  • In this paper, we propose a private digital watermarking method based on a wavelet transform to protect digital contents copyrights. We find out the optimal watermark insertion region and the optimal amount of watermark in order to satisfy robustness and imperceptibility against various attacks such as noise, compression, collusion, clipping, scaling to transfer the contents safely. Through this experiment, we could find out the adequate location of watermark insertion and proper amount of watermark, and transfer the watermarked image safely.

  • Resistance spot welding of aluminum alloys is based upon Joule heating of the components by passing a large current in a short duration. Since aluminum alloys have the potential to replace steels fur automobile body assemblies, it is important to study the process robustness of aluminum spot welding process. In order to evaluate the effects of process parameters on the weld quality, major process variables and abnormal process conditions were selected and analyzed. A newly developed two-stage, sliding-level experiment was adopted fur effective parameter design and analysis. Suitable ranges of welding current and button diameters were obtained through the experiment. The effects of the factors and their levels on the variation of acceptable welding current were considered in terms of main effects. From the results, it is concluded that any abnormal process condition decreases the suitable current range in the weld lobe curve. Pareto analysis of variance was also introduced to estimate the significant factors on the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio. Among the six factors studied, fit-up condition is found to be the most significant factor influencing the SM ratio. Using a Pareto diagram, the optimal condition is determined and the SM ratio is significantly improved using the optimal condition.

  • Visual cryptography is a scheme that recovers secret image through human vision by overlapping distributed share images without cryptographic operations. Distribution methods are still being developed for improving quality of shared images keeping size of images invariant and enhancing robustness against resize of images. Since visual cryptography only uses shared images, this fact is exploited to attack. From this fact, a scheme safe for sharing distributed images is needed. In this paper, a new visual cryptographic scheme using cover image is proposed. This scheme reduces the chance of detection against steganalysis and increases security. In addition, this paper shows that the proposed scheme can completely decrypt secret image without creating noise.

  • In this research, a multi-tree coder at 9.6Kbits/sec using a novel scheme for adaptation of the short-term coefficients is developed. The overall delay of the tree coder is maintained at 2.5 msec(16 samples at the 6.4KHz sampling frequency). This coder produces good quality speech over ideal channels, and it is very robust to channel errors up to a bit error rate (BER) of $10^{-3}$. This robustness is achieved by using a parallel adaptation scheme in combination with the use of a smoothed version of the received excitation sequence for adaptation of the short-term prediction coefficients. For the multi-tree coder, reconstructed output speech is evaluated using signal-to-quantization noise ratios (SNR), segmental SNRs, and informal listening tests.

  • This paper presents an SVD(Singular Value Decomposition)-Pseudo Spectrum method for SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) imaging. The purpose of this work is to improve resolution and target separability of SAR images. This paper proposes SVD-Pseudo Spectrum method whose advantages are noise robustness, reduction of sidelobes and high resolution of spectral estimation. SVD-Pseudo Spectrum method uses Hankel Matrix of signal components and SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) method. In this paper, it is demonstrated that the SVD-Pseudo Spectrum method shows better performance than the matched filtering method and the conventional super-resolution based multiple signal classification (MUSIC) method in SAR image processing. The targets to be separated are modeled, and this modeled data is used to demonstrate the performance of algorithms.

  • A new model which contains the dynamics of the motor system and the kinematics of the timing belt system is derived for an inverted pendulum system in FAPA Lab. Generalized standard compensator configuration(SCC) which contains the variable design parameters Kl, K2, .., K5 is proposed so that any desired design specification can be achieved. The robust controller which has robust property against the influence of sensor noise, system parameter variation and model uncertainty is designed minimizing the H$_{\infty}$-norm of transfer function from exogenous input to controlled output. The method of solving the two Riccati equations in state space and determining the controller uses on iteration method where the unique stabilizing solution to two algebraic Riccati equation must be positive definite and the spectral radius of their product less than .gamma.$^{2}$. Some cases are derived by varying the design parameter for simulation on a digital computer and experimenting the H$_{\infty}$- controller on an analog computer. The design parameters of controller which satisfies the desired control specification is selected on the basis of the simulation result and experimenting. The reasonableness and validity of the simulation and the robustness of the controller is established.d.

  • Recent advancements in optics technology enable us to realize fast scans of hands using two-dimensional (2D) image scanners. In this paper, we propose an automatic hand measurement system using 2D image scanners for customized glove production. To develop the automatic hand measurement system, firstly hand scanning devices has been constructed. The devices are designed to block external lights and have user interface to guide hand posture during scanning. After hands are scanned, hand contour is extracted using binary image processing, noise elimination and outline tracing. And then, 19 hand landmarks are automatically detected using an automatic hand landmark detection algorithm based on geometric feature analysis. Then, automatic hand measurement program is executed based on the automatically extracted landmarks and measurement algorithms. The automatic hand measurement algorithms have been developed for 18 hand measurements required for custom-made glove pattern making. The program has been coded using the C++ programming language. We have implemented experiments to demonstrate the validity of the system using 11 subjects (8 males, 3 females) by comparing automatic 2D scan measurements with manual measurements. The result shows that the automatic 2D scan measurements are acceptable in the customized glove making industry. Our evaluation results confirm its effectiveness and robustness.

  • It is a challenging problem of assessing the location and extent of structural damages with vibration measurements. In this paper, an improved Extended Kalman filter (EKF) with Tikhonov regularization is proposed to identify structural damages. The state vector of EKF consists of the initial values of modal coordinates and damage parameters of structural elements, therefore the recursive formulas of EKF are simplified and modal truncation technique can be used to reduce the dimension of the state vector. Then Tikhonov regularization is introduced into EKF to restrain the effect of the measurement noise for improving the solution of ill-posed inverse problems. Numerical simulations of a seven-story shear-beam structure and a simply-supported beam show that the proposed method has good robustness and can identify the single or multiple damages accurately with the unknown initial structural state.

  • Various blind source separation (BSS) and independent component analysis (ICA) algorithms have been developed. However, comparison study for BSS/ICA algorithms has not been extensively carried out yet. The main objective of this paper is to compare various promising BSS/ICA algorithms in terms of several factors such as robustness to sensor noise, computational complexity, the conditioning of the mixing matrix, the number of sensors, and the number of training patterns. We propose several benchmarks which are useful for the evaluation of the algorithm. This comparison study will be useful for real-world applications, especially EEG/MEG analysis and separation of miked speech signals.

  • Recently, the velocity stack domain is having an attention as a very useful domain for various processing in seismic data processing. In order to be used in many applications, the velocity stack should be obtained through an inversion method and the used inversion should have properties like the robustness to noise and the parsimony of velocity stack result. Iteratively Reweighted Least-Squares (IRLS) method is the one of the inversion methods that have such properties. This paper describes the theoretical background, implementation of the method, and examines the characteristics and limits of the IRLS method.
