27 %IACS ~ 101.6 %IACS with measurement uncertainty of less than 0.3 %.

초음파에 의한 필렛 용접힐부의 표면결함 검출능에 관한 실험적 검증 (Experimental Verification on the Detectability of Surface Flaws at Fillet Weld Hills by Ultrasonic Method)

  • Ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (UNDE) technique is commonly used for detecting inner defects in the materials. Recently, new methods are trying to apply for detecting surface and subsurface flaws using Rayleigh wave or creeping wave. These techniques, however, have following problems. Echo amplitude is remarkably affected by the surface conditions and discrimination of echo pattern is usually difficult because shear wave propagate in the material at the same time. We can apply surface SH-wave(which is horizontally polarized shear wave traveling along near surface layer) technique to detect surface flaws. In this paper, directivity, distance amplitude characteristics and detectability of surface flaws at fillet weld hills of the 5 MHz and 2 MHz surface flaws at fillet weld hills of the 5 MHz and 2 MHz surface Sh-wave are experimentally investigated. As a result of the study, it was found out that these techniques are valuable for the detection of fatigue cracks at fillet weld heels which can not be detected by other ultrasonic techniques such as angle beam technique and which are inaccessible for non-destructive testings e.g. MT(magnetic particle testing) or PT(liquid penetrant testing).

Experimental study of controllable MR-TLCD applied to the mitigation of structure vibration

  • MR-TLCD (Magneto-Rheological Tuned Liquid Column Damper) is a new developed vibration control device, which combines the traditional passive control property with active controllability advantage. Based on traditional TLCD governing equation, this study further considers MR-fluid viscosity in the equation and by transforming the non-linear damping term into an equivalent linear damping, a solution can be obtained. In order to find a countable set of parameters for the design of the MR-TLCD system and also to realize its applicability to structures, a series of experimental test were designed and carried out. The testing programs include the basic material properties of the MR-fluid, the damping ratio of a MR-TLCD and the dynamic responses for a frame structure equipped with the MR-TLCD system subjected to strong ground excitations. In both the analytical and experimental results of this study, it is found that the accurately tuned MR-TLCD system could effectively reduce the dynamic response of a structural system.

Clival lesion incidentally discovered on cone-beam computed tomography: A case report and review of the literature

  • An osteolytic lesion with a small central area of mineralization and sclerotic borders was discovered incidentally in the clivus on the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of a 27-year-old male patient. This benign appearance indicated a primary differential diagnosis of non-aggressive lesions such as fibro-osseous lesions and arrested pneumatization. Further, on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the lesion showed a homogenously low T1 signal intensity with mild internal enhancement after post-gadolinium and a heterogeneous T2 signal intensity. These signal characteristics might be attributed to the fibrous tissues, chondroid matrix, calcific material, or cystic component of the lesion; thus, chondroblastoma and chondromyxoid fibroma were added to the differential diagnosis. Although this report was limited by the lack of final diagnosis and the patient lost to follow-up, the incidental skull base finding would be important for interpreting the entire volume of CBCT by a qualified oral and maxillofacial radiologist.

배관 용접부 표면결함 검출 및 비교 (Detection and Comparison of Surface Defects in Pipe Welds)

  • At present, 24 nuclear power plants are in operation nationwide as the main power source responsible for about 27% of Korea's electricity, and five nuclear power plants are currently under construction. Issues of nuclear safety and reliability have always existed, but after the Fukushima accident, ensuring reliability has become an even more important issue for safety. Compared to other kinds of accidents, the initial response after a nuclear accident is more important than any other accident. Prior to accidents, it is important to be able to predict and judge the accident in advance for the sake of prevention. In this research, non-destructive inspection methods for existing pipe welds include radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle practice, and liquid penetration testing. For this experiment, carbon steel pipes like that of the material used in nuclear pipes were adopted, and specimen welded to the flange (Flange) were manufactured. After testing, the weld specimen were not damaged through the infrared thermography (IRT) experiment. This study attempted to improve the safety of carbon steel pipes through a comparative analysis of finite element analysis.

반도체 기판 교차 파지 방법 (Chucking Method of Substrate Using Alternating Chuck Mechanism)

  • Typically, single-wafer wet etching is done by dispensing chemical onto the front and back side of spin wafer. The wafer is fixed by a number of chuck pins, which obstruct the chemical flow and would result in the incomplete removal of the remaining film, which can become a source of contamination in the next process. In this paper, we introduce a novel design of wafer chuck, in which chuck pins are groupped into two and each group of pins fixes the substrate alternatively. Two groups of chuck pins fix the high-speed spin substrate with non contact method using a magnetic material. The actual process has been executed to observe the effectiveness of this new wafer chuck. It was found that the new wafer chuck performed better than the conventional wafer chuck for removing the remaining film from the bevel and edge side of substrate.
